I don't like the set and I do like the set. The reason why I like it: it looks good. The reason why I hate it: this train was the first train for the new 9v system and it means to me the end of the beautiful 12v series. For this last reason I own this set. I voted average.

I've always found the 12V line the best ever made, basically because of its remote controlled accessories and the adult concept. Now, the 12V line was quite expensive at the time and as far as I remember, it was hard to find. It was only available at Christiaensens stores (in Belgium), which were already way more expensive for classic sets. The 7745 high speed train was near 10.000 BEF, which must be around 400 Euro today (including inflation). When the 9V line was introduced, it made trains and tracks affordable. That made me really happy :classic:

I see the Metroliner and the other first sets from the 9V line a little like the first Pirates sets (Black Seas Barracuda, etc.) as the best they have made.

Ah, I was hoping you would review it. It is a wonderfull set. I have the Legend version. (with the double-deck car).

I still can't believe you're going to use it as a parts pack, I could never do that with mine. :cry_sad: Oh well, I'm sure your MOC will be nice.

Nice review! :sweet:

Hairy Ruben, you don't have a review of the double-decker/club car on the way, do you? I myself never got it, and I am seriously considering buying one from Bricklink, plus it is more-or-less an requirement for this train (one of very few double-decker cars to actually stay within the general outer dimensions of the train).

I'll do a review if you want...

this is a great review and it makes me want to get a Metroliner even more, it's so hard to find a cheap one, because i bought a monorail for 180 pounds, I don't want to pay that much anymore.

On eBay a metroliner usually sells for around $100 - $120. There's one listed right now (current bid $82). That one comes with the box, station, and people (so it might go for more than $120, don't blame me if you don't win the item...). If you're in the UK you may be better off waiting for a UK eBay listing, to save some money on shipping. I think prices over there for used lego trains are not higher than on the US eBay.

I wouldn't bid more than $120 because with patience you should eventually win one for that price.

I's an excellent set, very well detailed and with some outstanding features, like the tables, the beds and the WC. And now I finally own one :)!
