Borex Posted January 14 Posted January 14 If there’s going to be small spider sets i hope that there will be additions to the bodega build. And i like a train too, though i don’t know where to put that in my city diorama For a big modular i guess they will do the FFbuilding. Because they do all headquartes of teams. (In a way the bugle is also half a hq for spidey). And if they do the Baxter Building i might need the Avengers tower too :-s Either way, crossed fingers for comic versions on any new big set :-) Quote

They haven't laid the groundwork a ton (for either modular, actually. If the FF set was comic based that might be a bit of a lead-in, but it's not and no way we get an MCU modular before they can judge how well the movie did.), as-is aside from spider man and venom always being on shelves, oscorp could re-use, what, anti-venom and spider-girl? The bugle had a much larger selection of re-uses to go off of. TBF, the X-Mansion and the Sanctum Sanctorum only had a small handful of figures that they reused. A lot of people were dissatisfied with the final figure counts of those sets as a consequence, but that doesn’t mean we can rule out a modular on the basis of “not enough figures available for reuse.” And there’s a large number of characters that could be included in Oscorp if they recycle figures from the Daily Bugle, use existing pieces to create civilians, or if they decide to make it ITSV based for some odd reason. edit: As for the Baxter Building, it sounds like we’re getting “powered up” versions of the characters in the Galactus set. Include those along with “non-powered” versions of the four. Two new torso prints, reuse some heads. Up to eight minifigures with a very small cost to the budget. Throw in Silver Surfer and maybe Moleman or Dr Doom (I have no idea who is in the film, so I’m just going with some of their better known villains who could appear) and you’re up to 9 or 10. Same as the Sanctum Sanctorum or the X-Mansion. Everyone here is disappointed and angry. We all scream about how outrageous the cost is. Lego releases a GWP with comic based Reed Richards and Dr Doom. The set sells out within a week. We all lament what could have been. Rinse and repeat next year with Castle Von Doom. That's true, but I assume Oscorp is going to be a lot more in line with the bugle or AT, partially because they've been alternating in terms of fig count/size, and also just because logically, if you CAN "set up" the modular's figures with earlier ones in the wave, why wouldn't you? With the X-men and Multiverse of Madness, lego wasn't confident enough in the x-men to set the groundwork with a number of sets beforehand, and obviously they would never do a full Multiverse of Madness wave. I don't think they'll recycle anyone besides Spider-Man and Venom (MAYBE spider-gwen or Miles but I really doubt it) from the bugle. And sure, they could use civilians (if this modular is an ITSV based oscorp- and I don't think we even saw oscorp in ITSV, unless it was in a background skyline shot- I will eat a Miles Morales minifigure and upload it to youtube.) I also don't think they'd re-do a full set of the characters in the same outfits in the same set. The closest we've really come to that is the two caps, but that represents an actual scene in the movie. Plus Ben would just be repeating the same figure since he can't really turn his powers off and on. It would also mean you couldn't display more than 5 or 6 figures on the front of the box. thebricksbear Posted January 14 Posted January 14 You guys don't think the lack of F4 sets kind of indicates the modular is the Baxter building? Lego has released small sets complimentary to the modular 3 times now... It's surely the Baxter building. The Sanctum had the Gargantos battle, the X-Mansion had the X-jet, and the Avengers tower had the Leviathan battle. Maybe if we're lucky we'll get a bunch of the villains that are allegedly in the 'superhero' montage that's rumored, like Moleman, etc... I also wonder if the existence of a modular Baxter Building means we'll get regular F4 minifigs in either set, or maybe if they enter 616 we'll get two different versions of their suits... and a bigfig Thing! BrickBob Studpants Posted January 14 Posted January 14 At this point, we don‘t even know if we‘re getting a D2C set this year in the first place And if we do, they may throw us a curveball and release something like a UCS-style Quinjet Oscorp Tower and the Baxter Building are far more obscure to the average customer than any of the previous Marvel D2C sets. I mean I agree but does obscurity matter if a tentpole MCU movie is releasing this year? I would'nt have said Sanctum would be a super popular set prior to DS2 releasing but the movie helped with that considerably. I can only speculate of course but given Daily Bugle AND the tower are heading out, and meanwhile modulars are more popular than ever, I think we'll probably see a steady flow of Marvel modulars. Lego seems to be taking a UCS strategy with adult lego buyers including LotR, Zelda, etc... A UCS Jango's Quinjet would really torment a lot of us Quote

I think Oscorp is about as well known as the bugle, and at the end of the day it boils down to "spider man building". I mean, it's where he got his powers, his archenemy's building, where half his villains come from in half the continuities. I don't think a black building with an Oscorp logo would sell much worse than a grey one with a Bugle logo. I agree Baxter is definitely pretty obscure currently, but I think in a few years, especially if the movie does well, it could be an option. Rivals is certainly putting in the work to help get the F4 a bit more name recognition. 5 hours ago, thebricksbear said: You guys don't think the lack of F4 sets kind of indicates the modular is the Baxter building? No, I think it's entirely the other way around, I think the lack of F4 sets indicated this is NOT the baxter building. Like I say below, I highly doubt it'll be MCU based- aside from my main "lego does not (nor should they) have modular-level faith in a new subfranchise for the MCU at this point", the previous movie modulars have been from locations that were each in a chunk of films, whereas if they were doing a baxter building this year, they'd have concept art- not even the full movie, just concept art- of precisely one film to go off of. And if it were comic based, we'd need at least one comic based set to get some prints from. That isn't to say I wouldn't want one, especially if it came with more comic accurate blue suits and a bigfig thing. 4 hours ago, thebricksbear said: I mean I agree but does obscurity matter if a tentpole MCU movie is releasing this year? Lego has lost so much confidence in the MCU that half the movies barely get any coverage at all anymore, we aren't seeing a modular based on an unproven movie, especially one where the previous iterations have a reputation as being comically terrible. (Opinion seems to be turning on the Tim Story movies in a bit more of a positive direction recently, but still). The Sanctum was banking on not just an established popular MCU character, but being half-based on one of the biggest movies ever made. Edited January 15 by Mandalorianknight Quote

Swordy Posted January 15 Posted January 15 (edited) Hot take: Baxter Building can come off as a bit ugly to the uninformed. Plus, it seems that the 4 Logo is only featured on the top in most cases, so it wouldn’t have the ease of iconicity that Avengers Tower has. They could play around with the design, sure, but they can do the same with Oscorp and give it a killer of a bad guy building design (my go-to design-wise has been and always will be the LMS1&2 design, although it isn’t comic-accurate). In the latter’s case, people will be attracted by the obvious Spider-Man connection, as opposed an untested connection with a newly rebooted superhero team. We seem to be running low on options at this point. Since we’re talking villain modulars, Fisk Tower might go over pretty well, especially since Daredevil: Born Again airs this year. Sure, on the surface, the set is an office building with red letters on top and a bunch of Spidey figures. However, it‘s Peter‘s workplace and „home“ to JJJ, arguably one of the most iconic Marvel civilians. The whole final sequence of TASM takes place there, and it's featured heavily in both of those movies. It's also relevant in the first Raimi movie. Daily Bugle though? It's just... there. For most people it's just a regular office building that they wouldn't even be able to name. Raimi's Daily Bugle looks nothing like the set, and I'd argue that if you asked most casual viewers, they'd sooner know what Oscorp is than what Daily Bugle is. Not to mention that it's kind of irrelevant in this context, since huge Marvel D2C sets aren't really made for people who don't know what Oscorp or Faily Bugle is. Quote

psqidexslizer Posted January 15 Posted January 15 The Daily Bugle appears to have sold well, so I have no doubt an Oscorp would also sell well. For one thing, it’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man sells well. For another, this is, idk, something like the third year in a row where people here have been talking about Oscorp as a potential modular building. Lastly, it’s a villain lair with huge potential for easter eggs and play features. Just going off of the movies, Oscorp serves as the birthplace for Spiderman, Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Green Goblin II, The Lizard, Electro, Green Goblin yet again. You could seriously build a four story building just featuring labs where various characters got their powers in the movies. It serves as the lair for Green Goblin in three movies and multiple cartoon and comic series. It serves as the place where Spider-Man has fought The Lizard at the end of TASM. That’s a lot of scenes that can be made that people would be interested in having recreated in Lego, and I’ve barely scratched the surface. Quote

You can't deny that the two buildings are generally the same- "big spider man building". 1 minute ago, psqidexslizer said: The Daily Bugle appears to have sold well, so I have no doubt an Oscorp would also sell well. Yeah, without the F4 becoming household names again, it won't work. I think Oscorp is more likely than Fisk Tower, chiefly because Goblin and all the other Oscorp related villains are more popular than Fisk. I think Fisk Tower is possible as a third spider man D2C in like 2029, but they'd have to work in some other, more well-known locations into it, because without that it's a tower less well known than Oscorp or the bugle without much you can do in the interior. psqidexslizer Posted January 15 Posted January 15 As far as the Baxter building is concerned, I’m sticking with my prediction that it’ll release in 2027 as a Secret Wars tie-in. Supposedly the Fantastic Four is going to have a big role in that film and I frankly think there’s a lot more minifigure potential once you include Dr Doom and the Avengers and possibly other villains and maybe a bunch of Multiverse variants. Right now, they can include the Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, maybe another villain or two, and a bunch of civilians just to get the number of figures up past 6. Unless you do powered and de-powered versions of the Fantastic Four, it’s a very disappointing line-up (and arguably it still would be, but at least it’s not a bunch of purist civilian characters). Also, let’s face it, the Fantastic Four just aren’t in the same situation the X-Men were in where a lot of people have been clamoring for sets but Lego just couldn’t make them due to Marvel refusing to let merchandise be made for one of their competitors. While the X-Men have had their misses, they’re had some big hits too for the past few decades. The original two X-Men films, First Class, Days of Future Past, Logan, the Deadpool series, X-Men Evolution, etc. Fantastic Four hasn’t had much mainstream success in the past 25 years… if not longer. It’ll take time for their brand to reach the point where Lego could market a $300 set for them. Quote

But I remember the Secret Invasion trailer looking good as well. Yeah, same here. There's a lot I love about it- the netflix theme on church organ, Matt and Fisk seeming consistent with their netflix versions in the trailer, Punisher's back, etc. (That one's big. Jon's spoken in the past about how he wanted to make sure they treat the character right, and having seen some of his podcast, I think he does really get Punisher.) But disney's shown their ability to mess up established, good subfranchises before, especially the ones that are more adult/"real world". Though I doubt it translated into any direct tie ins, since it is clearly bone-splittingly TV-MA. At best, we get a spider-man set with comic daredevil and kingpin. (Please lego? Please?) White Tiger and Bullseye are possible too I guess, if we're going with the "spider man set with comic daredevil and kingpin" pipe dream, but Muse, much like direct tie-ins, is another definite no. That character is not showing up in a lego set anytime soon. Quote
JohnTPT17 Posted January 15 Posted January 15 That trailer is probably the most excited I've felt for a Marvel entry for awhile. The Netflix show was a bit more violent than my regular tastes, but I really liked the characters and story. I'm very interested to see how it will turn out (though I think the chances for any Lego tie-ins are extremely slim). 14 minutes ago, Mandalorianknight said: White Tiger We got the character back in 2016! THELEGOBATMAN Posted January 15 Posted January 15 The trailer didn't really do anything for me to be honest. I'm not particularly excited for this series, even though the third season of Daredevil was absolute peak. Hope it's amazing though. Quote
