tin7_creations Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I just stayed up all night watching the live broadcast of the Opening Ceremony for the Beijing Olympics (it's from 4am-9am in Canada). It was really good, all the acts were stunning, awe inspiring. Did anyone else watch it? Let's here some thoughts! Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I noticed that there isn't an Olympics thread on this forum, so why not use this one? If one already exists then please remove this topic, thanks! Quote
Skipper 24 Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I saw it in the UK it started at 12:45 PM and finished just after 5 PM. I though the beginning drumming thing was really cool because when the people drummed their lights on the drums lit up for the count down. Also all the fireworks were really good too. Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Haven't seen anthing yet, but: GO DUTCH GO!!! Let the games begin! Quote
Zarkan Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 No. Honestly, I'm not into the Olympics at all, and I'm especially indifferent to them this year. I personally think that it's a worldwide disgrace for China to host the games, with their corrupt goverment, poor human rights records, and bad treatment of their own people. I've read that entire housing blocks were teared down, with little compensation for the Chinese citizens who once lived there. Oh, and I also don't buy all that "China is changing their ways" bull. China is just trying to cover up what they've done until the games are over, and after that things will be back to their despicable ways. Quote

Oh yeah, whole housing blocks have been torn down because they don't fit the utopian metropolis that Beijing is making itself look like, and the ones that won't sell yet are just covered with green tarps. Not to mention the 'free Internet' that China promised back in 2001 just meant more censorship. Quote
Zaktan of the Shadows Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Right now I'm just happy Nastia Liukin won gold. ~Air Spirit Quote
Wouwie Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Hup Holland Hup Laat de leeuw niet in zijn hempie staan! Quote
hewkii9 Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Go Canada! Wait, we have no medals so far, and Kyle Shewfelt was kind of a disappointment... CBC interviews are hilarious. The athletes go on and on about doing their best and breaking Canadian records, imagine just how much they'll go on once we win a medal. Quote
DB24 Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Go Aussies!! The games have been great so far, Phelps is a machine we're sitting 3rd on the medal tally at the moment, which is awesome :D Quote
KimT Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Thank You Croatia for lending us your 49'er boat. No thanks to the rest for filing complaints Thank you judges for allowing the victory Quote
Opproperaar Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 (edited) Go Belgium go! Let's have at least one medal! We have no medals, however there are some young promises in our Olympic soccer team. The semi finals soccer are Argentina-Brazil and Nigeria-Belgium with Belgium being the surprise there The match Belgium-Italy was highly entertaining. I wouldn't have given them a chance against Italy, even if Italy's team wasn't the regular national one. I still don't think there's much chance for a gold medal in the soccer competition but still, I think we're good enough to end with a place in the final three. Skipper 24 Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 We were 3rd in medals yesterday but then the auzzies knocked us off. Go Britain although I actually want Australia to win! Quote
rriggs Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 We were 3rd in medals yesterday but then the auzzies knocked us off. Go Britain although I actually want Australia to win! GB only got knocked down from 3rd for about half an hour. Back in third again now. Unfortunately, my guys (Eire) haven't got any medals yet Cheers Rog Quote
