KimT Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Merge I've merged the topic on the plain Leia hair (buns) into this topic on rare Star Wars parts. Quote
Jango Fett Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) Hi there! I came across a picture of a princess Leia minifigure that was special in a certain way - the Leia had smooth hair! So I did some research and asked many other LEGO Fans and traders whether they had already seen such a Leia, or could help me out with some information about it. Leia with smooth hair (Bricklink) The result was that now I know where to find this figure - in the 10198 Tantive IV Set... thinking and thinking I am now asking me one question, if that leia appears in the Tantive IV Set is there also a Hoth version of that kind which is contained in the X-Wing? Has anybody an idea of whether this princess Leia minifigure also exists in the 6212 X-Wing Fighter? I would love to figure out, what it looks like, because then I'd have to find one for my collection. Maybe some of you know more that I do, maybe others have one or both of the Sets I talked about and can give me information about which leia was contained in their boxes... it would make me very happy to hear some 'news' Edited January 31, 2010 by KimT deeplinked Leia picture Quote
Dennimator Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Unfortunately no, it´s a mis-mold that was (and maybe still is) only in the Tantive IV set. Quote
KimT Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 The Leia fig in the 10198 Tantive IV Rebel Blockade Runner was this one: Apparently something went wrong in the production of hair pieces and the mismolded one appeared in some 10198 sete. Not all though, plenty of 10198's have the right Leia fig in them. Which is the one with this hair: The Leia fig itself (with the right hair) is available in the following sets: 10179 UCS Millenium Falcon 10188 Death Star Playset 10198 Tantive IV Just one for sale on BL, eh? JimBee Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Yeah, I thought they were really common, though. It looks like KimT's the only one who has one, though... and it's npt cheap either. Quote
Faramir Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 I have one, too. Didn't realize it's a valuable mis-mold... I got it from the Tantive IV, probably because I ordered it on the day of release. After seeing it in (KimT's)? review, I assumed it was just a new mold... Oh well, no complaints Quote
BlueDragonZ Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 I would prefer a princess leia without smooth hair as it got much more details. Quote
smokebelch Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) My Leia from 6212 X-Wing came with smooth hair, got it quite recently- last Autumn I think. Woah! Just looked at what its going for on Bricklink! Didn't realise it was so rare- the Leia in Hoth outfit isn't even listed on BL as coming with the smooth- def came in the X-Wing set though as Leia in her orig outfit is one of the few figs I dont own. Big Cam Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Misprint or not, there's more than a handful of them out there, check bricklink or ebay, if you really want one as a collectors item. Quote
KimT Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Misprint or not, there's more than a handful of them out there, check bricklink or ebay, if you really want one as a collectors item. Which is the only thing this'll end up as. I have one for sale on BL that is right. Would I pay that much for it myself? - I doubt it But some people collect defect parts, marbled parts or even every single Star Wars set that's ever been made in LEGO. Does that justify the price? Not sure, but checking the price guide on BL convinced of setting this price. It's all about how much people want this part. Quote
Darth Legolas Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) I hate mine. I don't know why you want one, they look terrible. When I got my X-wing, I was a little disappointed but okay. I was prepared to ask for a replacement part if Lego sent the bad hair in my Death Star, luckily they did not, and the entire set was in top condition. (Although some of the building had to be a little different because Lego updated their old ski poles to the ugly short and fat new ones.) Hold it.... I can sell it for $90? Now this is something to consider... Edited January 22, 2010 by Darth Legolas Quote
Bob Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 I got the smooth hair. It's probably because I ordered mine a few days after it came out, and the earlier ones had the smooth hair. I have both, and I've found that the smooth hair falls off of the figure easier, and is harder to keep on. Quote
JCC1004 Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 I order a replacement and have the smooth hair lying around. I'm thinking about selling the hair piece only but there is no BL page for it yet and I really don't know how to make one for it. I also have no idea what the a good price would be. But it is a strange (and ugly ) mis-mold that is a wanted collectors item. Quote
TheBrickDaddy Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 I have the hair piece too, and it's ugly. I got it with the Tantive IV, and I ordered mine early as well. Did someone say $90??? HOLY COW... i might have to sell it after all. Quote
RileyC Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Geez $90 is a bit steep. Thats probably why it hasnt sold. Consider yourself lucky if you got the smooth hair. Quote
Disturbia Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 My Leia from 6212 X-Wing came with smooth hair, got it quite recently- last Autumn I think. Exactly the same happened to me! It annoyed me, but luckily I had a normal version of the hair, so I swapped them. Quote

RoryoCox Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 I have the smooth hair as well and it is horrible As said before it sometimes falls off. It really doesn't look nice and I would give it away if I had a properly molded piece. Quote

CELESTRIAL Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Oh wow, now this really is interesting ! i assumed it was normal as well after seeing the review, i suppose not i just bought a sealed TANTIVE IV on ebay the other day, ill be sure to let you guys know weather i get a smooth hair piece or not. I cant believe how much people will buy things like that for do misshaped Lego pieces sell for that much ? I have a 1X10 blue flat piece that came in the Tie bomber set that's completely mangled Quote

For everyone who has one that they don't like, sell it on bricklink for a premium and buy 5 regualr hairpieces. Quote
Destroydacre Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 I purchased a Tantive at the beginning of February and it had the smooth hair, so either Lego has not shipped out their entire first production run of the Tantive or this smooth hair piece is still being made. Either way, it's not too terribly difficult to obtain, it's just only available in an expensive set. Quote
The Who Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 So do all Tantives have it, or is it just random? If they all have it, that might just convince me to buy one. Quote
