Batbrick Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Hello all! For the last few weeks I've been slowly building up a large Gotham building. It is the Iceberg Lounge, a club Penguin owns which he masquerades as the finest of all Lounges while using it as a front for illegal arms deals and whatnot. It is also a place where the freaks can dine among the normal people, and information is exchanged, with even Batman coming to the Penguin for info. This moc is dedicated to EB member The Penguin, who I haven't seen in some time Here is a partial inspiration pic from the brilliant animated series: And here is the massive creation, build upon a 48x48 baseplate. I am beyond happy at how the lettering at the front came out, do please provide some feedback on this. The colour scheme is based on that of a penguin with an arctic flair of blue inside as you'll see: Right side, I'm also happy how the slopes at the top came out, really gives it style in my opinion: Other side with two open rooms which you'll see later. This section was the hardest but I'm pleased with it: Front Window which you'll see a bit more of later. Front door, and what lies inside: Window Shots I Like. Here is the lower of the two open playable rooms. This is the "Allowed Personnel Only" area where Penguin arranges his illegal arms deals with his customers, and tapes them (as seen by the piece on the table) just in case. There are two stinger missiles in the back for sale. I gave this room a decidedly blander colour scheme to emphasise that this is where the deals are made as opposed to the facade outside: And here is the top room, Penguin's office, complete with mini stairs to see out the window, batarang for inspection, diamonds ("legal" of course ) and a rack for his umbrellas next to the door: Other view. And here is the main attraction, the gorgeous inside: Top view. The lack was incredibly hard as since I have a lack of blue tiles, you can see I built it with normal blue bricks facing sideways: Another view of the lake, I am very proud of how this came out, especially my design of the statue penguin: Cool Views. Here my bar! I love this thing! The chicken and pans were hard to fit on such a small beam, please not that the side door opens to allow staff in and out. also note the bottles aboe, near the little roof: Clock on the wall. Right next to it is the drink refiller and for the less rich, a vending machine under the stairs for lesser wines: The door entrance (surprisingly hard for some reason), which I wanted to make a small corridor: Which in turn is next to the toilet. This is a bot of a bummer, the toilet is one of my favourite parts yes you can barely see it. It has also a small hand washing basin in the wall: The toilet door is in turn next to the locked (note the lock) swing doors that lead to the deals room. These doors are short as specialised for penguins for an air of superiority over his partners: Doors open. Another Lake Shot. Now up the stairs is the "guest section". This is where the elite of the visitors come to sit with the owner: The Penguin himself, be it the mayor, celebrity or an interested buyer of arms. This area as the best part included Penguin's love of umbrella and also his love of black and white colour schemes like a penguin: Bigger shot, there are two storage boxes for all manner of bad stuff behind and the window I was talking about earlier makes an appearance to view out of. The blue door leads to Penguin's office of course: Epic shot, it really is cool to look at, it is my favourite Bat-creation yet: More epic shots. I deliberately left the roof mostly open for play purposes and I think it works: Now we have it filled up, my favourite bit: Corner Prostitute. Gang Violence. Alfred helps on missions sometimes. Battling Firefly. Chasing the Cat. Facing the SWAT, or is that running Nightwing? Gordon and Montoya and Hugo Strange. Henchman, Summer Gleeson,Bane and Sal Maroni entering the deals room. Bullock leaving the toilet. The lovien' couple! Riddler and Scarecrow discuss politics. Chinese gangster, Talia, Mad Hatter and Poison Ivy enjoy a drink. Mr.Freeze disapproves of the ice machine! Gangster, Gangster, Black Mask and Killer Croc like the waitress. Penguin's favourite customer approves of the colour scheme. No wait, this is EPIC: Final shot: More pics here: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery....334353&n=48 Hope you enjoyed it, I'm very happy with it. Comments appreciated thanks! Batbrick Away! Stauder Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Great work batbrick! But there's only 2 rooms? Either way, I am guessing you will use this for some comic yes? Keep up the good work! Staudie. Ps - Isn't robin nightwing? If so, how can both of them be on the roof? Quote
Skinny Boy Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Whoah. Thats brilliant. But what does everybody do, exactly? Watch the penguins or...? Quote
Stauder Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Whoah. Thats brilliant. But what does everybody do, exactly? Watch the penguins or...? What do you usally do in a lounge? Cotton-Eye-Joe. Quote
Skipper 24 Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 (edited) Amazing! It's massive and full of cool features, I especially like the big penguin statue on top of the fountain. The rooms are also very nice and details but it's a shame there were only 2. The writing on the front of the building I think is done very well using those mini slope bricks. The sides are just to plain for my liking but what else do you expect round the back of a building? Keep up the good work. Edited August 4, 2008 by Skipper 24 Quote
NerdFighter Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 This is awesome. I love the lettering in front of the lounge, and the color scheme is good too. I would have gone with a little more yellow/orange (the color of penguin beaks) but it's still really good. I really like the big penguin statue. The toilet seems a little too big, but it's good that you included one. Quote
tin7_creations Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 this is really great work batbrick. i do suggest that you find a whole bunch of transparent white/blue pieces and add the to your creation. it just doesn't give that "ice" effect. another suggestion, you can make the iceberg in the lake maybe just a bit bigger. but good work. Quote
JimBee Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I love it! The whole thing is really detailed and I can see you put a lot of dedication into this! The exterior is cool, and I really like the letters. Penguin's office is cool as well, the stairs were a neat and funny idea. The balcony is simple, but effective. The deals room is okay. I really like the bar, especially the roof with the drink shelf underneath it. The lake (fountain?) is awesome, I like how you made the penguins. The corridor (by the front door) is very nice, I can see why it was hard to make. I love how you made the ceilings in the corridor and office, they really make the whole creation look more like a building. It's a shame we can't see the toilet, I need ideas for those. The basin is very clever. And finally, you included your Bat figs in a creation!! Overall, I think this is you best creation yet, before the Temple. Quote
Zarkan Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Awesomeness. Man, this is one of your best creations yet. The detail is stunning, and some of the techniques like the lake and the lettering are wonderful. I love the whole thing. Quote
???theriddler??? Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 WOW, this is just amazing! What a thing, i love everything! Great creation! Quote
SuvieD Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Excellent MOC. The letters on the front look great and this has a very cool feeling. I like the place filled up much better than empty though. It has so much going on it that way and it has a hectic gotham look that way. Quote
Shoc Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 (edited) This a really amazing creation! I agree with what others have said, and will also say this is possibly one of the best "big" minifig scale MOC buildings I have ever seen! It just looks great, especially with all the characters inside too! Overall, I think this is you best creation yet, before the Temple. I loved your temple too, this is even better! Isn't robin nightwing? If so, how can both of them be on the roof? Dick Grayson (the first Robin) when he got older, left Batman's side and became Nightwing. There have been 3 other people as Robin since him, the current being Tim Drake. :skull: Edited August 4, 2008 by Shoc Quote
Dovchenko Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Awesome, awesome MOC. Just look at the size of that, and straight from the animated series! Seriously, make some more Locations! The detail on this is pretty hard to duplicate, but I'd love to see some more of these. Quote
Johnny 5 Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Great building Batbrick!! Its got a real clubby feel to it, small standing space, smaller tables, and even less chairs. Did you do some "research" for this one? I really like the outside and how the letters are spelled in bricks, totally awesome. Quote
Erdbeereis Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Another great large MOC by Batbrick! This is an amazing MOC, the details and the design are impeccable. The letters on the front look amazing, as well as the fountain in the center. For me this is a fantastic job and I can't wait to see some more of your MOCs! Quote
Derek Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Woah mama! (Second time I've said that today. ) That is probably one of, if not the best Batman MOC I've ever seen! I love how you added all of your great custom figures in there, even the infamous prostitute . Maybe you could do another big villian headquarters like this. This is truly amazing, great work! darthperson Quote
Oky Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Wow, that's neat! It's big, it's detailed, and it has a nice, consistent color scheme. Where did you get all those round, white table pieces? Unfortunately, I haven't seen this episode, but I love TAS and am glad that you chose to build something from it! And judging from your reference pic, you recreated this club pretty accurately! I really can't wait what you will do next! I hope it's something from TAS again! Here are some things I'd love to see: Joker's hideout (an abandoned toy factory or carnival or something). Mr. Freeze's Lab with frozen wife. Gotham Police Station with Gordon's office. Please? Quote
WhiteFang Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I thought the Mega Mayan Temple was your largest MOC ever? Now, this is a much bigger scale compared to that. I had not seen Penguin for a long time as well. I wonder where he have been? The lounge layout is very nice with its black and white facade, illustrating the Penguin style. The wordings are done very nicely on the front. Overall, it gave me a cold feeling. Brrrrr. What I love the most in this MOC is your penguin fountain. You have done very well with your SNOT technique on the fountain. The penguin statue is really very lovely. Somehow, it reminded me of the Penguin King. The entire building is really very nice. I think you have done a very great job, once again. The best part is by placing all of your Batman minifigs and the rest of your cast which is on your project. It's nice to see almost all of them into this Lounge for some cool drinks. More importantly, this is a place for villians' haven for them to crack their head to pin down Batman. One part of your design in the Lounge which is the single seater that is on the left and right of the fountain. I am not sure why you let them sit individually. Are they supposed to watch the Penguins ice skating peformance in the fountain? Quote
Batbrick Posted August 5, 2008 Author Posted August 5, 2008 Thanks to everyone! I'm glad you like it Great work batbrick! But there's only 2 rooms? Either way, I am guessing you will use this for some comic yes? Thanks Stauder. I'm surprised that there a few gripes at the lack of rooms as the point of the lounge is not the rooms but the open area. And there are three rooms: The toilet counts And yes, I think it will take place in a comic. I just have to find a good program for it. Whoah. Thats brilliant. But what does everybody do, exactly? Watch the penguins or...? Thanks. Being a Lounge people order fine food and wine, drink, talk to other high social members and engorge in the spectacle Pretty much a very high class restaurant with bonus features. This is awesome. I love the lettering in front of the lounge, and the color scheme is good too. I would have gone with a little more yellow/orange (the color of penguin beaks) but it's still really good. I really like the big penguin statue. The toilet seems a little too big, but it's good that you included one. Thanks, you'd be surprised with the toilet, it actually came out pretty good. A little big yes, but not as much as you'd think. this is really great work batbrick. i do suggest that you find a whole bunch of transparent white/blue pieces and add the to your creation. it just doesn't give that "ice" effect. another suggestion, you can make the iceberg in the lake maybe just a bit bigger. but good work. , thanks, but you seem to misunderstand. The "ice" is not real, well, most of it anyway, we can't have our guest freezing now can we? As for the iceberg, I disagree as the lake is necessary for much Bat action as you might see one day. Excellent MOC. The letters on the front look great and this has a very cool feeling.I like the place filled up much better than empty though. It has so much going on it that way and it has a hectic gotham look that way. Thanks SuvieD, is that a pun? Thanks for commenting on it being filled up, I agree that it really gives it personality. Great building Batbrick!! Its got a real clubby feel to it, small standing space, smaller tables, and even less chairs. Did you do some "research" for this one? I really like the outside and how the letters are spelled in bricks, totally awesome. Thanks Johnny5, I did do a little research, watching eps of TNBA with the Iceberg Lounge in it, and seeing some images from the comics. Glad you got the "clubby" feel from it too. Woah mama! (Second time I've said that today. ) That is probably one of, if not the best Batman MOC I've ever seen! I love how you added all of your great custom figures in there, even the infamous prostitute . Maybe you could do another big villian headquarters like this. This is truly amazing, great work! Happy to see someone notice the infamous prostitute again! Thanks for your words, they are too kind. Wow, that's neat! Thanks Oky! I got the table pieces from Exo-Force set Hybrid Rescue Tank and other 2008 sets I believe, I'll see if I can find out the other ones for you. Glad to see another fan of BTAS, this lounge is in the sequel series TNBA (The New Batman Adventures) and in many comics. I really can't wait what you will do next! I hope it's something from TAS again! Here are some things I'd love to see: Joker's hideout (an abandoned toy factory or carnival or something). Mr. Freeze's Lab with frozen wife. Gotham Police Station with Gordon's office. Please? Thankyou! Next up is Wayne Manor as that is essential, but who knows? Mr.Freeze's lab would be great as a small building. As for the Gotham Police station, been there, done that! Here is the link: I thought the Mega Mayan Temple was your largest MOC ever? Now, this is a much bigger scale compared to that. I had not seen Penguin for a long time as well. I wonder where he have been? Thanks Whitefang friend, I hope he comes back What I love the most in this MOC is your penguin fountain. You have done very well with your SNOT technique on the fountain. The penguin statue is really very lovely. Somehow, it reminded me of the Penguin King. The entire building is really very nice. I think you have done a very great job, once again. Thanks a lot mate, I'm really glad you like the fountain, it was really hard. The best part is by placing all of your Batman minifigs and the rest of your cast which is on your project. It's nice to see almost all of them into this Lounge for some cool drinks. More importantly, this is a place for villians' haven for them to crack their head to pin down Batman. Oh I agree! It really does look so much better occupied. Ands as you say, it is a great place for an action scene or also a Bruce Wayne visit One part of your design in the Lounge which is the single seater that is on the left and right of the fountain. I am not sure why you let them sit individually. Are they supposed to watch the Penguins ice skating peformance in the fountain? Ah, I see. Yes, there are some shows which can go on with the fountain like a performer and such. But you may notice that the occupants are close by anyway, so they may chat freely while absorbing the view. Thanks. Batbrick Away! Quote
Inertia Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Great Job Batbrick! I see that most, or all of your custom figs show up in here! The Penguins in the lake look a bit threatening, but the overall look of the place is awesome, especially the battle up the top... The toilet looks a little high.... Quote
Shoc Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Next up is Wayne Manor as that is essential. Yay, this is exciting! I started building a Wayne Manor, or rather a large room of it based on the '60s TV series (with moving bookshelf and batpoles!) to go above the Batcave. Unfortunately the inside was good, for a set, but the outsides of it didn't really work, though I would have loved to build a whole Wayne Manor. I look forward to yours. :skull: Quote
KimT Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Whoa! This is a very nice MOC. Put the Market Place and Café Corner next to it and You've got a city. I like how you've transformed the animated version into a perfect lego minifig-scaled version. And must I add that your white bricks are in very fine condition - no yellowing (most of mine look awful) How about adding a poll to make people vote how good this is? Quote
Brainbox Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 When you said this thing was big, I didn't imagine this! I guess it's a good thing you didn't fill in the roof, you'd have had no bricks left. The outside is fantastic. Quite simple, but well-executed. The letters are really good, and I like the slopes on the roof edge. The inside is just fantastic. The lake in the middle, with the penguin statue, the tables, the bar area, wow! The lake is well-built, and looks nice and clean. Can I ask though, the penguins in the lake... why are they carrying guns? Surely that's not the image a 'respectable club' wants to give out? The 'secret rooms' are good too, they look very utilitarian, rather than classy like the rest of the building. But of course, they're not messy, as there's a brush there to clean up. The toilet is rather big, but it still looks good, and I guess at least it's there. Most people wouldn't have bothered. Seriously though, this is fantastic. A worthy addition to the Lego Bat-mythos, even if it's not one of the better-known locales. Great work mate. Hang on, why are there two Batmen? Three if Matches is still inside? Quote
BlueBard Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 This is an awesome building, BatBrick, with amazing details everywhere and a beautiful diamond in the middle: the penguin fountain. I just... love it Quote
