The Cobra Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 CONSTRUCTION: I don't like the large construction set much at all Nor do I. But, thumbs up to the Minifig collection and the 4wd w/Horse trailer. 7634 is good too. I was surprises: no hospital / emergency / Coast guard sets. But this is the Jan/May catalogue, so we me have some more sets coming out later, just like it happened this year. Quote
BigDumbWookiee Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I LOVE the farm stuff. I thought there was a rumbling about trains? Was I mistaken? Quote
Brainbox Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Wow! Farm sets... I loved everything farm-machinery related when I was young, especially tractors, so that one at least is a must get. I rather like all the farm sets actually. That torso in the tractor set is especially neat and, well, we get official cows. Seriously, the tractor is really neat, it looks fantastic. The horsebox looks quite good as well, and the 4x4 in there is cool as well. The combine harvester isn't bad either, and the farm is pretty cool as well. I'm not sure about boys not going for the farm. I certainly would have done. I mean, tractors are effortlessly brilliant aren't they? The minifig pack is good. Besides another policeman (but he has an interesting head, so I'll let it slide) they're all cool figures, with some neat heads and torsos. The Construction sets are a mixed bag really. I rather like the little digger thing, and the dumper truck isn't bad, but the steamroller... Godd idea, less good in the execution. Not overly fussed on the larger construction sets either. They're not bad, but neither are they fantastically brilliant. It certainly looks to be a good year so far though. Quote
The Cobra Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 (edited) @ BigDumbWookiee You're right, Legomilk's list (somewhere in the news forum) had Trains too. Keep in mind that there are some pages of the catalogue that haven't been scanned yet (so far, Creator, City and Racers only; we're still missing Star wars, Castle nad the new Space. Also, Train is a theme on its own, not a part of the City theme) Edited August 20, 2008 by The Cobra Quote
BigDumbWookiee Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Looks like the pictures have been taken down? Quote
Pencoin Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 No I belive hes adding pictures of the rest of the catalog (Agents please!) Quote
Freddie Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Hmm. I'm not really feeling the urge to get the sets that I usually feel whenever new pics are leaked. The construction site is nice, except for the crane, which looks... bland. I like the new construction vehicles, though. The farm is nice, the vehicles obviously the highlight of the sets (nice details that with the tractor eqipped with the outer wheels at the back). The SUV with the horse-trailer is overall excellent. And then there's 8401 - about time! And this time there's more civilians than workers at a ratio of 3:1, which is excellent. Quote
Skinny Boy Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Yes the folder is currently not public, so somebody must be updating... with new pics? Hopefully. I think the only set I will buy is the horse trailer, just for the great jeep. The rest are ok. Finally there is a construction site where something is getting built but I already have a better crane, though the green truck looks really good. Quote

Skinny Boy Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 A new classic town set!!! http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/lokosupe...ay/p1000901.jpg . Ohh, the mechanic has patricks torso. What a waste. Quote
Zzz Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Ohh, the mechanic has patricks torso. What a waste. this is only preliminary, so you can be sure he will get his own personal muscle torso! Back to City: I simply LOVE the farm sets. And I cannot even say why. The Landrover looks too sweet and I like the cows a lot! The building vehicles are a bit too big, 7631 is the best for me so far! Oh, I like this time of the year the most! Best time right after january.... Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I have to say I think there’s something very wrong in Legoland the amount of construction crews is beyond belief! Do they keep having natural disasters or are they just tearing down old sets? On a more serious notes I think they’re probably the best construction sets we’ve had from Lego for a long time, I personally like the larger size it’s much more realistic in my opinion. As for the far well what can I say but I can’t wait to buy the combine harvester just so I can start a topic with the title ‘I got a brand new combine harvester An' I'll give you the key’ though that wont mean much to most people here. The rest of the sets are also very well put together it’s nice of Lego to make something outside the usual city sets. I must mention the Land Rover which looks black and rather expensive, much like most Land Rovers I encounter. Though the size of it does make me think the Chelsea tractor debate has now entered the Lego world. Quote
BigDumbWookiee Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 With farms coming to Legoland, we really need some hoppers and box cars to go with our trains... Quote
Joebot Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 "Green Acres is the place to be! Farm livin' is the life for me!" Finally, finally, FINALLY, TLC comes through with some System-scale farm sets. The vehicles all look really, really great (although that combine is ginormous). I'm a little disappointed in the buildings in the main farm set. They're very skeletal, and don't really look like a barn or a stable. The accessories are awesome though. And cows!! They look a lot like the BrickForge cows, which is kind of a shame for the BrickForge guys (although I'd imagine the sales of their awesome pigs and sheep will sky rocket). The construction sets ... wow. They're big. Really, really big. The scale is simply too out of whack with my own Town layout, so I'll probably pass on these, but I can't help but be impressed with them anyway. And that "City Life" set, or whatever it's called, with the townspeople and accessories, is a really nice little set. I'd love to see more sets along this idea. If the early 90's were the Golden Age of Lego Town, we have to be entering the Silver Age, right? I mean, geez, TLC is just knocking it out of the park right now. Quote
metalandi Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 A better pic of the farm set: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/lokosupe...ay/p1000934.jpg I don't quite get what pieces the roofs are built off of..are those 8x16 plates but without studs?! Never saw that bfore, it looks a bit strange, though. Maybe that's what makes the set look a bit <insert that tiresome argument>. Would look much better with plates that have studs, imo. Quote

Yep, I'm pretty sure it's the 8x16 tile. That piece has been around for a few years. It probably started with the NHL Hockey sets. It's a bit lame to see it used as a roof piece, instead of using roof slopes. Quote
BatonMedved Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Nevertheless using usual pieces in unusual flatness is better than simply adding ready roof piece. and it gives more space inside, creating interesting roof effect near the top. Quote

Do they keep having natural disasters or are they just tearing down old sets? Not to mention the ridiculous number of firemen and policemen. If the early 90's were the Golden Age of Lego Town, we have to be entering the Silver Age, right? I mean, geez, TLC is just knocking it out of the park right now. Which means that soon all the old sets will be written off as an alternate universe... That farm really is quite nice. The cows look great, and the tractor with the digger-bucket is cool. I notice we've got red and blue for the tractors, the definitive tractor colours, which is good. The buildings are less good, but they're not bad. With a barn, a grain tower and a stable they've covered all the bases, really. I can also see a brown ladder, and a tan fedora, whcih is good. I knew they'd end up using the fedora elsewhere. Although... the figures are perhaps just a little bit stereotyped... the man with the fedora especially. Quote
metalandi Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Oh, seems i missed that piece Anyway, it's most likely never been used in any system town set before. It's not that i hate it, but it just looks strange to have such a big piece without studs as roof. But let's wait until next year, i assume many of these ar just prliminary pictures and maybe they change that. Quote
