I don't know why TLC is calling this a Factory Set as it clearly represents the first of a new American Graffiti licensed theme. Why? Because Harrison Ford demands more minifigs based on him, that's why!

Seriously, those are some excellent cars and should it prove within my price range, I may have to pick this one up (depending on how much blood I can ring from my stone of a credit card after the DSII inflicts its monetary damage).

I have mixed feelings about this set. It's definately neat to see Lego offering a mini-fig scale Hot Rod set with a garage. This reminds me a bit of classic town style. At the same time, take a look at this set released in 1994:

Here we are 14 years later, and the overall quality isn't as good (at least in my opinion). I'd rather see Lego re-release the classic as a Legend.

As far as the pros, the red car looks pretty nice. I don't know about the others. I'm not sure if I like the garage at all.

This set is marginal in my opinion, esp. compared to the Classic set pictured above.

Hmm, interesting-looking set, but if that is a preliminary image the SW torso may well be changed. Like the minifig seats used as mudguards. The price, as always, is the decider, though - and how long they plan on having the set available.

Wow cool set, wonder who designed this one! Is that star-wars piece i see? That will please alot of people i think.
My guess as to whom designed this set would be Mr. Zumbi.

Apparently this fine Polish builder is now a member of TLC design team - Yay!!

Mr Zumbi is very well known for his 'Hot-Rod" designs and builds, among many other wonderful MOCs.

I love it! They are beautiful cars! I don't like real cars much, but I always love minifg scale racers! :sweet: I really want this set.

Looking at his designs (amazing ones), it seems you could be right. :oh::laugh:

I totally agree with you, TheBrickster!

That's exactly what I wanted to say.

After having taken a closer look on the pic I decided to 100 percently not buy this set:

On the one hand it is great to see TLG being interested in the wishes of their customers to release more civilian stuff and more fan-built sets.

Civilian sets raise the playability and the authenticity of the whole City theme. So it's very welcome to see cililian sets appearing.

On the other hand TLG should in this case look a bit more after the quality of a fan-based set before releasing it since the Customers Cars are really looking "too custom".

The Customers Cars set is generally a great idea - but the result is  : The cars are way too big, the garage seems to include nothing and there is nearly no nice additional stuff - it is only reduced to the necessary  . And that's really a pity because the potential for a set idea like this one is much higher. But in this design you can get the impression to have a cheap playset for very little children which you can buy in every department store (some cars and a garage - do you know these sets?) and which aren't from Lego but really simple and cheap (meaning cheap quality, low playability and low realism, too). And I think that this is (hopefully) not TLG's aim!

Although I really don't like these two Factory Space sets I must say that they were much better designed (and with a much more "official character") than this set.

I personally would much more have prefered to see TLG releasing the 4999 Vestas Wind Power Plant than this simple set!

This set looks amazing. It's giant compared to the nice classic Hot Rod set from 1994, which was given to me while being in hospital due to tonsillitis back in 1994. Rolled in at over 200 parts, which was quite impressive for a medium sized set (in the 40-50DM or 20-25€ range)

The new cars look realistic, but for my taste they're a bit too wide. Being a classic city-addict. If the price to piece ratio (10 parts or more per Euro) is ok I'll eventually pick it up.

I don't think you're correct. It's a Factory set and they haven't been re-releasing sets. It is similar, but I don't think it's a re-release.

I'll merge this with the other 10200 topic just to keep the discussion in one place.

How could a set be a re-release, if it doesn't look anything like the old one? :hmpf_bad: I think you did choose the wrong word, a re-release would be if they release an old set again exactly as it looked back then, as for example in the legend series. More likely would be "remake", but it really looks very different. About 10 time smore parts i guess, and 3 cars, not least the building is completely different, and, and, and...

The cars are awesome, but i don't know about the garage itself, seems to not have too much interior. I'll wait till the instructions are up or somebody made a review, but in general it's

Oh boy, now I can make make my bravo resturaunt MOC with that tan...:thumbup::cry_happy:

I know this is considered Other Themes because it's Factory, but I really think it's a Town Factory set, so after all this time, I'm going to move this to the T&T Forum...

And now to really confuse people, I'm going to close this thread and ask everyone to divert the discussion to this thread. Thanks!
