Soooo.

5 sets in total next year.

That’s got to be a new low.

It could ALWAYS be worse! We had five 'sets' in 2011, all SDCC / NYCC figures with two being duplicates of Batman and Green Lantern. At least the theme is still breathing....

In 2022, depending on what region you lived in, the only released sets were the 4+ Batcycle vs Harley and the Jim Lee art set. (Otherwise it does win with 6, as there's the 3 system batman sets and the technic batmobile)

I don't think that counts, it wasn't really a year of the theme so much as an announcement that the super heroes theme was coming.

As much as I liked The Batman and the sets based on it, 2022 will be hard to beat in terms of being the absolute lowest point of the theme :snicker:

Between the Batcave and Arkham, we still have a decent chance for something interesting next year, at least enough to beat 2022-24! Personally, I‘d argue the Supes mech alone puts 2025 ahead of the last few years, but I see why some would disagree.

Lol The Batman Pt II delayed to 2027. Doubt the movie comes out at this point. Would be so funny if the last thing of this universe we see is the Penguin making someone dress up like his mother.

James Gunn probably wants Battinson to be the DCU Batman, he said he thought about it, Brave and the Bold was originally 2027 so, it's ridiculous at this point, I was excited for it, 2026 is long away, but now 2027, WTF, def something going on behind the scenes

Yeah there's something wonky happening but good luck to him if he's trying to figure out how to make those two universes work.

It's so weird how people don't understand that Gunn doesn't want to rush movies into production. If the script is not ready, then it's not getting made—Matt is still working on it, hence the delay.

And it will absolutely not get incorporated into the DCU. The plan hinges on an older Batman who's already had at least two Robins, and is now with a young son. That absolutely does not fit Battinson.

I get that, but this happening at the exact same time that Andy says he's gonna do a different film first due to delays does make it seem like there might be a link or at the very least Mr Flash has been quietly booted from the film.

I thing regardless of what happens there has been a change in whatever plans there were.

Also I doubt the DCU "plans" hinge on any movie but Superman, otherwise Gunn wouldn't take the approach of greenlighting whatever happens to come together first, he'd try nail down on getting specific films made instead of letting creatives lead projects based on Clayface and Sgt Rock which weren't even in the initial line-up. From the way things are shaping I think the plan for the DCU is just making standalone movies that happen to share characters and locations which is the best way to go.

But who knows, maybe the reason both films got delayed at the same time is WB wants The Batman 2 out before the other Batman is introduced

Plans change, I don't trust Gunn, he lies a lot, We probably would have gotten The Batman 2 earlier if it wasn't for him, ever since he came in, things became weird

Bruh, it's better than all of Phase 4 Marvel

2nd best Batman movie

Can't believe films like Clayface get more priority than Batman

Would have loved to get The Batman 2, it's gonna be canceled or reworked into the DCU

3rd time it's been delayed

5 years after the first one, that's bad for hype and box office

Honestly at this stage just bring Affleck and Henry back

Gunn is gonna make everything Marvel styled and focus on obscure characters besides Superman, he just makes GOTG over and over again, team of misfits

Script was nearly finished, I know damn well he's pressuring Reeves to add Battinson to DCU, Arkham series was turned into a DCU series and then it never happened, was originally Reeves verse, lot's of rumors about Gunn wanting The Batman in DCU, he's lied a lot saying he is not going to do it and then on a podcast he says he's thought about it, which one is it

If it does get canceled then at least it's a movie that can be a once off story

Only thing that would make me happy if it got canceled would be to make Ben's movie

At least I get to see Daredevil and Punisher back again in March :)

I guess there really was, Something in the wayyyyy

Shame about the Batman Part II.

Though it shows that Gunn and Reeves are prioritising quality.

At least I have Lanterns to look forward to in 2026. I wonder what else will be in 2027? Waller? Booster Gold? Swamp Thing?

They should honestly replace The Authority with JSA. Or better yet, GLC since we’re not getting the cosmic side of the mythology in Lanterns.

Loving your conspiracy theories. Gunn doesn't lie—he's actually more transparent about the process behind his movies than any mainstream filmmaker, let alone the head of a whole studio.

Well, at least we know at least we will be getting 1 set in 2027 for DC (Assuming The Batman Part 2 gets Sets, does anyone know if The Batman sets in 2022 sold well? I feel like they did but I could be wrong)

Apparently Sgt.Rock is going to be filming within a year, probably for a 2027 release. But I doubt he'll get a minifigure.

(Honestly I don't think it's a BAD movie per se, but it's so overrated with everyone hyping it up like it's the best movie ever. The dark knight trounces it, and I'd argue the entire Nolan trilogy beats it.)

While you could try to weasel the words into not being a direct lie, firing Henry Cavill for a "clean slate" and then not only keeping the majority of the actors on Gunn's own projects, but making the actual peacemaker show in-continuity with the DCU DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE DCEU JUSTICE LEAGUE IS IN THE SHOW is pretty deceptive.

The whole "keeping the TSS guys" strikes me not only as a kind of scummy move with the context of firing Cavill, but a bad move overall because you DO need a clean slate. Keeping 1 or two actors wouldn't be terrible if you made it very, very clear that this was a new start. But all this, I like to consider myself fairly knowledgeable about superheroes and movies, but I'm completely lost. Peacemaker is canon, despite the DCEU league showing up in the film? The Suicide Squad part of the universe has the cast all returning, but isn't canon? Is Blue Beetle in the DCU?

It really seems like Gunn is too personally attached to his earlier projects to actually make a clean slate, which isn't a mentality I want leading the new DC universe.

TDKR over The Batman? Honestly I'd probably rate them around the same, decent but has some flaws. Batman Begins and TDK are the best Batman films in my opinion.

Its a shame The Batman Part II is getting pushed back again as I loved the first one.

5 years for a sequel is too much. And God knows if it'll be pushed ever further

TDKR is an Adam West plot in the coat of Nolan. I love it so much, it's hilarious when you think about it for a second but I cannot take it seriously because it's the Batman voice at it's silliest (genuinely LEGO Batman sounds like less of a parody than TDKR Bruce) talking to the one character in any Batman film with a stupider voice than him about how the occupy wall street movement was bad.

TBF he's not just keeping the Suicide Squad guys, as you said there's also Blue Beetle for some reason. I honestly think if he just didn't announce the Blue Beetle thing until that show had actually been greenlit it'd probably be less confusing. TBF I do think a big part of the issue is he had to market 4 random DCEU film's as actually being important to his plans which lead to a bunch of weird impossible to parse statements.

The funny thing about it is if it wasn't for Peacemaker he'd probably be fine, TSS is pretty much written to be in a completely different world than the other DCEU film's and never show's or references any event from the other films. There's a couple shared cast members but they're all written and dressed completely differently to the point most casual watchers don't realise Flag was in the first. Keeping Robbie and Davis makes sense and is something audiences would probably accept like JK Simmons. But he fully shot himself in the foot by including the Justice League in Peacemaker then having Peacemaker characters pop up in Black Adam and Shazam and now everything is a mess.

I doubt any of this will matter as the way they seem to be trying to run this series is by just making good standalones that share actors which is what audiences will be more receptive to then trying to get them invested in another MCU immediately after they've grown sick of the first. The reason that I think stuff like Clayface or Sgt Rock is smarter to do than a new Wonder Woman or Green Lantern film is the former two are genre films helmed by a well known creative who has went to Gunn and asked for it. Those can be sold as movies to people not into capeshit. If you make just a bunch of movies where the hook is "look, it's this hero" it's not gonna do as well as it did back in 2019. Superheroes aren't enough anymore, you have to make actual movies OR just bring back shit people are nostalgic about. Bale ain't gonna come back so in terms of DC movie stars they're kinda boned with the latter so they have to try the former

Yo chill, I meant about canceling projects, firing Cavill and behind the scenes stuff with The Batman 2, DCEU became a shit show when Justice League came out and after it was all over the place with films like Birds of Prey,Shazam 2,Black Adam and Blue Beetle, if the WB execs didn't mess with Snyder then it could have been a successful universe, WB made SS 2016, MCU style with jokes and everything, Ayer made it dark and serious and probably would have been better

Anyway I feel like WB is as bad as Sony, if not worse, they don't know how to handle their characters, if Superman fails then that's it, over, Universal should get the rights to DC

I worry Gunn will make the DCU, goofy and MCU style with jokes every second, Now Superman looks good and it's great to see him be a symbol of hope and smile again but I worry about what they'll do with Batman

I wouldn't have a problem with him if he rebooted everything and nothing was from the old DCEU, Keeping his own things like Peacemaker and keeping the same actress for Waller isn't a full reboot to me

I am chill lol, it's just funny. It's been equally insane behind the scenes and it's silly to act like it started being that way recently, announcing then cancelling projects willy nilly has been a joke about DC for the better part of a decade! They had a film edited by a trailer house for Christ's sake, this has been Sony level from the jump.

I think comparing the Cavill situation to the Peacemaker/Suicide Squad cast is a little disingenuous. One is only "cemented" in the DCEU through a joke cameo at the end of a TV series that had 0 bearing on the plot and will likely be retconned to some extent in season 2, the other brings back an entire supporting Superman cast that I don't think I saw anyone clamoring for more of and the Rock's Black Adam. Yes, Waller and Harcourt were both in that film (I didn't see it so I don't know to what extent) but they weren't used as a bargaining chip by one of the biggest egos in Hollywood to derail both the film and comic universes (Black Adam suddenly being on the Justice League anyone?) and they're side characters at best, not the focal points of the whole universe.

I do feel bad for Cavill, but I couldn't possibly imagine him as the Superman in the trailer that we've just had. I see where you're coming from with the keeping of some actors and the dropping of others, but I do think it also comes down to Gunn is going to keep working with the people he has a good working relationship with vs people who don't fit his vision for the characters and are too weighed down with prior continuity.

This is the fun thing about the new DCU that I'm not seeing a lot of people acknowledge, we're getting comic films rather than just superhero films. Way back GQ put out a video of Gunn talking about his top 5 comic book films and on his list was Old Boy and A History Of Violence, two films I've heard of but had no idea they were comic based. Sgt Rock and Clayface seem to be fitting the same bill of films that general audiences won't know are comic books until they see the DC logo at some point and I kind of love that? Idk, I'm just excited to see some different stuff on screen that can build out the DC brand as something other than "Marvel but EDGYYYYY"

I'd see your sense in thinking Reeves was being pushed out... if it weren't for the fact of him being a producer on stuff like Clayface and Dynamic Duo.

Gunn literally said from the beginning that he and Matt discussed Pattinson being in the DCU, but decided against it. His recent statement of "I thought about it, but decided not to" doesn't contradict that, it's the same narrative that they've taken from the beginning.
