Lyichir Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 New Elementary also has a review of some of the new parts/recolors (with reviews of the sets themselves presumably coming later). https://www.newelementary.com/2024/12/parts-review-january-2025-lego-dreamzzz.html A lot of fun parts and figures. It wouldn't surprise me to see a large humanoid figure/mech using that brain piece in the summer sets, as a large vehicle for the villains. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted January 1 Posted January 1 This post will end up landing wherever once split the posts from the discussion from 2024, but it looks a lot tidier to have a 2025 thread now. Quote
Lyichir Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Instructions are out now and the first illustration in the Gaming Controller Jet set gives a peek at what Zoey, Astrid, and Logan will look like in the new year. Astrid seems to have a new hairpiece/crown of sorts while Logan has a ballcap with animal-like ears. Quote

I’m not a big fan of this design for Logan, but Zoey looks great and I love that Astrid is now part of the gang! Speaking of, I’m working on building a moc of a dragon for Astrid and Logan to ride together Quote

I wonder if it's the origin of this BAM recolour: Two reviews of the January sets: I haven't watched them yet but they're the only two sets that really warrant a lengthy review. The new elementary post was a good look at all the new minifigures. Edited January 4 by rebelpilot Quote

Though I wouldn´t put to much into them canceling one Set, that has happened to other themes to without getting canceled. And especially for dreams it could also just mean that it showed that that expensive sets aren´t working for this theme. Not that I would be totally surprised if it gets canceled in the end, but I don´t think it is running as bad as Vidiyo that they really have to cancel the theme with Sets close to release. Quote
karrit Posted January 5 Posted January 5 (edited) I find the more expensive sets in this theme to be more interesting but tend to end up not getting them unless I find a great deal on them. I don't like the mechs so most of the cheap & midrange sets aren't anything I would actually buy. I would guess there is an audience for this theme but mostly I just buy the individual parts I want when they show up on PAB. It was the same with the Monkie Kid sets for me. The only set I was really really hyped about this wave. Out of the Summer wave this was the one I was least interested in just based on the name, being D2C and price. But I still wanted to see what it looked like it could have been a great build, I'm just not that interested in the gaming theme. I think this Summer wave will be the final one and season 3 of the series will be the end. I can't see Lego continuing putting out new sets, other than what is already planned, when they're just not seeing the sales. The D2C Castle Nocturinia already saw a 25% off sale here in Australia post Xmas just to move some stock. Regular sets see over 50% off being clearanced by other retailers, which is quite rare to see for most Lego sets. Unfortunately I don't really like the build (I like the alt bike build more than the car), maybe if I see it discounted by a significant amount. The other set I also dismissed but I now really enjoy the Tiger Mech (the Hot Rod not so much). I had no idea before watching the review that there were not 3-in-1 type alt builds but modules you mix and match to create other configurations. Kudos to the designers for trying something different this wave. Lastly, the new cyber brain spider like creatures (not really spiders if they've not got 8 legs) are really giving me the ick. I didn't mind the dark pink, purple and yellowish green coloured spiders from the first 2 waves, 30636 is almost cute, but something about the more realistic leg shaping or large abdomens that triggers my brain in to immediately seeing it as a threat. Thanks Lego for the brick based arachnophobia! 76434 can also die in a fire. Edited January 6 by rebelpilot Quote

I'm still not sure who the target audience is supposed to be, to be honest. The cutesy dream creatures and the nightmare stuff don't really seem to fit the same age group imo. The nightmare stuff also looks a lot like Ninjago and the dream stuff looks a lot like Friends right down to the colours, so there's some obvious in-house competition there. And while LEGO has shown an annoying tendency lately towards really expensive playsets across several themes (like the Friends buildings and the new modular Hogwarts), Dreamzzz is by far the most parents-unfriendly of those themes. You know what parents like even less than their children being into nightmares? Their children being into video games! Edited January 6 by brickbride Typos Quote

I know it wasn't really a question but there's a pretty decent article from The Wall Street Journal on the creation of the theme. I've also seen other articles on the number of kids surveyed from all around the world on their dreams and the focus groups Lego used when developing Dreamzzz and the set concept models. But you can definitely focus group something creative with an inch of its life, if you try to appeal to everyone, you'll appeal to no one. That may be the case with Dreamzzz. My theory has been that parent and grandparents traditionally buy Lego for kids for gifts or rewards, when they're in store looking to spend say 100 dollars (or currency equivalent) they see all the various themes on the shelves, Dreamzzz is a bit out there and has a lot going for it (vibrant, creative, rebuildability etc) but it's a bit of a risk as far as the child liking it and Lego isn't cheap, Dreamzzz included. They probably know my son likes Marvel or my daughter likes Disney this will be a safe bet so they get something Spider-Man or Frozen, not wanting to take a chance on the unknown that is Dreamzzz. I really need to stop watching these reviews because that's another set I'd dismissed and now I sort of want. I've repeated that the video game theme isn't for me, so I don't care for the game controller aspect, but I love the colours and it just looks like a very swooshable, well designed and built, cool looking space ship. Only one minifigure hurts it a bit and Cooper is not my favourite character, I would have much preferred the S2 silver version. I've stated it's not my intention to spam the thread with video reviews and they were well received before but Bricks By Mind is one of the few LAN members covering Dreamzzz so options are limited. That said, I really do like his very detailed reviews. 22 hours ago, rebelpilot said: But I still wanted to see what it looked like it could have been a great build, I'm just not that interested in the gaming theme. I realised after posting this we'll probably still see what the Game Island Tower looks like via the tv show, so there's that at least. Although from past experience with the Sandman Tower, Dream Creature Stable etc the sets seem to look a lot better than the location models from the show, in my opinion. I can be patient so hopefully they will appear in time. I'm not British but I'm familiar enough with the retailers to know the more popular ones, just not familiar enough to know which is the biggest :P That's what I feared, the lack of sales will prevent retailers from ordering this wave and the coming Summer wave. I would be still able to order what I want from Lego but then I won't see much of a discount. Edited January 12 by rebelpilot Quote

Barnes and noble here in the U.S has essentially put all of the January sets as online exclusives. I’ve been noticing a trend as well, when the first wave came out, Walmart had all the sets in store, while target didn’t have the spacebus or shark ship. Wave two, target had only the small Mateo and izzie sets, as well as the space car. A nicer Walmart about 10 minutes away from where I live had Zian, but put it on clearance in march/April of last year. Wave three, and Walmart didn’t carry the izzie dream animals or nightmare creatures (I did see a Walmart on vacation carrying the nightmare creatures though) and didn’t have the Z-blob knight mech either. Target had the dream animals/nightmare creatures, but didn’t have the midnight raven or knight mech. Wave four, Walmart has the 1 in 20 bunchu, and the gaming jet, meanwhile target has 1 in 20 Z-blob, bunchurro, an Z-blob car, neither have the tiger mech. Quote

So far I've only seen the 2 smallest/cheapest boxed sets on retailer's shelves; Bunchu's Creative Animal Adventures and Z-Blob's Robot and Vehicle Adventures. They're not even in stock on the British Lego website right now Quote
