What do you suggest?

Some memes and joking around is ok as long as they're somewhat on track. The seperate Aslume is still open.

Ultimately one of my key reasons for moderating is so that it feels like a welcoming enough place for people who want to discuss DC LEGO to come in and discuss DC LEGO without finding a hodgepodge of random in-jokes and completely unassociated discussion. I don't want it be unfun, and yeah it sucks that there isn't that much actual DC LEGO to discuss for 2025, but that's just how it is.

Also I take the no Superman 2025 retail sets to mean... Corenswet SDCC figure confirmed.

It's difficult to come up with anything that will work other than being incredibly strict on this one. The whole thing came about because of how dire the theme became, and now our last flicker of Kryptonian hope has blown out. I appreciate the difficulty in balancing long-term users who have fully lost the plot with trying to encourage regular, non-nuts users and newbies.

If they play the SDCC card again I'll be greatly disenfranchised.

I really don’t think the future of this theme is as doom and gloom as everyone is making it out to be. Sure, we didn’t get Superman movie sets, but:

- we’re getting our first non-Batman DC set since 2020

- we’re getting our first Superman minifigure since 2020 and our first Lex Luthor minifigure since 2018

- Arkham Asylum sounds like it might be our first DC D2C in decades that’s a playset and not just a giant display piece like the oversized Batvehicles, Bat-box, BtAS diorama.

- first Arkham Asylum since 2017 and first proper Batcave since 2019

- potentially our first comic styled Batman sets (not counting 4+) since 2020

- potentially the reintroduction of iconic Batman villains and maybe even the introduction of villains we haven’t gotten before

Sure, it’s not the revival we were hoping for (let’s be fair, we should have expected the DC revival to start with a revival of Lego Batman, which is what we seem to be getting). And if the DCU does well, I think we can look forward to Lego branching out beyond Batman in the coming years.

Even though I am extremely disappointed we're not getting any Superman sets (and I mean extremely disappointing—this was my most hyped possible set of the year)... I'm still excited for the Batcave and the Arkham Asylum—but they have to look well.

Honestly, my excitement highes on one thing—the minifigure selection. Firts of all, if it's not based on the comicbooks, it's an instant pass for me. Second of all, we need the Bat-Family again.

I don't care about solo Batman, that's just boring (especially in LEGO sets)—I want Alfred, Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, Red Hood and more. If those sets don't provide any of that, then I don't care about them.

I'd also like more funky villains—right now it's just Joker, with an occasional Harley Quinn or a Mr. Freeze. Give me Bane, Clayface, Mad Hatter, Poison Ivy, Riddler, Scarecrow, Ra's al Ghul... anyone LEGO!

I'm still debating with myself whether this is even more disappointing than the way they handled Indy. At least with DoD, there wasn't a press statement that blatantly lied to our faces

The January wave filled me with so much hope that the theme might FINALLY move away from purely being Batman-based, but nope... And I seriously doubt the Batcave or Arkham will introduce any new characters. At this point, any villain other than Jonkler, Harley, or Freeze would border on a miracle. Or having Robin in a set.

And I highly doubt they'd release DCU sets later on. Sure, after the DCEU, you could argue it's smarter for them to wait and see how the DCU will perform before committing to it, but still. I just don't see them revisiting the first handful of movies later on. You have to strike the iron while it's hot! It's sad to see them being this risk-averse with one of the biggest comic book characters ever conceived. What chance do other characters that aren't Batsy stand then?

Posted

But you know the most ridiculous part is that we're not talking about Swamp Thing or The Authority—this is SUPERMAN! The most iconic, popular superhero ever!

This is absolutely beyond my ability to comprehend it... Not even a small set!

They release so much crap during the year which warms the shelves forever, but somehow they won't make a single set for Superman, which wouldn't even be a risk! It will already sell better than at least half their sets just because it's Superman!

I'm at a point where I could literally storm LEGO's headquarters and ask them personally what kind of complete dumb idiot made this decision.

Absolutely ridiculous, I genuinely can't see even a single reason for not making even a smallest set.

Me neither! Unless it‘s WB who effed up somehow, which wouldn‘t surprise me :laugh_hard:

And yeah, there‘s no real reason not to release at least one set. They very easily could’ve eaten that loss had it flopped, and that‘s not a very likely outcome either! Gunn‘s track record alone should‘ve been a good argument, but alas…

We‘re at a point where even MCU movies and Star Wars shows get skipped, so maybe this was inevitable :shrug_confused:

Maybe Superman will receive a line of sets in the second half of 2025? Perhaps we just don't know about it yet...

Unfortunately the leaks are for the rest of the year. Goat's explicitly saying no superman stuff is left.

I wish I had enough optimism to hope for a new hairpiece on a character we haven't had since the TLBM days instead of my current hope- Robin appears in the set- seeming far fetched.

I really think you're overestimating how closely DC suits are looking at the tie-in products. I guarantee you the thought process was "tell lego to make a superman set"

I'm pretty much in the same boat as both of you. I'm glad to hear we are getting a somewhat affordable Batcave on shelves again and a D2C Arkham, but they have to look well and I hope the figure selections are good.

I hope we'll know soon if the Batcave and Arkham will be based on Comics, BTAS, or whatever else. I'm upset that Gunn Superman isn't getting any sets, but at least we got a Superman Mech, which is a low bar, but it is something.

Maybe for the DCU, we'll get comic based tie ins for the time being, hence my hope for a Green Lantern mech in 2026 to coincide the release of HBO's Lanterns. I feel like the first DCU movie that will get official sets will obviously be Brave and the Bold, whenever that comes out.

The mech could’ve easily been a film set instead, just with different prints on the Superman and Lex minifigures and a different build. Curious as to why Lego chose not to explicitly tie in to the film.

Don't hurt yourself reaching too far for that positive spin. Unless there's been a massive turnaround, one only has to look at the most recent big money DC sets and some terrible figures for the purchase price in order to get an idea of what to expect from the future sets. Look at the timespan for momentous sets, and it's hard to show anything other than indifference to the theme right now. New characters? I'm leaving my expectations on the floor and anticipating one new character who comes in a prison jumpsuit so we don't get the benefit of a villain costume. This way I can get excited when it exceeds my low expectations.

Two Face had a new hairpiece, which feels like the kind of piece that could show up again somewhere, but with it only being half there's not a lot of opportunity for it

(Also I'm aware he has appeared once post TLBM)

Evil prediction, just to make myself public enemy #1; Arkham is Dark Knight Trilogy based

Figures are repeated Batman, Joker, Two Face and Scarecrow and new Commissioner Gordon, Ra's Al Ghul (reusing Doctor Strange's head) and Rachel Dawes (reusing Vicki Vale/Jyn Erso's head, and Pepper Potts' torso. Also includes the Hermione/Pepper Potts head to offer a Maggie Gyllenhaal recasting play feature)

It's also a Shadow Box, but this one is dark grey :devil_laugh:

I agree with the last part, especially considering the fact that it was a Lego-specific hairpiece - TLBM Two-Face's damaged side looked like molten plastic, which made sense since he was a Lego minifigure in a world of Lego

I doubt Arkham is going to be like the recent Shadowbox and Gotham City display for two reasons: 1. The only Batman films in which Arkham has any presence are Batman Forever and Batman and Robin and there’s a snowballs chance in hell of them getting sets 2. We already know it’s going to have over 12 minifigures, which means it’s not just going to be some artsy thing.

And then there’s the Batcave which, and maybe I’m being overtly hopeful here, seems to be our first large scale playset that isn’t just some Batmobile on a long time.

I could be wrong, I don’t think I am, but it seems like we’re actually getting Batman playsets again which means they’re trying to actually draw in kids and not just adults looking to collect display pieces. That’s a step in the right direction.

Arkham is barely even a thing in the Nolan movies. Plus, the set will have 12 minifigures. You could come up with seven and you had to shove in two characters who had nothing to do with Arkham to get there.

Kinda? But it also just further cements the DC theme as Batman and friends*, which is a step in the wrong direction

Actually, I think not having any of non-Batman related sets or minifigures in 5 years is probably the worst state this theme has been in.  With the relaunch DC's cinematic universe with a theatrical film of its most iconic superhero, I think a lot of us were hopeful for a small relaunch of this theme - even if just one set with main cast.  It's a huge missed opportunity to not have any LEGO tie-in sets.

“Batman and his friend on rare occasions in sets that are actually interesting” is a huge step up from “Batman and his Batmobile in a giant $400 black box.”

We‘ll see how interesting those two sets actually are  With 12 rumoured minifigs Arkham kinda has to have some new prints at least, but that doesn‘t guarantee any new characters (or long-awaited updates). And the Batcave could also mostly be a rehash. Call me a downer, but the last few years don‘t exactly spark confidence

Completely agree, even think Ivy's animated hair could work well for Jessica Rabbit.  Am I crazy for thinking that? lol.

Also with news of Marvel getting a Spiderman based CMF series, hope DC eventually gets a a 2nd CMF Series. As unlikely as that is, lol.

More like next to impossible  Unless you want a CMF that consists of 6 Batman variants (all boring), 3 Jonklers, 2 Harleys, and 1 Riddler, just to add some excitement :laugh_hard:

Ok ok, I‘m just jonkling. No Riddler.

It’s gonna be hard to be less interesting than a giant black box with a Batman logo cut out of it.

If DC gets a comic based CMF in 2026, I will eat every minifigure. That’s how confident I am it won’t happen.

One copy each, or an entire box of 36? :laugh_hard: As someone familiar with minifig-eating-related bets, I gotta know

One copy each, a full box. Either way, it’s still zero.
