SavaTheAggie Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 My Town Gallery I've loved the Town Plan Cinema ever since I laid eyes on it. But I never liked its overall small size, and it's "doll house" style, without the fourth wall. So I decided to upgrade my cinema to the Cafe Corner standard. Changes include: Wider, taller, added second story, expanded screen room with 15 more seats, added projection room, fourth wall, lights under the marquee. Dunno when I'll be able to order the parts to finish it. --Tony Quote
BillytheKid Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Good job. I keep that in mind if I buy this set. Quote
LegoFranks Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Cool, I did the same thing with my town plan cinema, only mine has a PSP as its screen! Also the screen is at the back of the cinema... Might try and upload some pictures later. I must say though, getting those light blue bricks is an absolute pain! Not as bad as the lime green I needed for part of my Victorian Terrace though! :oS M. Lt. Col. Thok Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Very nice, I agree: the cinema is WAY too small. Good job, I hope to see more pics of this project. Quote
Holodoc Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 So I decided to upgrade my cinema to the Cafe Corner standard. Cool, I did the same thing with my town plan cinema, Funny - I was planning something similar... in the future... whenever I have time... Nice work, Sava. A true inspiration. I would like to see the cinema next to the other modular buildings. Quote
Kingboy Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Funny - I was planning something similar... in the future... whenever I have time... I think a lot of people were planning that Doc. I know I was even before I got this set. You're approach is a bit different then what I had been planning Sava, but I think it's a good bit easier than what I was contemplating, and looks really good to boot. The whole thing reminds me of a local single screen theatre nearby, which has always had a certain charm to it vs the megaplexes (not the least of which being they server beer there ). Quote
Fatespuppet Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I've always wanted a Cafe Corner style theatre and when I saw the town plan I apparently had the same idea as a lot of folks. I never gave it a shot due to the limited availability of that blue. Now it appears it will be in even higher demand. This is an excellent build though. I might give this a shot but change the colors. Quote
dougidle Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 That's really nice - I like it a lot. I like the way you've continued the use of the cinema colours. Like a lot of people I also had the same idea but I was going to make mine look like a converted old building. It'll be all gray apart from the cinema front... here it is at the moment: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dougidle/2420493457/ At the moment it's only a front and it needs a lot more detail to be added. I've got a couple of projects on the go at the moment but this is my next one. Cheers, Doug Quote
NewRight Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Great upgrade. The Cinema looks so much better. Thanks. Quote
SavaTheAggie Posted August 22, 2008 Author Posted August 22, 2008 Thank you all for the kind words. Don't worry about the increase in the price of medium blue bricks - all the extra medium blue bricks I used to build up my Cinema, outside of a small handful of 1x1 bricks, came from my local PaB wall, where large quantities of 1x2, 1x4, and 2x4 medium blue bricks can still be found. --Tony Quote
LegoFranks Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Yes, it's a shame PaB at Bluewater is utter tosh... No medium blue, no lime green and certainly no grey tiles of any sort! :o| M. Quote
JopieK Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Well I guess those colors will become less exclusive one day. That is always a problem with standard sets, that they are so small, but a little bit strange that it is the cinema problem as well since it is quite expensive! Nice upgrade at least. Quote
Asuka Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 A very good and impressive work. The interior´s very well done too! Quote
alex54 Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 You've done a really great job with this cinema! I like the way you have made it bigger, and keeping the original design! The interior looks really great too! Quote
Tacitus Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Very nice. It is a much needed upgrade of the original cinema. I actually decided not to get that set because I was annoyed that the buildings were so "doll house," as you aptly put it. Quote
Darth_Legois Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I saw this on FlickR earlier I wish I could do this but I have hardly any Light Blue pieces.... And my 10184 is on lay-by.... Quote
samthelegoman1 Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 (edited) Great work! Now only if someone upgraded that crappy church Edited September 25, 2008 by samthelegoman1 Quote
Siegfried Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Wow! That is just stunning. It still retains the look of the original too. Quote
