Oky Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 (edited) the penguin toy looks *somewhat* like a minifig. it's difficult to make out, but you can see it right above the batman logo at the bottom of the display. Yeah. I'm crossing my fingers in the hope of it being a real minifig in a brick-built mini sub! I don't have a Penguin yet! I think (and hope) they look like that for art purposes; remember how the figs look on the video boxes? In real life, there would be no way that a minifig could move like that, but it looked cool. I think you are misunderstanding something here, Jim. Unfortunately, these toys aren't part of the picture - they are the actual toys put on a Gotham Bay background! Note how the toys aren't affected by the white reflection of light too much. It seems to be a picture of one of those showcases that they have in the restaurants. And since you're right about a minifig not being able to move like that, it is proven these are no normal minifigs. Besides, they are way taller than the vehicles, which wouldn't make much sense if they were normal minifigs. Edited August 30, 2008 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
JimBee Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Oh yeah, I see what you mean. The figs are really that way because they are toys attached to a cardboard poster... what a shame... Quote
VBBN Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Ugh, if lego isn't going to make the dang things lego, why make them at all. Quote
hollisbrick Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 I'm pretty disapointed with this I was hoping for actual MF's... Mayby the heads are real and they fit normal figs? I guess I can hope Still I might pick up a Joker, because he is awsome Quote
Pencoin Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 I'm confused as to why anyone thought they would be actual minifigs anyway? Guess I was right. Quote
Adverse Camber Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Ew. Look at the Mcdonalds Happy Meal Page. Big robin with crappy launcher thing. And Batman with an odd arm. I hope these promos end up being real LEGO... The original link now has a photo on there of all the sets. The figs have strange posed legs too Quote
trooperdavinfelth Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Oh good gracious, just HOW retarded does McDonalds get? This is shameful and embarassing to Legos. I DEMAND this topic be locked. Quote
Batbrick Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Oh good gracious, just HOW retarded does McDonalds get? This is shameful and embarassing to Legos. I DEMAND this topic be locked. Exaggerate much? No, I'm pretty disappointed too, but they aren't all bad. Batbrick Away! Quote

The Brick Rat Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I know LEGO would like to break out of the stereotype of being a "boys toy", but they're not getting any help from McDonalds. Whereas the current Star Wars promo is offered for both sexes, LEGO Batman is being paired up with Madame Alexander Wizard of Oz dolls. Anyway, a few observations: In the photo you can see a pair of pink legs from the Madame Alexander dolls display. Comparing them to the Batman figures suggests they are about the same size. My daughter got a couple of the Wizard of Oz dolls when McDonalds offered them last year. Going by memory that would make the Batman figures about 4 inches tall. I know alot of folks are hoping that the vehicles are brick built, but if you take a close look (esp. at the Joker-copter) you can see that they are one-piece toys molded to look like they are made out of LEGO elements. Finally, while the penguin fig might look like an actual minifigure, it is almost certainly affixed to the submarine. I'd guess that it's action feature is pushing down on the Penguin figure fires a 'torpedo' from the sub. Quote
The Rancor Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 They are one-piece toys molded to look like they are made out of LEGO elements! Who the Hell is madame Alexander, and how many times does the Wizard of Oz need to be reproduced? I should really stop posting in this thread, because I won't be able to even get the crappy toys! JINZONINGEN73 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 (Only sees pic with Batman, Robin and top hat guy) Funny... the Oz promotion has a top hat guy too. And a Mr. Freeze lookin' guy. I dunno... from a business standpoint, I can see why Lego doesn't want actual, buildable "sets" in Happy Meal toys. Because duh, mom and dad can just go, "But we already BOUGHT you a Batman Lego set, at McDonalds!". Likewise, the small parts often involved can also be a legal issue. Now you make a FIGURE with hardly any parts and no buildable surfaces and both bases are covered. Still, they SHOULD at least put one larger, totally Lego part in there that can be built with... in this case, like a bat signal with 4 studs on it or something, ANYTHING. If these figures are a few inches high, that'd be kind of cool, like mini statues. I mean shit, if one can justify buying a cold-cast porcelain statue of minifig X-Wing pilot Luke, then why not some smaller plastic, action-shot depictions of Batman? Quote
trooperdavinfelth Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 (edited) Exaggerate much? No, I'm pretty disappointed too, but they aren't all bad. Batbrick Away! I suppose... But really, now that I think of it Jinzo is right. Why not justify getting these if you justify getting one of the maquettes? But really(again? ), the maquettes cost 40-50 dollars, if not more, am I right? What makes these worth getting in a happy meal for no value at all(healthwise and moneywise )? That's what I wonder... And that's very interesting what Jinzo said. These were made from the game, right? Well, so were the apparently incredibly valuable Star Wars maquettes. WHAT makes these worth so LITTLE? Remember the Stormtrooper maquette? EDIT: Server messed up my presentation. Anyway, his arm was like this backwards: | L___ Like a big L, and that's how it was in the game. And who complained about that? No one after they realized they were from the game in which characters can take any position possible. That's why Batman has an 'odd arm'. But I still echo my question(third time standing!): WHY ARE THESE VALUED AT SUCH A LOW COST? Edited September 1, 2008 by trooperdavinfelth Quote
Dadster Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I'm gonna at least wait until I check them up close. They may not be exacting copies of minifigs, but they're supposed to be fun and geared towards kids who (typically) could care less. (Aimed at no one in particular...)If you don't like it, don't buy it/ try to acquire it. Yes, you're entitled to your opinion, but my goodness - let it go. They're Happy Meal toys. Just my 2 cents... Quote
Brainbox Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 No, I'm pretty disappointed too, but they aren't all bad. I didn't really get my hopes up much in the first place, so I'm not all that bothered. Sure, they're not great, and they're not actual Lego. But, if they had been, I'd have wanted them all, and that would probably have been difficult (for me at least). At least now I don't actually have to go to McDonalds. Quote
Norrington Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 oh god why do those figures look that way? if you cant give something good then give nothing at all!! Why is the Joker dancing? Well, as many have said, the penguin looks like a fig. Heck, I see studs on his submarine. That batmobile type thing could be brickbuild too. Quote
Pencoin Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Eat it up guys ( ) these things aren't brickbuilt at all. Quote

simonjedi Posted September 5, 2008 Author Posted September 5, 2008 Close ups here: http://www.happymeal.com/en_US/standalone....mp;ID=#BoyIntro sorry, doesn't look to be brick built. :( Quote
Andrex Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 (edited) At first I thought them repulsive. Yet whilst there may be very minimal Lego floating around in that case, I quite like these. I know they're not genuinely minifigs, but at least they look like their in game counterparts. Admittedly the game was based upon actual minifigs, but ah well. These figures can do things that the video game characters can and the minifigs can't! So there are some bonuses at least. -- Andrex Edited September 5, 2008 by Andrex Quote
JimBee Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Now, why would they sell a product based off of Lego if it's not Lego? A really dumb idea... you know there are toys for little kids, so the choking hazard can be disregarded. Besides, what 10-year-old is going to swallow a Lego piece? ...well I guess they would, since one of my friends swallowed a Risk piece on purpose... Quote
Oky Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Now, why would they sell a product based off of Lego if it's not Lego? Because they aren't! As many have said before: These toys aren't based on Lego - they are based on a videogame with a Lego look to it! And for that, they are well done I guess. Still, looking at those demos Simonjedi posted, I'm not so sure anymore if I want to get any of these. They looked like they would at least be cool to display, but now... meh. Idk. Quote
hollisbrick Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 These arnt...as bad as I expected Might get the joker one and thats it. Btw is it me or does the Joker have a normal and new head Quote
