I agree the solid metal ones aren't really minifigs. The promos are all available to the public, and we've heard of people having the Lucas minifig. That makes R2-KT the rarest minifig.

Since Shadows has finally received his helmet, I'd like to bring this up again:

Anyone have a clue as to how these came into being? The helmet on the right on the ground. Notice it lacks the bulge at the back. I had two identical helmets like these, which I got from a sealed set. The other helmet is now in the possession of Shadows, and I'm sure he can confirm it's an official part. I'd just like to know if it's a prototype or something that found it's way into a set...

Ignore the figures. Yes. I know the one on the left lacks a fin. That is a custom I was working on at the time.

Oh, and does anyone have one like it?

A little late on the reply there, wouldn't you say?

I'm only 9 months behind! and in my defence we did have prelims of a Quinlan Vos minifigure.*

(note to self check the dates before posting)

*and think of better excuses.

FWIW

the red C3PO head was a rare/special part and was fetching like $70 and then subsequently was used on R3PO

( unusual for TLG to do this as with the green metal detector)

Hey guys...

Well, from what i know, there was a far deeper reason lego made these.

When star wars was first being made and filmed, Vader was originaly in a red suit :sceptic: , but lucas/lucasfilm, desided black was more evil, and mystroius. So they changed him to black. But lego had already made the mold and started making red vader helmets. But were very soon notified of the change.Somehow somone got hold of the very few made, and is asking HEAPS of $ for them

Hope this clears some stuff up

Wow, I never knew that. :sceptic:

I just thought that LEGO made a mistake on the production line and produced a red Vader helmet!

Wow, please tell me you don't believe this, did you not read the other posts directly after this one explaining that the Star Wars movies started filming around 1977 and LEGO didn't start to make Star Wars LEGO until literally decade later.

More than a decade. The fact about Vader being originally red could be true, but not about Lego already having the mold. :hmpf_bad:

Sheesh, Just having a browse and saw this topic. Man.. Can't beleive I posted that total garbage :sceptic: Sorry for that (even if it was ages ago  )

And well done to those with a bit more brainpower that noticed the illogical scenario

I think someone just shaved off the fin...

I know I can be quite thick at times, but I'm not that daft.

Here's an other picture of the back.

Slightly off topic: I had a dream today that Cafe Corner included 3 colors of Vader helmets *huh*

I have a question regarding this too: all of my old ones (from'07-'08) have a bulge, but the one from the 8091 Swamp Speeder doesn't (I have the Superpack). Has this happent to anyone else?

:laugh_hard:

Indeed almost 22 years later in 1999 the first SW were released.

Red is being used for prototype molding and test molding as it is easier to see any flaws in the mold when the plastic is red rather than black.

Nothing fishy about the red helmet, heck I even got a red Nute Gunray helmet that somehow got away from LEGO and was then purchased by me on net

That should end the discussion on red parts for good :sceptic::laugh:

Never had a closer look at my clone helmets, I might eventually, but right now the entire lot is packed and awaiting the sale of my appartment.

I think it's a test mold colour.

When TLG tests their molds they tend to do it with a colour not used later. Hence the red Vader helmet, black ghost, trans clear ghost and so forth. You can get a red helmet for 30USD+ on bricklink.

As I already replied in post number 2 of this entire topic.

I can already imagine the Star Wars funnies that are going to be made with that. :iamded_lol: So glad I never bought that part; I would never pay that much for a single part just because it is in an unusual color, at least not with my budget.

I've been recently offered up a LEGO Red Prototype Vader of which there are very, very few in existence (apparently).... and I was wondering, is this an actual item?

I see this coming up in search results:

"A red version of Darth Vader's helmet was produced by LEGO for mould testing; however, it was not included in any sets. This colour version is available via Bricklink, giving it the liberty of being considered an official LEGO part. It is the exact same part as Darth Vader's helmet, except it is the colour of red."

Picture:

Does anyone know if this rumor is true? He also mentioned he has a blue prototype Darth Vader, one of three in existence.... I'm struggling whether to believe this or not, and wanted to ask you all about it before I potentially sink a lot of money into something that may be fake. If I'm not almost completely sure about it, I obviously won't buy it.

What do you all think?
