TECHNIC NON-VEHICLE CONTEST - DISCUSSION TOPIC

Better late than never, but the winter is coming (for most of us), so let's find something to do. This was actually the topic I had in mind for the first contest I hosted. At the time TLG requested if we could to a triple build contest (this was TC2). After that I never pursued this idea....until now...finally...TC28

DESCRIPTION
Build something that is not a vehicle, having some interesting functions or mechanics. Animals are not allowed (we will save that for another contest). You can build machinery and mechanical stuff etc. As long as it's not a vehicle. Furthermore, the model should be a static model, so you can't build models that are able to move itself from location A to location B using an engine.

Vehicle:
A thing used for transporting people or goods, such as a car, plane, truck, etc

NOT ALLOWED

  • Animals
  • Walkers
  • Drones
  • GBC

VOTING CRITERIA
Voting will be 100% public voting, but the votes will be cast on an external website and won't be visible during the voting period. The voting criteria are (in no particular order):

  • Quality of the build.
  • Functionality.
  • Originality.
  • Looks (shape, color scheme, etc).

DEADLINE
Deadline date is February 24th, 2025. Contest will be closed on Tuesday the 25th OR LATER.

Disclaimer: I will close the contest when I see fit and when I have the time to process the results. This can be later than the deadline date. Please don't complain about this not being fair and all.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
The following section describes the contest specific and general rules and regulations. But before that, please take notice of a simple motto regarding the Eurobricks Contests:

CONTESTS ARE FOR FUN!

Of course there's competition, but at the end of the day, LEGO is just a hobby and the main goal for each of us is to have fun!

CONTEST SPECIFIC RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • You have enough time to build. Don't ask for more time.
  • We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that does not follow these rules.
  • These rules can be changed whenever we see fit to ensure that people follow the intent of the contest.
  • Staff members are not eligible for winning prizes.

WHAT DO I NEED TO ENTER?
All participants need to create a discussion topic and create a post in the entry topic.

DISCUSSION TOPIC

  • A discussion topic starting with [TC28].
  • A discussion topic needs to show some actual progress (i.e. pictures of the build in progress) and should not be used to "reserve an idea".

ENTRY POST

The entry post in the entry topic should contain:

  • Entry name
  • Short summary of the functions.
  • One or more images (max 4).  You can have combined pictures (4 in 1) as long as the picture isn't bigger than 1024x1024.

  • Link to the discussion topic

PRIZES

There will be some prizes. More on that later.

The entry needs to be non-licensed/non-branded

I had the idea of possibly building an animal like machine from the Horizon video game universe. Would that be allowed?

If not. I guess it's fine to do an animal not shown int the game but using that particular (art-)style?

To be clear, ships, planes, and spaceships are allowed, but not car ferries even that 'car' don't have any function?

I think most of those would not be allowed, because of the definition of a vehicle being something that transports people or goods. Something like a drone would be allowed though, I believe.

If I use some model from other Themes like Icon or Creator Expert and turn it into a Technic model does that violate any rule?

I did that to the 10327 set here.

Nope they are not allowed. Those are vehicles.

I will remove that line. You’re good.

Is buwizz allowed?

Yes it is. I will add it. Strange this wasn’t in the rules. Thanks

Agreed!

Drone is a difficult one. But I will explicitly state that a drone is not allowed.

Depends on the model. An Ornithopther is obviously not allowed, since it’s a vehicle.

So I can do a Technic version of the Typewriter, is that correct?

Absolutely. That is the kind of model I was aiming for

This is gonna be tough. I already have plans for other MOCs to do, and February is New Lunar Year time, which means there will be delayed shipping.

If you all need more time for this contest, I can close if by the end of February btw.

By the way; I have been thinking a bit about the example of the four legged mech from the videogame or anime. What is your stance on this? I don’t want this contest to turn into a mech contest. That is not what I had in mind? Like to know your thoughts. Somehow a mech feels like a vehicle.

Maybe the definition of a vehicle could be more precise. What about "a machine capable of moving itself"

So mech are not allowed unless it is an animal/human.

It would also make the rules more clear about mobile cranes and roomba robots

Yeah, we need to set clear boundaries. I am thinking along the lines of "not being able to move itself, except animals". But that might be too limiting.

I think people can apply common sense logic to it, if we provide a few good examples. Mech, Drone, Roomba, not being allowed gives me a pretty good idea what we are and arent allowing.

It does give me a bit of a headache though. If you can't make a mech, but instead you call it an animal...

Not sure where to draw the line.

This contest feels very different than the previous ones. While it used to be hard to think of what to make, this time there are so many things I want to make that it's hard to choose.

@Jim Is arcade game cabinet is counted as licenced If I tried to copy one of game as mechnical? Technically what I want is such an old game that, as far as I know, the license itself has already expired.

I looked it up and it looks like the copyright for the name is still alive, but the copyright for the game mechanics is not. Would it be okay to change the name a little?

I removed the non licensed part from the rules.

You don't need to worry about copyrights if you are building a model for this contest. It's not like you are selling a product.

Oh dear. The length of my 'Things I Want to Make' list has increased by about 1.5 times.
