It’s an awful movie with terrible acting and borderline schizophrenic writing that can’t decide who the characters are or even what the plot is supposed to be. The last third of the runtime is spent hammering its convoluted message into the audience’s skulls with all the subtely of a jackhammer in what is essentially an entirely new (and just as awful) movie. And I could forgive most of that if it weren’t so damn boring. I can’t think of a single decision this film made that wasn’t just poorly copying some better film. I really look forward to the day when everyone takes off their “new thing” blinders and finally turns on this waste of three hours.

I gotta be honest with you, I agree with most of this, but if they'd gone all-in and made the other mayoral candidate corrupt too, I would have liked that twist, really pitting Batman against the world. As-is, it feels weird that Riddler manages to get just about everybody by himself, but then decides to have his very subtle message 4chan private army attempt to assassinate the one politician in Gotham who isn't corrupt.

Superman can’t get a single set based off of his upcoming movie. But One-Piece of all things somehow is able to get 5 different sets.

To be fair, anime is massively popular, and from what I've heard One Piece is one of the more popular animes. DC is not doing very well right now. I can understand why they don't want to risk it on a movie that may or may not suceed.

The big thing though? Apparently it's based on Schumacher's Batman movies—one leaker has posted the above information with the Batman & Robin Batcave in the background, and another is saying that this image is very important to this particular set.

It's days like today I'm glad one of our emoticons is :ugh:. Not only are all star wars sets clone troopers, but the only system batman set this summer is... schumacher. The end times are truly upon us.

What are the chances Lego pulls a Wednesday, Spider-Verse, and One Piece and gives us a Superman wave down the line?

If the movie does avengers numbers, maybe.

The trailer looks fine. It doesn't seem to be actively trying to "modernize" or "deconstruct' superman, so I begrudgingly do have to give it some points even though I don't like how Gunn lied to Henry Cavill. I do think it's possible it could do avengers numbers if it ends up being a Top Gun Maverick style Return of the Theatres film with awe-inspiring staying power at the box office.

I don't need a wave of sets. Just give me a modular Daily Planet sometime in 2026 or 2027 and I'll be happy.

Just when I thought I was out. They pull me back in (the Aslume)

Schumacher news kinda jarring ngl. Is it that hard to get a comic based set nowadays?!

That's, uh... literally the point. That's what his whole thing is about.

He never wanted justice—he was just a petty, delusional man, taking out his trauma on innocent people.

Just imagine. All would be forgiven in an instant.

Alas! that's never happening though.

Maybe the whole Schumacher rumour is fake? I don't think TLG would step into THAT territory...

The Riddler is smart. That's his entire point. He is supposed to be a smart guy who envies Batman and wants to humiliate him.

In the movie, he's like: "YoU cOmPlEtE Me", which is lore-breaking. His plan is dumb and makes literally zero sense. You are right. Instead of the selfish genius the Riddler is, we got a traumatized and vengeful nobody, whose stupid plan successfully worked, and yet he screams desperately in his cell as if he failed. HIS STUPID PLAN WORKED! Batman had literally no right to feel himself a hero - he didn't prevent the tragedy from happening, as he didn't prevent anything bad from happening in this movie

They weren't unwilling. They already released him in the 60s Batcave.

I know that, but they've been unwilling to touch Robin for years, including in two sets where Burt Ward's absence made the set feel empty. If they're unwilling to do him in sets that really need him how likely is it that they're gonna touch not just the single most maligned version of the character but probably the most maligned part of those movies

Welp, I would definitely have preferred a comic based cave with some new characters, but I guess this way there’s a chance I can get a Jim Carrey Riddler.

This probably isn’t a good sign for Arkham either. That probably won’t be comic based either (probably BtAS based. I didn’t think a Schumacher based set was possible, but there’s a snowballs chance in hell of two of them, with one costing $400). And I expect since there won’t be any reuses from the Batcave, 10+ figures means 10 figures.

edit: who leaked the Batcave rumor? I can’t find it in any of the usual places?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, THE WORST BATMAN MOVIES EVER ARE SCHUMACHERS, I NEED MORE NOLAN SETS, IF THE BATCAVE IS SCHUMACHER THEN I'LL EAT A BUILDABLE CHARACTER

Did I hear someone talk about eating LEGO parts??? :excited: Challenge accepted! What buildable character shall it be? It could be anything between a porg and the buildable Chewbacca  Maybe Clayface from TLBM as a compromise?

Personally, I‘d be pretty excited about sets based on the Schumacher films! There are quite a few actors who could have their first minifigs this way!

Eat Chewbacca. You can give that Clayface to me.

That's what I'm really afraid of now. The only way I could be interested in buying the Arkham is only if it's a colorful, comicbook-based set.

If it's focused on The Animated Series, or worse yet, any of the movies, my interest will deflate immediately.

Buildable Chewbacca looks like what happens the next day after you eat.

I vote for Clayface for obvious reasons.

I’d be fine getting BtAS styled figures to add to the ones we already got. But I was really hoping we were finally back to getting comic styled sets. 😔

I wonder if they're doing the Schumacher sets solely so they can reuse the Alfred figure from the shadow box

I had the exact same thought :head_back:

I think what annoys me the most about Lego's approach to the theme is the lack of consistency. Fair enough if they think basing sets on non-comic media is the way to go, but don't just scratch the surface of BTAS one year and then immediately leap to Schumacher the next?!   And on top of that do yet ANOTHER minifig scale tumbler for no reason for a worse price than before!

In the same vein, they're not even going to cover a lot of what the Schumacher films have to offer either! Arguably the most iconic part of the Batcave in those films is the big turntable with the batmobile and yet there's no batmobile to be paired with that cave :wall:

All this is to say, I wish Lego made up their mind about what media they want to cover with this theme, because the hodgepodge collection they're building of Batmen/mobiles/caves/rogues is getting rather tiring

Right? Stick to one for at the very least two years and we'll at least get something. Right now it's a worst of all worlds scenario that makes Robin a pipedream character somehow!

What‘d be wrong with it being a TAS set? The minifig potential is pretty much the same as if it were a comic-based set :shrug_oh_well: Also, what‘d be more „colourful“ about a comic-based version? The 2013 one was pretty grey too

Arkham isn’t going to be colorful regardless. It’s a giant gray building that Lego sometimes decides to make brown.

Except most of the people he targeted weren't innocent. That's still evil- you can't go around assassinating and committing terrorist attacks because people are corrupt- but it's weird that the final stage of his plan "kill the corrupt people" is "flood the entire city and murder a mayoral candidate where I have no evidence of them being corrupt". The 4chan private army is also weird, and while @psqidexslizer says, has all the subtlety of a jackhammer, is an absurd escalation, much like the decision to just flood the city. It's driving stakes and giving batman people to punch but it doesn't really fit with Riddler's motivation or his actions until that point. The first two acts of the movie are really solid, but the third act is so weirdly disconnected with all this stuff. It feels like the writers were worried people would identify with Riddler, and so because god forbid we have depth in a villain and understand that someone can do terrible things and be objectively in the wrong despite having positive end goals, they decided to just turn him into a mustache-twirler at the end, give him joker-like dialogue with batman, and then go "oh joker's actually here too, because god forbid he or Harley be excluded from even the smallest batman project"

YES EXACTLY!

Why is he so upset? Batman stopped the one politician (who again wasn't even corrupt)'s death. This happened before- Bruce Wayne wasn't killed- and riddler pretty much just shrugs it off. Riddler's wider plan works.

If our first robin in half a decade is Schumacher Robin I will lose my mind.

Also true, Arkham arguably SHOULDN'T be colorful.

Wrong choice of words, perhaps. TAS minifigures would be just as colorful, but I'm not really interested in them. I want something fresh and not movie / series-based, if that makes sense.

Honestly, I’d rewatch both Schumacher movies before BVS or Suicide Squad. The complaints on here about Reeves’ take on the Riddler are exactly how I feel about Lex Luthor and the Joker.

Jesse Eisenberg recently admitted BVS hurt his career for a long while, and I can see why. The actors in those movies did the best with what they had to work with, but the writing and direction let them all down.

So I’m more than down for some Schumacher Lego kits.

That's another funny point to mention, they were willing to do a Schumacher playset before doing a UCS Batfleck Batmobile. Those sets must have tanked so hard, I wouldn't be surprised if there's an ET game style burial ground of Flying Fox sets somewhere in Denmark

I feel the opposite in this instance. Comic Batman sets had dominated the theme for so long that by the time 2019 rolled around they were starting to become stale and played out. There's only so many times I can keep getting the same thing over and over. Its why I've grown so tired of the Marvel theme recycling the same MCU sets.

Transitioning over to other Batman media has been the one thing that's kept the theme feeling fresh to me. BTAS and Schumacher sets can get me excited for new versions of Robin, Riddler, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, Mr Freeze and Batgirl whereas the comics would leave me feeling "I already own these. Do I really need another?"

The issue is we don't get half of those characters, we get Batman, Joker, Catwoman and then if we're lucky Mr Freeze, Two-face, Penguin, or Harley. Constantly switching the Batman media getting sets means all the figure budget goes into a million versions of the same characters whereas when they were able to reuse figures we'd be able to get fresh characters thrown in. Even at the end, in the weakest year for comic sets we got Bronze Tiger, Batwoman and Omac. If we get a Robin next year it'll be a cause for celebration now, let alone any hope of villains new or old like Mad Hatter, Manbat, Hush, Deathstroke, Deadshot or so on. Hell we can't even get any of the Batfamily bar the occasional Alfred or Batgirl.

Apparently. The only sets that aren't based on specific movies or shows appear to be the 4+ ones.

7 hours ago, Renny The Spaceman said:

With a play feature so he can do the cool Kung Fu laundry bit

Goes without saying that this occupies the majority of the engineering of the batcave.

Also, didn't some people say the 4+ freeze figure resembled Schumacher Freeze? I think it turned out to look more like a Hot Wheels design (Great job to those figure designers by the way, assumably google searching "mr freze cool" and stumbling on that random design), but if it resembled it closely enough for people to think it was him, I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up in the batcave.

My thoughts for the Batcave fig count, actually:

Batman (new torso with the nipples), Batgirl (new torso, re-using head from the 4+ set), Alfred (from the Shadow Box), Mr. Freeze (from the 4+ set), Two-Face (re-used head from the TDK set, new torso).
