This is my second attempt to build a Lego redcoat ship. My first attempt was a complete, total and utter disgrace.

Lego Pirates ship MOC - HMS Flycatcher

Just like my previous ship, this one is loosely based on the 1770 British sloop-of-war HMS Kingsfisher. I decided to call her HMS Flycatcher - the flycatcher is a bird, just like the kingfisher, and it was the name of a cute Royal navy carrier-based biplane fighter.

As a bonus - here's a picture of the ship without 'rigging' (it's only basic on the finished model) and sails:

Thanks for watching! I shall gladly answer your questions in the comment section.

P. S. : please forgive me for the ugly background

Great ship! :pir-love: It is very detailed. I especially like the cannons, flag, and how you used technic axles to put the sales on. Over all a very nice build!

Edit. Is the rope made by Lego?

Thanks for the appreciation! No, it's just 1 mm twine rope

Your welcome! I though it looked like twine, but I didn't know if Lego ever made any. :classic:

What a wonderful sailing ship ... imposing and elegant! :wub_drool::wub_drool:

Wonderful colors and details ...the only flaw is the absence of cats for the disinfestation of mice!

Thank you so much! I've got a small white kitten, but I'm not sure if it can deal with the mice...

You're being WAY too hard on yourself with your first effort.  We all started somewhere, my first ship (when I wasn't a child) never even made it past LDD.

You've got a lot of great ideas in this one.  The stove is great, the expansive hold (plus enough removable deck to actually be able to access it) is awesome.  You've got some great detail on the bow as well.  Your bell and your wheel also look terrific.

I would make three suggestions:
1- more contrast on the colors.  Maybe make the upper hull a different color than the deck?  I'd consider planking the whole deck, like you've started to do in front of the bed in the captain's quarters.

2- lids on all of the gun ports, preferably a color different from the stripe.  Maybe red, because it's redcoat, but honestly whatever looks best to you.  Just because it's redcoat doesn't mean the port lids have to be red too (I've got two bluecoat ships with red or green lids, with a yellow and an orange planned, depending on if my next child is a boy or girl).

3- more furniture/detail on the captain's cabin.  A lot of people have done chequerboard patterns on their floors, that usually look pretty great, isn't that hard to do, and makes the cabins look pretty good.

Thanks for the kind words! I needed it.

Sadly, I don't think I can cange the colour of the deck or upper hull, or add more lids on the gun ports, at least, right now - I don't have enough parts. My primary inspiration were Marshall's paintings, which "allowed" me such compromises.

I think I shall try to add more furniture to the captain's cabin though. These were great suggestions, thank you @Cousarmy0001!

A very beautiful and well-built sloop! :pir-huzzah2: The quarterdeck, main deck and forecastle are well-divided in size. The galley is well-equipped, I like that the stovepipe runs through the ship's decks. The captain's cabin is large and offers enough space for different furniture. You have built a lot of details.

Thanks! Appreciated. Since the source material was much larger than my build, my ship's details are imaginary, yet I am glad you liked them!

That's a great improvement in such a short space of time too. I like how you've retained the design style, whilst thoroughly upgrading the build throughout. The amount of interior space you've achieved, within a realistic hull is commendable, and there's plenty of room for more detail in there.

Thank you so much, @Franco Clarke! To be honest, my first attempt failed mostly due to my then unwillingness of using white hull parts (a stupid mistake) and lack of tan pieces (for this second version, most parts were ordered on BrickLink). Sadly, I have little imagination, but I still could add more interior details. Thanks for the suggestion!

By the way, I forgot to mention that it was Your magnificent galleon that inspired me to rework my sails completely.

Came from the figbarf post, I love your ship! I love that it looks great but is also clearly a MOC with your own creative designs. Great interior too! I made my very first self designed ship recently and it is nowhere near as good as this. Also your first moc isn't half bad either. We all start somewhere.

PS. very nostalgic wallpaper behind the ship, my grandparents have the same one)))

Well first of all I think youre being too critical of  yourself. Your first attempt isnt an utter disgrace as you put it, you shoudlve seen my first ships how bad they were.
Its a great looking ship whit parts you got at the time! That aside, this one is a great improvement and upgrade to it! Youve come a long way in terms of shipbuilding techniques!
