Oky Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Very impressive! Much better than expected indeed! It looks just like something out of legoland! I would still never get it, though, unless it's for like 30 bucks or so. Is it minifig scale? That would be even better! Quote
WhiteFang Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I am really speechless by the construction, just by looking at the box art. It can take it apart as well, and has more bricks ever than UCS MF. TLG sure make their sets bigger than ever. It certainly looks very very impressive. In addition, I am not sure if you guys had noticed about the prices on the top left hand corner, using hand written. The currency reflected, I am not sure what is it. It seemed Death Star is accepting $4500. While the Taj Mahal is accepting $2000. All transactions are in cash. Orders are now accepted. Quote
whung Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 This price is cheaper than 10188, I guess it will be sold st USD 299.99 Quote
WhiteFang Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 This price is cheaper than 10188, I guess it will be sold st USD 299.99 Thanks whung for that superb picture and the possible retail price. Quote
Johnny 5 Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 This price is cheaper than 10188, I guess it will be sold st USD 299.99 Thats not bad at all considering that the Green Grocer was half that with a third of the pieces. Quote
Derek Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Wow! That is just amazing, but I won't be getting it. I can't wait for a review though! Darthperson Quote
JimBee Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 (edited) Looks awesome, but I'm not too interested, especially if its almost 6000 peices (which is around 600 USD). Good luck to those who are buying it (and their wallets). Edited August 5, 2008 by JimButcher Quote
Inertia Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Sounds and looks cool, but way way too expensive to me. It looks awesome, and the Dome looks incredible. I like the way TLC is heading with all their sets! Quote
Gum-Tree Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 ZOMG! Def getting it... probably order it from Shop@Home This set reminds me of Prison Break Quote
Dragonator Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Wow! JUst plain fantastic! I'm going to have to get that, no matter what the price! I just bought the Eiffel Tower, I seem to have a thing for these awesome sculptures. To bad it's almost impossible to get a Statue of Liberty now... Nice box art, and the design on the dome is also notable. I would love to meet whoever designs these and give them a massive huge. The I'd take them hostage and hold them in some small underground chamber, where they would live out the rest of their days creating beautiful works of art for me to marvel at. You know that sounds a bit creepy, right? Oh yes, um, never mind, pretend I didn't say anything. You know, I worry about your mental health more and more every day. I worry about yours too. Same thing really. Yeah. I don't suppose there is any idea of a release date? I'm sure I have plenty of time to save up some cash anyway. Quote
Nikola Bathory Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 This is great! To be honest, I am not interested in such sets (like the Eiffel Tower etc), but still it's cool to know that such Lego sets exist. Quote
CopMike Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Pure love ! I´m so going to get at least one. I just love this stuff like Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty etc - big & beatiful ! The model itself looks well designed, here´s a comparison shot of the one made by Arthur Gugick that will be (destroyed ) in the movie Taj: If the price $299 is right it´s a bargain for 5922 pieces, could it be that white is a cheap color to produce? CopMike Quote
Holodoc Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 If the price $299 is right it´s a bargain for 5922 pieces, could it be that white is a cheap color to produce? The question is: Is it white or is it tan? Somebody mentioned a parts list. Where was that? And what does it say about the colors? For the set itself: Nice, but I would like to see more pics of course. I´m not as sure as most of the repliers here about the dome. Well, more pics and we´ll see. ... and I definitely have NO place to display it. Quote
welcomestranger Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I think the set looks great, and I hope that this in addition to the Eiffel Tower (and Statue of Liberty? I haven't seen that one) that we'll see large scale models of iconic buildings from all over the world... come on Sydney Opera House! :) Quote
CopMike Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 (and Statue of Liberty? I haven't seen that one) Statue of Liberty !CopMike Quote
Manta Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Holy Megablock!!!!! Thats awesome, I hope it's cheaper than the UCS MF or Death Star. Quote
Shadows Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Beautiful, and it almost looks lighted inside, which I know isn't likely at all, but if it was... For my money, the next landmark should be Big Ben. Quote
Virar Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 To me it looks about 58 studs wide, plus a couple of studs for the base plate. 4 32x32 stud baseplates, the same as the base of the Eiffel Tower. 50cm square by roughly 40cm high. It would look so nice next to the Eiffel Tower, if only I had space to sit them next to each other. It looks like it's Tan, which would go better with the blue, yellow and dark bley(?) "highlights" than if it were white. Quote
Ahchi Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 More info on this pic:- It is taken in an Annual toy-and-comic fair held in Hong Kong. The Lego counter placed 10189 and 10188 for pre-order. The price for Taj Mahal is HKD3,200 (Exchange rate USD1 = HKD7.8) and need to put HKD2,000 deposit. The stock will be available in late Oct. It is really shocking when I see the box!! (and of course I have placed an order :P) Quote
metalandi Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I'm confused..will 3200 or 2000 be the price? Anyway 3200 would only be approx. 270 euros, that's quite good! Quote
Karto Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 It may be 299$-349$ in the US regarding the 199$ price of the Eiffel tower and its 3000+ parts. Which means 350-400 Euro at S@H's 'exclusive' exchange rates. Note: Someone said that there were no royalties to pay like on the Star Wars stuff. I thought that those kind of buildings like the Eiffel Tower were trademarks. Atleast, the unknown Atomium here in Brussels actually is and a very expensive one. Quote
Zarkan Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Simply stunning! The detail looks awesome, and I love how they did the dome. It's really great that we're getting so many awesome exclusives nowdays, and I applaud TLC for making sets for the older crowd. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted August 5, 2008 Eurobricks Emperor Posted August 5, 2008 If this is minifig size I'll probably buy it. If it is minifig size and has an interior I'll buy it for sure. Quote
Quarryman Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 If this is minifig size I'll probably buy it. If it is minifig size and has an interior I'll buy it for sure. Hmm, at least not minifig scale, at 1:40 the tomb, which according to Wikipedia is about 55 meters wide would be 172 studs wide. Guess it might fit minifigs anyway, but we won't know until better/more detailed pictures become available. Looking forward to that. And a sidenote, at LEGO World Oslo one of the Creators designers who were there said the Taj Mahal looked absolutely amazing, and well, now I believe him. It does look absolutely amazing, this one I must have. Which could be something of a problem with no S@H in Norway, but something can always be arranged. Quote
baby Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Looks like this set will be the next biggest set from LEGO. Hopefully there is some interior in it since it was able to separate into 3 parts. Quote
