There's no way in hell the dog dies, it's more likely Superman does ^^^ Gunn has a formula that you can honestly stretch all the way back to scooby-doo if you want to get a bit loose with it. (Guardians/TSS/Peacemaker/Creature Commandos are a lot more similar to eachother though). Superman appears to be breaking the mold at least a little- while we still have the cutesy animal sidekick and I'd put money down on superman having at least somewhat of an adversial relationship with his biological father, the film doesn't appear to be starring a group of morally ambiguous outlaws- I doubt he'd turn around and kill off Krypto. 1 hour ago, RedHoodPug said: DC starts laying down what appears to be a royal flush Honestly for this specifically, I get why lego's waiting to see how it turns out. Superhero movies have been stumbling a lot recently, and it makes sense to me that they'd want to make sure it really IS a royal flush before tying in. Doesn't mean they couldn't give us some comic-based superman stuff, though. At the very least, through leaguers into bat-vehicle sets. Quote

calebcold3 Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 Watching the Superman trailer just makes me excited (for the movie) and upset about the fact that we aren't getting a SINGLE SET for this movie. Like, it would've been the easiest $30-$40 set ever. LEGO could just Reuse Superman's head from the mech on a new torso, put the overused Lex head on a random Business suit already in production, and add one more figure and BOOM you got a set (even if the set had a meh build, I would've still bought it). Well.. maybe if Superman does well, we'll get Superman 2 and get sets for that movie. Quote

Max_Lego Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 Guys, I owe you all an apology. Watching the Superman trailer and reading the feedback made me realise the mind-blowing power of aesthetics! Now I understand why Reeves' The Batman was so successful! And how wrong it was to discuss Star Wars in the now-Aslume thread. I was so utterly wrong! ... Because who cares about ideas if the picture looks awesome? I absolutely don't intend to start any arguments, I just want to admit how wrong I was. The Batman had a comic-accurate Gotham (no), comic-accurate Catwoman (no!) - and became so successful! This new Superman is absolutely comic-accurate (hell no!) - I am pretty sure that not only it is going to be successful, but it also will unironically save DC! It's all that matters. Nobody cares about the portrayal of characters, the idea of the movie - a beautiful picture and some nostalgia will do the job. Making money is the 1st priority after all. Again, I mean no offence. I just agree to disagree. I also agree that no Lego sets based on this movie is wrong. TLG wasted a great potential! Again, mods are welcome to ban me if they feel it's the right thing to do Quote

It seems accurate enough to the source material, at least, from what I can tell. It’s a 2 minute teaser with like three lines of dialogue, which really isn’t enough to judge whether or not it’s an accurate depiction of Superman. Always glad to see hatred for The Batman. Maybe now people accept it's not comic accurate but it wasn't like that for ages any changes outside of like Ultron and The Mandarin people would shrug their shoulders and say it's for the better or bend over backwards to argue that Spider-Man's dynamic with Ironman is actually an accurate adaptation of his dynamic with Johnny Storm. I'm too old to care about comic accuracy, if it's a good movie it's a good movie, I want accuracy I'll read the comics, in all likelihood I won't watch most of these films. Seems weird to say like this film is all about making money and nostalgia then claim the MCU is any different. To be a cynic that's all the concept of a cinematic universe is, it's just trying to monopolise an audiences wallet. The average person sees about 3 films a year, the goal is to make them all films from their universe by making incomplete films that require other movies to work and often even with those other movies skim over basic character work. It's the cinematic version of games as a service. Quote

No, though it seems that the movie will be focused on how Superman fits into the modern world and the current superhero-saturated media landscape. Based on set photos and the trailer, we see Superman at odds with both the corporate-sponsored JSA (Mr. Terrific, Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner) and the government-sponsored (and Flagg Sr.-lead) Authority (Ultraman(?), the Engineer); I suspect that the JSA will be quippy showoffs (MCU stand-in) while the Authority are cynical, dark-and-gritty, and overly-serious (Snyderverse stand-in). Superman will engage with both groups, then carve out his own space within the superhero landscape - Both for himself in the context of the film universe, and the DCU as a franchise. 29 minutes ago, Max_Lego said: Corenswet looks... ordinary, like an everyman. Considering how he looks as Clark Kent, I think that this is definitely the idea - The movie seems to be leaning more into the Human side of Superman (especially with the inclusion of Krypto!), rather than the aloof godlike portrayal from the Snyderverse. In all fairness, this is just the first trailer and the film is still seven months out. At this point, the marketing is just straight up vibes (ie nostalgia bait) versus actual details about the film. As we get more marketing material and the films gets closer to release, most of the questions you’ve got will probably be answered. Also, on a somewhat related note, I’m really disappointed we’re not getting anything for Creature Commandos. Sure, I understand it’s R-rated, but I would love to get comic based versions of some of these characters (especially Circe). Quote

That's what actual trailers are for—telling you what the movie is about. Teaser trailers are just snippets of the movie, usually a cool montage or a longer sequence. They're supposed to show what the aesthetic and the climate is about, without revealing any story details. Also what your asking for is completely irrelevant at this point. Just wait and see the movie! Why would a trailer for a Superman movie tell you why a tertiary supporting character is wearing a uniform from a non-appearing character? 24 minutes ago, psqidexslizer said: Also, on a somewhat related note, I’m really disappointed we’re not getting anything for Creature Commandos. But, yes, it's about making MONEY! Every movie is about making money. How is Oppenheimer different from it? Killers of the Flower Moon? Longlegs? Literally anything? Every movie's goal is to ultimately make money. That's why studios finance them. You might say, "Okay, but it depends what the director's (or writer's, or anyone's from the cast & crew) goal is." But it doesn't—ultimately, they also want it to make money, because that means the studio will finance another movie, and all they want to do is keep making movies. Of course, you can approach it from various angles—some projects allow the creator's to take the helm, letting them deliver the best version of the product they can. Some, on the other hand, try to nip their creativity in the bud, focusing on cold calculations on how to make the movie. But the point is, all movies are still, ultimately, made for money. And I don't really see what you're trying to say about Superman. Edited December 20, 2024 by THELEGOBATMAN Quote

It teases what is to come without giving much away. It showed some things that we knew were coming and some things we didn't, and those things looked pretty in the process. I don't want to know the plot before going to see a new film, I want to experience it all first hand. It's why I'm struggling with Creature Commandos being released the way it has and managing spoiler evasion. It's Superman so the story is going to have a good Vs evil element, action, probably a romantic element and some appearances from other DC characters. It's James Gunn so it's going to have action, humour, horror and heart, and it's going to look beautiful as well as be given a clever and appropriate soundtrack. You don't need to make any conclusions at this stage unless you micromanage your life to the nth degree. You appear to be looking for the synopsis not the teaser trailer. Quote
