purpleparadox Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 I do know that red prototype Vader helmets exist. I'm not sure about the blue prototype, though. Is the seller someone you can trust? Do they have a good reputation? The fact that they're offering a prototype that might not be real (the blue Vader) worries me about how truthful they're being with the red prototype. Quote

Well, I know the red Vader helmet exists, however this guy is offering me a FULL figure. He says it's a real entire red prototype Vader minifigure. This guy is a VERY large Lego toy seller, and has been doing this for a long time. So he's picked up lots of different LEGO items over time, many rare... He's offering it to me for trade though, so I need solid proof it exists before I sink a lot of money into something that may not exist. Quote

Can't he take a picture and send it to you, or better yet, a video? A video of him holding the figure would be way more trouble to doctor and color red, which he could do if it was a picture and he's lying about it. Quote

Clone OPatra Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Of course it could still be a fake, but it's always good to ask for documented evidence of it before you spend money. Quote

Yes, that's what I was thinking... and that's ultimately the problem. Until someone on here can say, and provide proof, that this is a real item, I don't know what to think. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 I would ask for high quality images of both colors of helmet, including the inside. You'll be able to tell then if at least those are real. Quote

I don't fully understand what you mean. Could you elaborate? I'm meeting the guy in a few days, and will ask to see it then in person. However, if I decide it is authentic, I want to have some type of bid ready to go on it instead of being completely un-prepared. I'd also want someone else's opinion besides my own on if it's real or not. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 It will be obvious from the helmet whether it has been moulded officially or not. If not, certain subtle characteristics will be wrong. I can't tell you what exactly those might be since I don't have the piece in front of me, but a fake might not have certain little numbers inside by where the head stud fits in, or it could have a rough place where it was broken from the mould. Fatteh Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Well, I know the red Vader helmet exists, however this guy is offering me a FULL figure. He says it's a real entire red prototype Vader minifigure. I'd be wondering what constitutes a complete red Vader figure. Is the torso printed? Why test print on a red torso? Or a red head? Is it sporting a red cape perhaps? That would be entire and entirely suspect. Quote
CopMike Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 He also mentioned he has a blue prototype Darth Vader, one of three in existence.... I have the red helmet. And a blue and a yellow one also. The picture is from this years Eurobricks Collaborate layout at Brickworld Chicago - check out the .I also wonder what he means by saying the whole Darth Vader in red? Good luck and if you want feedback us here on how it went! Quote
Spider-Man Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Were all those official LEGO pieces? Why would TLG test in so many colors? It looks hilarious with them all sitting in a circle like that though Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Why would TLG test in so many colors? We are lucky that, in the end and many many colour test, TLG decided black was the best color for Vader's helm Quote
Spider-Man Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 (edited) Why would they use any color besides black for Vader's helmet? I know they have to test the mold in a cheaper color, but there is absolutely no way they would have put red or blue Vader's in sets. TLG made LEGO Star Wars way after the movies came out, so there would be no real reason to choose a different color. Edited July 19, 2012 by Spider-Man Quote

Red is actually a more expensive color of plastic than black. Quote
Shadows Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 There is no way that they would bother testing an entire figure, he's either wrong and believes it's all authentic, or he's ... wrong. We'll just leave it at that. The helmets all exist, however. I have the red helmet. And a blue and a yellow one also. Sometimes you make me cry. They would be manly tears of joy, but let's face it, they aren't, they're tears of OMG... Quote

I was more referring to this quote: We are lucky that, in the end and many many colour test, TLG decided black was the best color for Vader's helm I know that they test to see imperfections, I just don't think that we should consider ourselves 'lucky' that we have black Vader. If Vader was any color other than black people would throw a fit. Quote

Spider-Man Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Got it! I was a little surprised by that I do look forward to seeing this 'all red Vader' however! My guess is decals on a red torso with a red cape! Quote
samiam391 Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 I'll be talking to him on the phone tonight and will request a picture and/or video of the "FULL Red Vader" and hopefully his blue one as well. Looking forward to it as much as you all are! Quote
samiam391 Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 (edited) And after all that, it turns out it is JUST the helmet and not a full body figure.... Which he apparently dished out about $500 for! :-O Edited July 22, 2012 by samiam391 Quote

samiam391 Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 He's a collector (like me)... thing is though, you can get them on BL for $75 I think and there's about 5 or so available. However, if those are real or not is another question... Quote
