QuartermasterRobert Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 OH HELL YEAH. I AM A HAPPY CAMPER RIGHT NOW, WOO! Here's my impressions: 6243 Blackbeard’s Pirate Ship THE GOOD: -Female blouse! Finally, some more civilian friendly costuming. -Mermaid legs. Now we don't need to use those darn Harry Potter ones. -IMPERIALS YAY IMPERIALS. -Overall the pirate torsos are nice and varied. -Multicolored parrot! -Good color scheme overall THE BAD: -It's small :[ -It's a bit <insert that tiresome argument> -The shark is kinda weird -NOT ENOUGH MINIFIGURES :[ 6242 Imperial Fort Battle THE GOOD: -Looks to be the best set so far. -Is totally old school -IMPERIALS DAMMIT. -Again, nice character variety -I love the tattered flags THE BAD: -Kinda small -NOT ENOUGH IMPERIALS :[ -Doesn't include the female... 6241 Treasure Island THE GOOD: -Is also oldschool -Again, fun pieces for the pirates. I love the shipwrecked shorts. -TREASURE IS SHINEE THE BAD: -Baseplate is weird -A catapult isn't really threatening... and the Imperial boat lacks oars lol -Could use another tree... 6239 Battle with cannons THE GOOD: -ALSO OLDSCHOOL -Army builder! -Again, the pirate design is good. -I love the little rock thingy for the pirate to shoot out of -New map design! THE BAD: -Could've used a plate... -Cannon needs a horse. -Could've also used a dihngy. 6240 Attack of the Giant Octopus THE GOOD: -Raft isn't too bad -Again, loev the pirates themselves -Parrot! -Spyglass! THE BAD: -The octopus is... transparent. -Could've used a few more doodads. Quote
Dreamweb Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 6239 - the one with the cannon What I like It's a great army builder - a pirate, a soldier and a cannon The plants are also a useful thing for land-based Pirate MOCs The little slopes on the top of the grey structure - great additions to many sorts of MOCs What I don't like The cannon should have small wheels, like the ones in the old sets - for easier use in MOC ships I'm not too happy about the pegleg - if you use this as an army builder, you'll have too many pirates with peglegs Quote
JimBee Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 6243 (The Ship): What I like: The figs- I especially like the female. The masts- they really are beautiful What I don't like: The nets- I just don't like them The rowboat- way to <insert that tiresome argument> for me. 6242 (the fort): What I like: The figs- they are really great! Accessories- see above What I don't like: The huge wall pieces- <insert that tiresome argument> pieces... The rowboat- see above 6241 (the island): What I like: Figs and accessories. What I don't like: Rowboat, island- <insert that tiresome argument>!! 6239 (cannons): What I like: Everything- new telescope and flame pieces! Capt. Bluebeard Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 (edited) Here's my opinion on the two Impulse sets: 8396 Impulse set (the one with the soldier): Three words: ARMY. BUILDING. HEAVEN. Seriously though, it has everything you could possibly need for an army (including the much-missed backpack). Needless to say, I'll be buying loads of these! 8397 Impulse set (the one with the pirate): Unfortunately, with every good thing, there comes a bad. The campfire looks rubbish (couldn't they have used the campfire from 7624 Jungle Duel? That one was at least realistic), the pirate is ugly and you only get one weapon (a pistol), where as in 8396, you get three! The other stuff, such as the snake and the crate, isn't really all that exciting. Bluebeard, out- Edited September 3, 2008 by Capt. Bluebeard Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 6, 2008 Author Governor Posted September 6, 2008 Overall What I like The return of the Imperial Guards. The red torso looks much better than the white torsos of their precedessors The torso design itself is a suitable upgrade. [*] The return of the old Imperial Guard flag design. [*] The decision to bring back the old style firing cannons [*] The new elements such as telescope, dynamite, etc. What I don't like The designs are passable but they're definitely not as good as they could be. BaronSet's Puerto Brico and Oo7's Imperial Powder Magazine demonstrate there are still designs which employ SYSTEM asthetic and look fantastic. The new Pirate Flag - the Jolly Roger (Skulls and Crossbones) looks someone alien. The original design was far superior. The prospect that the brick design on the fort walls are going to be stickers. The new shark - the old sharks were just fine. Quote
legotrainfan Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 (edited) 6243 The Ship What I like Firing cannons New torsos. I especially like the female minifig. Two masts with sails. There could have been only one mast. Two factions. Great overall look of the ship. A banana for the chimp. Parrot in a new colour scheme. A little crane to lift treasures. What I don't like The skull and bones on the sails. A new shark. Why did they create a new shark? Imperial guards come with a new torso design. The torso design of the old imperial guards could've been used for continuity's sake. Edited September 7, 2008 by legotrainfan Quote
Zzz Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 LIKE - "civilian" minifigs like shipwrecked guy or the girl - shark - colour of the new cannon - soldiers (except head) NOT LIKE - unfinished sets - island piece, blue rowboat, hull pieces - more crocodiles than sharks - minifig heads - not enough detail in the sets, and this hidden by strange colours and new parts Quote
