Posted November 29, 2024Nov 29 Thought I'd share my latest work, (as I'm secretly quite pleased with it :) ) Its based on my newer structure of slightly angling the cab chassis for a more dynamic modern look. Already I have a few versions of the DAF XG. And now, back to my Volvo Favourites I have the very latest Aero which is an evolution of my previous FH Globetrotter: The 5 axle Nooteboom is a bit of over kill for the F89 on the back, but I like to think of this as truck show day! With exception of the number plate, all decals are taken from the Volvo FMX kit #42175 so Its pretty much all Lego! (I have sprayed wheels with satin chrome though) Here you can see the more complex angles in the cab - I can confirm, all is solid and nothing is stressed; I've had the F89 model for a few years now (and indeed sell instruction on rebrickable for it) But the scales work really well and show how much bigger trucks have become over the years; Thanks for taking the time to look! Hope you like? Mike aka MCD_TECHNIC
November 30, 2024Nov 30 Wow, beautiful models, amazing bodywork, good mix of system and technic! This is why we have high expectations for official modes, because we know it is possible.. :D
November 30, 2024Nov 30 Great work! You have eyes for details, but there is one detail that caught my eye. The F89 has steering wheel on the right side. F89 was never produced with right side steering. The reason is that the engine has turbo on the top of the engine. That made the engine so tall that it wouldn't fit under the cab. Volvo solved the problem by tilting the engine. It was tilted to the right side. So on the right side there wasn't room enough for the steering, pedals, gear stick and so on. That is why F89 has always steering on the left hand side. Both models look extremely realistic and the white bird looks like a little Michelin-man from a distance. Thanks - That's always my aim - I do tend to obsess for ages on the detail - drives me mad sometime! Its all the same as a real truck, technical chassis, sculpted bodywork. On 11/30/2024 at 1:42 PM, L-rides said: Great work! You have eyes for details, but there is one detail that caught my eye. However, you've confused me on the LHD, RHD bit... loads of RHD in the UK: Plenty more if you search google? And The ones ive seen at Truckfest have been RHD.... are you sure its not a European thing?
December 6, 2024Dec 6 It seems there are some afterwards modified F89's. So you are right. But they were not produced that way. I found the picture of that blue/red one from flickr. It has some interesting comments about the subject. Link to the flickr. ( When I tried to put up the link, I accidentally put here two pictures and don't know how to remove them.)
