MontyMatte Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 One of my latest projects. For me it's simply called "The Gate" It started with the construction of the gate and then continued to grow. I’ve already presented some of the techniques on other social networks and had a lot of fun building the framework. Even though I couldn't capture all the details, I hope there's a lot to discover. I couldn't decide on one of the well-known factions (I love them all), but the the red hats were interesting. You can certainly see the result in the form of the gate guard. And also that some of them aren't the smartest ;) Maybe you can also guess who the real boss is in my mind. Anyway, it was fun to build and I look forward to your feedback. Also about how the project itself could continue. Keep building :) KR, Tobi/MM Quote
GeoBrick Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 You created a pretty unique style. From bottom to top, I like the way you rounded out the edges of the display, and the tilework on the path. More upwards, the masonry of the outer wall around the gate itself and the choice of color for the masonry bricks. Not to mention those curved bricks in the entrance. Nice detailing on the 'wattle' parts of the build (the upper floors), it seems just enough, definitely not overdone. The roofs are simple, but elegant. It finishes the build well. And a unique choice of figs to populate the scene. The rooms are very detailed for such a small spaces, reminds me of the way LEGO designers fill up the Ninjago City houses and shops. I'll have to remember that halter you created for the cow. Don't think I've seen that method before. I'd say that compared to the rest of the MOC, the birch trees are the weakest part. Quote
Yoggington Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 (edited) Fabulous work. I love how the rooves came together - especially the slight extension at the front of the tallest tower. I can't fault a lot on it, but if I had to add some constructive criticism, I'd lose the Yoda quote. The modern font is way out of whack with the rest of the vibe. Also, the linktree in your signature is 404ing - can I get a direct link to your flickr? I would certainly follow your work. Edited December 24, 2024 by Yoggington Quote
NOD Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Great, the building looks interesting from the front but the back is even more fun because there is a lot to see! I think the real boss is the one standing in the room above the gate holding a glass of wine. While everyone else is working, he drinks wine. Quote

I'm really looking forward to your detailed feedback. Of course the content that you particularly like... but also the birch trees, for example, so I know what I can work on :) Thank you also for taking the time to answer. I appreciate it :) Quote
iragm Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Put the birch trees at rule of thirds or golden ratio points, have 3 of them instead of 2, and put them on a Technic pin under the ground so they are slightly angled and direct your eye around the build, and they would be a lot better. The path is well detailed but the flagstones aren't flagstones, they're more like something from the giant's causeway. One other thing that jumps out at me is that the logs "supporting" the floors are too high on the left side, they're in the middle of the room instead of underneath. I don't normally comment on stuff because I have very little to add, but I like the minifigures, they are a breath of fresh air from the usual black falcon/lion knight guards in other builds, and have a sort of timelessness about them with the modern hats, the pirate torsos and the general medieval feel of the build. A lot of this build is a bit detached from reality (the Yoda quote, the angles above the stonework, the blacksmith's glasses, the chimney angles, etc.) and the minifigures really help sell this as intentional. The Yoda quote was initially a placeholder. At some point I got used to it and thought it was funny - but that's debatable ;) I don't know what's going on with linktr.ee. Actually, everything is set up correctly. You can find me here on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/195027856@N06/albums/ See you soon. And thanks again :) Quote
Yoggington Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Followed you there. The Spectaculum & Willow, I remember supporting your work before! Quote

Everyone knows that the boss works the hardest ;) So in my story (as at home) the little lady is the real boss. But of course that's just my story. Thanks for your kind words btw :) Quote
