Presumably there will also be an advent calendar. We already have a strong indication that LEGO won't completely stop doing them (a Minecraft one has already been rumored), and the HP one was pretty much the best-received and (presumably) best-selling one this year (in contrast to the Marvel and Disney ones, which ended up being quite heavily discounted even by LEGO's own online store). Plus like I've said before I'd except the Main Tower to be similarly empty as the Great Hall and to need beefing up.

I really wish they’d give us a school robes multipack - say five of each house - with generic heads (or maybe they could run a competition for kids to be featured as a print!); and to make it perfect they’d do them with robe prints on the legs like they did in the first CMF series.

Also, I wish we could get a Potter magazine - those stickers were so charming, I would love to see original stories in a magazine from the first couple of years with funny endings. I know JK controls everything closely but Lego know how to do this and wouldn’t make anything controversial.

They did the Magical Trunk set a few years back which was kinda like this— though the price was bulked up by the pieces to build the trunk itself

They gave us the Hogwarts Students blister pack back in 2020 with Harry, Draco, Cho and Hannah Abbott to represent the four houses, but further packs in that vein got replaced by the "Hogwarts Moments" fold-out sets and then later the house banners as a means of giving us various students instead. Another blister pack, or a set with four figures and a small build like the Star Wars battle packs, is long overdue for the HP line. I'm just worried that any such set would need a new "gimmick" (like the magical trunk or the folding sets) to attract more casual fans which would push up the price.

Yeah, we definitely need more sets like that! Plus more Death Eaters. Too bad they stopped with the blister packs a couple of years ago, so we have to hope for either battle-pack-style sets or a new type of gimmicky minifig-centric set :shrug_oh_well:

Posted (edited)

There are just not enough sets each year to justify a battle pack. Star Wars has twice the sets and only 1 battle pack a year.

They would need to turn either Charms, Dueling or Hedwig into a minifigure pack this year.

It is really a shame they discontinued the blister pack style sets for all themes. They gave us some great parts – for Harry Potter the first one was basically a house jumper army builder and the second provided a rather nice little selection of magical shop wares including an owl, and they both had great unique tile prints (I keep the DA sign up sheet from the second one tacked up on the wall of the 2020 Room of Requirement). They could have been a great opportunity for Death Eater army building and the like, but I suppose the product format must not have sold well or been cost effective or something.

On a completely different note, is anyone else peeved that we don’t get any collectible portraits in the Malfoy Manor set? We got 2 in the D2C Burrow despite oil paintings not fitting that setting at all, but Malfoy Manor - which canonically has big oil painting portraits - nothing? Seriously?

They are making the Collectible Portraits a lot harder to get than the Chocolate Frog Cards were.  At least with the Frog Cards they put them in one of the Polybags making it easier to try to find the ones you were missing.

A lot of HP sets went EOL per the end of 2024. This included - no big surprises there - the last remnant of the 2018 modular Hogwarts system (Astronomy Tower), all the remaining sets of the 2021 modular Hogwarts system, and both Hogsmeade sets (though the Hogwarts Express with Hogsmeade Station remains on the shelves, but I guess that one counts more as a Hogwarts Express set than a Hogsmeade set). A slight surprise to me are Expecto Patronum and the Quidditch trunk, both from 2023 so they really didn't last long. The UCS Hogwarts Express also went EOL while much older UCS sets (microscale Hogwarts, Diagon Alley, and Hogwarts Icons) remain available but then we knew that this set hadn't been well-received.

The EOL list also includes, and that's more of a surprise to me: all the connectible Forbidden Forest sets from 2024 (the Draco polybag and the cobbled-together Ron and Hermione one) excpt for the Aragog one; WWW (from 2023, with Ollivander's still on shelves and another playset DA set coming in Summer), and the Triwizard Tournament second task (from 2023 and with the Triwizard Tournament Arrival set still available). WWW especially puzzles me, as it seems to have been fairly well-received (given that LEGO are continuing with the playset DA line and especially its wacky pricing) and it's an integral part of DA which would hardly feel complete without it. And the Aragog set now contains a pitifully small slice of forest with clips but no more chance for expansion (since I don't think there are any Forbidden Forest sets planned). Has LEGO been that eager to break up lines in the past?

The playscale Hogwarts Express was on the 2024 EOL list, but it has been extended to end of 2025 from what I've read. The Flying Ford Anglia was also down on the 2024 EOL list when it came out, but has also supposedly been extended to 2027, which makes a lot more sense to me considering it pairs so well with the D2C Burrow and is just a great little cheap set for kids to pick up regardless.

The last sets of the previous Hogwarts Castle line are no surprise. From comments I've seen in various places, having different modular castle systems on shelves at the same time does cause consumer confusion, so a fresh start there really is needed. I can also understand Expecto Patronum and the Quidditch Trunk. Expecto Patronum was always on sale and the Quidditch Trunk was also an overpriced gimmick. I don't know if either have sold particularly well. It's a shame about the D2C Hogwarts Express because it's a beautiful set, just so hard to display with length, which probably put off a lot of buyers.

WWW and the The Black Lake are a bit more puzzling. I would have expected WWW to stay around for another year to allow people to get caught up in creating a new modular Diagon Alley as there would have been three sets on shelves by this summer, but alas it would seem not. Same with The Black Lake, as the Durmstrang Ship and Beauxbatons Carriage set is currently set to retire at the end of next year and the two sets pair very well, not to mention I think The Black Lake was well received.

As for the Forbidden Forest set, I wonder if it was just a way of them getting rid of surplus Buckbeak and baby thestral stock with an easy set? Duplicated minifigures, but a creature battlepack probably made an easy design and easy sell. True discontinuing breaks up a forest module line as it doesn't look like there will be any more forest sets this summer, but it screamed filler set from the start considering the ages of Hermione and Ron didn't match the creatures. The 'forest' in the Aragog set is also so negligible as to be insignificant so that set can just sell on the basis of the spider. It is true though that there doesn't seem to be much stickability with the HP theme considering how many times we've changed castles, and now the DA modules not sticking around for long.

Those are all great sets for a younger audience getting into Lego and/or Harry Potter for the first time

Battle packs are more geared towards those already into Lego looking to beef out their displays.

Do we know what the book nook set is supposed to look like?

Not really, apart from the rumor on it featuring the Hogwarts Express.

I've said it before but a competitor has already done a book nook with the Hogwarts Express as its subject: Reobrix 66031. There's also others not made from bricks.

Though the Reobrix one has about 3.000 pieces and the LEGO one is said to have less than 900, no idea how that'll work.

Yeah and that is exactly what made an otherwise cool Set a really bad Set.

Well I don´t think that is really the case, since HP is still one of the bigger Lego themes, though of course not as big (number of Set-wise) as Star Wars or Ninjago. Still they have done packs before, and I wouldn´t be surprised if we will get such Sets in the futures. Though I wouldn´t be to sure to get a pack to create multiple Hogwarts students from all houses ofc. Even if I think it wouldn´t sell that bad.

Honestly, I am not surprised at all. I think we will get those mainly in Hogwarts Modules, as they are meant to be displayed in those - and lets be honest, since the portraits are random, it wouldn´t make much sense in the Malfoy Set. I mean, if you get Salazar Slytherin, it would fit quite well in the Manor, but a Potrait of Gryffindor? That would look totally misplaced.

Not really surprised about that one honestly. In the end to make new Sets they have to get rid of old ones, and retiring an Diagon Alley Set to make space for a new one seems to make a lot sense to me. I would expect the same to happen to all other Sets of the line, though of course wouldn´t be the first time Lego keeps something around for longer if it is really doing well (though there might be more things to consider than just that)

They have, especially since most waves consist of more Sets anyways. Another Sets that isn´t that surprising, though I wouldn´t be surprised if it would have gone EOL next year either. But in the end it is the only Set keeping the Thestral, Cornish Pixie and Buckbeak in production and that might have been one of the reasons to let it go.

That on the hand would be something that would really surprise me, if the Durmstrang ship really retires next year - I mean, sure it isn´t really a uncommon production run to last just 1,5 years, And in the end Grimmauld Place didn´t last longer either, but still...

A portrait of Slytherin would also look rather out of place in Hagrid’s Hut or the Burrow, but both of those sets included two portraits. The thing is, you can hand wave away the possibility of the random portrait subject not fitting the setting (swapping out portraits as you please is kinda expected – when both my Owlery and Boathouse came with the same portrait I immediately switched one for the second in Hagrid’s Hut, which is supposed to get stashed in a cabinet where it couldn’t be seen anyway), but I personally feel it’s far more anachronistic to have fancy oil paintings in gilded frames in settings where no such thing would be hung – which is why it annoys me that Hagrid’s Hut and the Burrow get some but Malfoy Manor doesn’t.

Well, you are right, but in the end how many pictures would fit in the Manor aside from Slitherin? And how many would fit as random portrait in the Hut and the Burrow? Sure a golden frame might not be what you expect there, but overall the portraits make a lot more sense in the burrow than in the Manor. Not that I would have minded if they would have included them there anyways, since more chances to get them also increases the chance to actually collect them all.

Poly bag image leaked and Harry is the minifigure (unless you count the statue).

Not sure if the torso is new, but overall a meh polybag.

Edit: Torso is the Oliver Wood torso from Flying Lesson

I wonder if part of this is because the D2C Diagon Alley is still on shelves - if three smaller Diagon Alley sets are on sale at a time and maybe have a discount, people might be less inclined to buy the D2C set. Instead they have a rotation of Diagon Alley shops. This is different to Hogwarts sets, as Diagon Alley won't make a "complete system" - they are just shops that can be lined up next to each other. If someone wanted to make a Hogwarts and the Great Hall had retired, that wouldn't work - but if someone wants to make an alley, they don't need WWW to make a functioning alley (even if its absence would be noticeable).

Tbh none of the HP retailer exclusives seem to last long. Grimmauld Place, the Burrow, First Flying Lesson (the previous one!), now the Durmstrang Ship...

Literally any of the portraits in fancy outfits would fit at Malfoy Manor. Have you not seen the interior shots? The dining room features giant sticker portraits of Malfoy ancestors. If there’s any set not part of the actual castle that featured portraits it should have been this one.

This year’s polybag seems to want to compete with last year’s on how underwhelming it can be. The only sort of interesting thing is that they’ve switched from a stud shooter to a tile shooter for bludgers and it includes the crossed swords statue that didn’t make the cut in the Flying Lessons set.

I like the inclusion of the statue in the Polybag, though have to say, yet another Harry isn´t really what people are looking for I guess, though it isn´t really surprising. Still would have prefered if we would have gotten a Hufflepuff this year after we got Ravenclaw two year ago and Slitherin last year. And honestly, I don´t like the Torso they used for Harry at all.

Yeah, but those are just that sets I would rather see stay around for longer than others. But well Lego will have there reasons for how they are doing it.

I´m afraid I can´t follow you. What set are you referring to with the stud shooters?
