icm Posted January 15 Posted January 15 In early drafts of Star Wars, the "Stardestroyer" was a small two-seat fighter operated by the Empire. As the story and concept art were refined, early art for a wedge-shaped fighter evolved into the civilian T-16 Skyhopper, while the Imperial fighter evolved into the eyeball-shaped TIE Fighter and the wedge-shaped Stardestroyer became the enormous Imperial battleship that we're all familiar with. During the production of the prequel trilogy, George Lucas wanted to revisit the idea of the Star Destroyer as a small fighter craft. He asked Doug Chiang to come up with a design for the Star Destroyer shrunk down to the size of a fighter, and Doug Chiang responded with the Delta-7 Aethersprite, or Obi-Wan's Jedi starfighter from Attack of the Clones. This was a very successful design in-universe and it was an immediate hit with the fans, too - which is why Lego has made so many of them over the years. As soon as I saw the midi-scale Acclamator, I knew I wanted to turn it into a starfighter, as a rather more literal take on the idea of taking the shape of one of the big gray wedge-shaped capital ships and turning it into a starfighter. This is a pretty simple modification that I hope to be able to build one day if I can ever find the source set 75404 on clearance. Because I've only built this in Studio, stability is not guaranteed, but I might decide to make instructions and put them up on Rebrickable anyway. Let me know if there's any interest. PS - If any of you has ever, say, taken a midi-size ISD build and turned it into a starfighter, I'd love to see that! Quote
KimT Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Nice, thanks for putting in the backstory - always great to learn more about the reasons for various choices in the Star Wars Universe. A really cool transformation of the Acclamator into the star destroyer-ish design. Keep up the good work. Quote
