Governor Mister Phes Posted August 20, 2008 Governor Posted August 20, 2008 I found some bigger pictures here: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=337708 No pictures just yet please. Also note we prefer images to be no larger than 800 x 600 as not everyone has a fast Internet connection or a wide screen monitor. As you can imagine someone on dialup would be spending hours waiting for the thread to load. Quote
Algernon Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I LOVE the pirate ship! The lanterns, the mast, the detail on the deck... I'd almost buy it if it wasn't for the rumored Space Police. :D Quote
Wes Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I can't really decide whether I love these or I hate these. I look once and these are pure brilliance. When I take another look I think it's <insert that tiresome argument> rubbish.Exactly what is junior about this at all? We have the SYSTEM cannons, normal yellow minifigs, and both colors and construction styles that are pretty similar to the original pirate theme. Quote
metalandi Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 (edited) yes, the ship and the soldier castle aren't <insert that tiresome argument> in a single way, honstly. As far as i can see, there ar mostly normal piecs, which are used in many sets these days. Edited August 20, 2008 by metalandi Quote

In reflection, though, that's pretty much it. I don't really like the new skull and crossbones, but there's nothing I can do about it. I do love the fort, however. metalandi Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 What's <insert that tiresome argument> about the shark? it's just bigger than the old sharks we all know, that's all. but you can also open the mouth of it. Just one question, maybe i missed something in the past years, but are those 2 pieces new? I actually never saw these before: Edit by Hinckley: pics removed. Please pay attention. Mister Phes already requested no pictures to be posted yet. Thank you. Quote
NerdFighter Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I guess the shark isn't <insert that tiresome argument> very much, but I just feel that it's bigger than it needs to be. The old one is perfectly good. Quote
Moose Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 i must say, A+ job lego. not only for the look of the sets, but for how you went about them. Just enough old pieces to remind everyone of the old sets. The design of the sets are very reminiscent of the old ones (the ship has netting positioned eerily similar to one of the older ships) enough so that the older generations will come back, and new enough for the younger generations to come in. Then once everyone is hooked, the next waves will come out. While some aspects of the set are sketchy (aka juniorish ie sharks and loot island baseplate) the overall aspect of having pirates back and the quality of the sets outweighs any downside. im going to be poorer than i already am. and with those city sets.........its going to be one mighty expensive year Quote

I Agree, I dont really like the new skull either or the new sharks heads, they are alright but I rather the old ones, Still, They are minor setbacks for an awsome lin!! Quote
metalandi Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I did! But the question if the by me above mentioned pieces are new is still open Quote
Scouty Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I did! But the question if the by me above mentioned pieces are new is still open Well, I think the torch and dynamite piece certainly are! I'm not 100% sure on the flame piece, but I'm pretty sure it is! Quote
Norrington Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I'm not going to keep harping on about this, but this ship is ugly. I'd rather we just get a reissue of the BSB or something. Quote
Moose Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I wouldnt say the ship is hideous, its just different from what were used to. It looks so very similar yet so very different from the older ships, but i cant quite put my finger on it. i really like the deep red and yellow color scheme. if anyone can figure out what i cant put my finger on as the difference, lemme know please. maybe its that some more modern pieces are included? on a side note, does the figure head have a new mold for her tail? if so, might this lead to a new faction? from my knowledge, lego doesnt make a mold for a piece that appears in one set. so maybe this new tail piece is hinting that we'll get a mermaid faction? kind of how islanders were a side, maybe the mermaids will be a new side group. i dont yet know how i feel about that idea Quote
Dovchenko Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I'm not going to keep harping on about this, but this ship is ugly. I'd rather we just get a reissue of the BSB or something. No offence Norrington, but yeah right. The BSB will probably remain an old Pirate ship and that's it. I'd be happy if these sets got cool names, like they used to have. The ship I can agree with, it's <insert that tiresome argument>. It makes me kind of sad, I wondered how'd they'd do the ships. It's not bad, if I were staying for 2009 I'd buy it in a second... but still, the excellent back part of the ship seems to be the only true build. Otherwise, it seems to me like this set will be a bit too <insert that tiresome argument>. The Smallest Set is perfect, I don't see how it could be any better. The Second Smallest is good, but I too wish the Kraken was better (even with a stupid name like Kraken Attackin) The Third One looks terrible, dumb island and a build which... well, even I don't get what it is! The Fourth One looks good, like I said before, <insert that tiresome argument> but still neat. The cabin's great, the ship hull pieces, masts and sails however are not. These are just rehash 4+ pieces from what I can see. However, I do like that figurehead and the figures overall. The shark from Agents unfortunately is here, too. The Fifth One is the strongest, being the second largest (next to the ship). Looks great, nothing really wrong here. However, that third shack in the back looks useless. What's it for? It's an open building with a slanted brick roof that frankly looks pretty ugly. Otherwise, great. Quote

The Green Trooper Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I found new pictures on brickshelf-awesome : Pirate 2009 Pics on Brickshelf! No Posting These Pics Please! Greetz G. Trooper Edit by Phred: Added BS Link and Note Quote
Algernon Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Exactly what is wrong with the new ship? It's the only set that I'm even tempted to buy at all. Quote
Nikola Bathory Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 That was already posted in the other topic!! Quote
snefroe Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 i believe EB's been asked to not post the pics, so an admin, or the poster might want to remove them... Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I don’t know what I’m more happy about, that we get a new pirate line or that the shako is being made again! Finally my troops will be able to have some head gear! Generally I’m fairly happy I assume the sets will be tweaked and improved a bit before relapse but otherwise I look forward to the entire new line, though I suspect it’ll turn up at Bluewater during Christmas whatever the release date. Nikola Bathory Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Well, it's too late - once something leaks, it's all over the internet! Quote
Moose Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Treasure island looks terrible, but i want because of the soldier and the guy with the beard is one of my favorite pirates to date. the other pirate aint bad either, but the rest looks extremely cheaply done Quote
snefroe Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 the best thing that can be said about the pirate theme is that it'll push down prices of high demand parts, like shakos, cannons, pirate figs,... as for the rest, i think they did a pretty good job. Expectations were always really high and many were afraid we'd get low quality, high playability sets. It seems to me that the sets aren't really brilliant, but they don't disappoint me either. they're a nice compromise between lego's options and the public's dreams... the fact that we do get pirates in 2009 should be the main thing, it's ok if it doesn't produce the best set of 2009. it is true that the ship is conservative in design. it looks like a copy of the old ones, but then, those are still insanely popular, so who's complaining anyway? i don't really care much about the smaller sets. they're not great, but not bad either. they look like general pirate sets to me: fillers for a theme that is going to be based on a big pirate ship and the large fort... in general, Lego designers did a nice job with this theme, but i don't think it'll have the best sets of 2009. it almost looks as if pirates never went away after... what was it again? 1994? it's as if time stood still, i'm willing to except that for the first year but 2010 better has stuff that's a bit more innovative Quote
highlandcattle Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Sweet! I'll probably get all sets that include soldiers (except for the boat, I was never a fan of sails). I hope they will release some more army builders :) *twinkle* It all looks a bit <insert that tiresome argument>, but I'm still loving it. Quote
