I have modified my human sets because of this; I think they just look better as mining/research vehicles. 7695 and 7648 were easy to modify, as was 7645 (in addition to removing the cannons from the latter, I also changed the engine a bit, so it is no longer sucking energy from the alien). It was a little tougher with 7649, since I had to find something that looked good in place of the cannons; eventually I settled on a satellite). 7692 has proven to be the greatest challenge (I also removed all the alien holding cells . . . I was able to do something cool with 7647 before I dismantled it).

Somehow, as I read this thread, I begin to believe that the entire MM line is intended as social commentary on the United States and the former Soviet Union, with the two groups representing the struggle inherent in the arms race. Each side feels that it is right and the other is evil. Each side contains a little of each part, but in the end, only you can decide how it will turn out.

Or, it's just a kids toy and we're trying to turn it into something serious again!

Unless they're Pirates.

Guess so

As for being Pirates.... We could have an Alien Pirate ship! :pir-laugh:

Mariko, Can't you just mention the set names instead of the numbers?

Sorry about that. Re-worded:

The MX-11 Astro Fighter and the MT-21 Mobile Mining Unit were easy to modify, as was the MT-61 Crystal Reaper (in addition to removing the cannons from the latter, I also changed the engine a bit, so it is no longer sucking energy from the alien). It was a little tougher with the MT-201 Ultra Drill Walker, since I had to find something that looked good in place of the cannons; eventually I settled on a satellite). The MX-71 Recon Dropship has proven to be the greatest challenge (I also removed all the alien holding cells . . . I was able to do something cool with the MX-41 Switch Fighter before I dismantled it).

Ah ok that really clears things up. Still, I don't see the difference between the humans wanting the crystals, and the aliens wanting them. In a previous review by someone- they showed the aliens being sucked dry for energy in a human vehicle!

Surely in real life humans would at least attempt to discuss things over with the aliens before deciding to capture them and wipe Mars dry of resources. Who knows? Maybe the aliens need the crystals for survival.

i dont know what rose-tinted window you grew up behind, but you have some pretty odd ideas about humanity. human have fought human since the dawn of their time, if they hadn´t we would still live in caves and hunt with spears.

humans have fought over land, resources, race, religion etc.

do you really want to add species to that?

if humanity were to meet an alien race the were competing about the same resources (energy crystals in this case) peace and mutual understanding is highly unlikley.

any claim otherwise just show that you have failed to comprehend humanitys history.

this might be overanalysing a childrens toy, but starting a morality disscussion tend to do that.

EDIT: this isn´t meant to offend anyone, it just pisses me off when people beleive only good about man.

we = humans = the good guys!

aliens (from Mars, Venus or whatever) = the bad guys!

Hope this clears things up!

skinkfem actually explained everything, I completely agree with him.

Thanks, It sounds pretty cool, I'll have to try that myself... As for the Alien being sucked dry, it's pretty dark for TLC, but the set is awesome...

skinkfem, I certainly agree with many of your points--humankind has quite a violent past. However, I think that you're overlooking a few important factors, the largest of which is fear for survival. The aliens in these sets are clearly better off, as far as weapons go. If we came in contact with an alien race that was clearly able to destroy us, I think we would try for peace first.

Also, humanity is slowly moving towards a point of more understanding. The process is slow, and there are many, many steps backward, but I would certainly say that most nations--including the space-faring ones--are more tolerant than they were two hundred years ago. Hopefully the team of scientists and specialists that would constitute a mission to Mars in the future would understand what the colonizers in the eighteenth and nineteenth century didn't: that we don't have automatic control over everything we see. I think that a group of scientists in particular would be good at realizing this.

I dont think there sucking up the alien, I think its a life-support system to keep it alive.

But...why do they always mention the aliens as being 'captured'?

Well, this will all become clear when LEGO releases its "Alien Interrogation/Dissection Room" :p
