When storing/ displaying minifigs, is it best to have them not hold accessories? I read somewhere that the minifig hands can break in the long term when holding weapons/ accessories.

I have a huge collection of minifigs from various themes and will be displaying them in IKEA Sannahed frames (inserts have the inverted bricks glued to them as pedestals for the minifigs). Many of my Star Wars minifigs came with weapons. I really like the idea that each minifig holds the weapons/ accessories it came in the set with, but will set those aside if it would be lead to the hands cracking over time.

By the way, I store my minifigs in my basement where it is cool all year round.

Any suggestions for cataloging the figs?

I tend to store mine not holding weapons, as they take up less room that way. When I have left something in hand, I've never had one break. The hands are made from a different plastic formulation that makes them less prone to cracking.

But even if they do crack, they are cheap and simple to replace aside from a few rare colours.
