I already have several copies of 79111, and don't see a need to grab another look-alike. Then again, this will be a one-time opportunity, and FOMO is rearing its ugly head. Current BL prices on those are >$200, so the Wild West Train price is certainly competitive in comparison to that. I just can't help feeling I'd be paying for a lot of stuff I don't need or want just to get the train. Quote

R0Sch Posted January 7 Posted January 7 The train didn't just get 6 extra minifigures, but the whole train was changed getting an extra wagon, the tender can now be motorized (sadly the train motor and hub are discontinued now), even the track base is less part intensive now. It did get 432 parts more in the process. Quote

Thus, this is one set I'm not being suckered into buying by FOMO! Also, I hate that boxcar. American boxcars / cattle cars NEVER had cupolas on the roof. So there's another mark against it. I thought it was supposed to be a trunk or something strapped to the roof. There is no such thing that I am aware of. Boxcars are for freight and have sliding doors on the sides. I've never seen a picture of one with a cupola-style appendage on the top. Yes, that's what it looks like to me also, and the battery box/controller for PUp would go in the tender. Quote

I like dark red on the engine, tender and coach, but feel like it gets a little lost with all the browns. I personally would have done away with the windmill in favor of more cacti (3~4) to help break up the brown more. I also think the standard track pieces were a good choice in terms of display as they should result in a sturdier base... Hopefully we get a full 8 segments though b/c the photos look like only 6-7...? Quote

I recently built the Brick Cross Train Station and it included four straight track segments (secured together by a plastic pin), despite the set only using three of them. Quote

Refrigerator cars / Reefers didn't really exist / catch on in the Wild West of the era being presented in the set. (late 1860's through late 1870's by my guess) I know cattle were originally brought to big cities, slaughtered there, and then sold locally by butchers. (Chicago, St. Louis, and Kansas City are ones that come to mind first in that department.) I'm fairly positive insulation techniques then improved by the mid-1880s, and ice was then used to ship cuts of meats (up until the 1950s when mechanical refrigeration was made possible on a massive scale, of course!) LEGO has really been cracking down on leaks, so don't expect anything picture-wise until they are revealed, and even if they did leak things change from pre-production to being on shelves so take everything you see or read with a mountain of salt. Also, some sets never get released even if they leak. (Temple of Doom got cancelled by Disney when we had a picture, for example) Quote
