Hi, I just got three new summer Indiana Jones sets  and figured hmmm... three... hmmm... Wait! That's how many sets you need for the Academy! I would like to join this fine establishment!

TBD

Note- I just noticed that the initials of my username are To Be Determined... that could get confusing. :hmpf_bad:

Unfortunately, since svelte_corps has already reviewed all 3 of the Indiana jones sets I bought, I will have to hold off on joining the Academy. Mabye I'll re-enlist later in the summer when I have the time.

TBD

I just finished my review of 8970 Robo Attack, and would like to use my remaining Agents 2.0 and new Castle sets to finish the course at the Reviewer's Academy. Is there room for me?

Now, Bonaparte had given you access.

Go inside and found us. It's right at the top. :classic:

Do we have to join the academy to actually review? (I say this because of my WIP Combine Harvester MOC)

What else would you do in the academy?

I believe he meant are you allowed to Review without being in the Academy?

and I believe the answer YG-49 is Yes! You can... The Academy is there for those who want to learn how to review sets in a more professional and informative way.

The tutorials and teachers in here can have you pumping out high quality reviews in no time, I highly recommend it.

I'd like to join. My Master's in English, but I'm not the world's greatest Lego set reviewer and FAR FAR from the world's best photographer. I've been wanting to start doing reviews but felt I needed a little guidance, so this should be perfect!

Oh, I didn't get the question. You are right, everyone can post reviews. The academy is optional.

No offense of course. But really come on, it's embarassing to call this "reviews". You must talk about every aspect and this is NOT the case.

I write about 2 reviews a week (about games) which contain at least 750 to 1250 words per review. Also with pictures.

So what I'm askin' is: Please make a text with the reviews. More explanation about everything and the value about it.

And again: No offense, but I just want to improve the way of reviewing...

I'd like to be a part of the Reviewer's Academy. I'm looking mostly for help with my LEGO photography, but tips on effective reviews are also a great thing to have in my repertoire.

Perhaps you should join the Academy and/or post a review in the style that you would like to. However, I find that the review done in the Academy certainly give us LEGO enthusiasts a good idea of what is in a set and the value of it, and then we can decide whether to buy that set or not (or just have some nice nostalgia, if it's an old set). Svelte's recent reviews of the upcoming Indiana Jones sets certainly cover the sets in plenty of depth as to inform me of their content and let me decide if I want them or not.

Reviews of LEGO sets do not need to be as long or wordy as reviews of games because just a few pictures can easily show you what is in the set, whereas it is impossible to get the gist of an entire game (especially video games) without playing it or without a lot of in depth description.

Call me someone with a short attention span perhaps, but I would rather not read a review of a LEGO set that has 1000 words, just some detailed pictures and a few thoughts will suffice for LEGO.

But by all means, show us how you would do it!

I find it very interesting.

Could you share your thoughts with me and the fellow teachers? First of all, what are those areas which are not covered in any of our LEGO Reviews from Eurobricks or Reviewers Academy. Most of the time, I will speak with the students and advice on their structure inside the academy. In this case, I will share the basic plot of a typical LEGO's Review structure. Below is my own style of writing a review. Do note that this is the basic skeleton of my review structure and its subjected to expansion.

On the other hand, I do look forward to your reviews. I always encouraged my students to write more and more. I am sure some of them whom are familar with my teaching knew what I refer to.

  • Reviewer's Introduction
  • Set Information
  • Set Background Introduction
  • Instruction Manual and Polybags
  • Sticker sheet
  • Highlighted parts/assortment/accessories
  • Spare parts
  • Minifigs' highlights
  • Building process
  • Different Angles
  • Playability Mechanism
  • Complete Set
  • Additional enternaiment
  • Conculsion
  • Ratings/Summary Review
  • Brickshelf Link

Aren't our LEGO Reviews filled with text and pictures? If you are looking for wordcount per review, I could give you a confident answer that 70% of our reviews have a minimum wordcount of 750 words.

These are some of the recent reviews written by both teachers and students. I had used Microsoft Word processor to verify and saved a copy of its pure text format. Below wordcount does not include any headers, ratings, links except pure written content and thoughts. If you need a copy of the text documents for individual verification, I am glad to drop you an email with its attachment.

SET 6241 Loot Island (Written by WhiteFang) 1421 words

SET 6755 Sheriff's Lock-up (Written by Clone O'Patra) 1782 words

SET 7197 Venice Canal Chase (Written by svelte_corps) 1481 words

And again: No offense, but I just want to improve the way of reviewing...

I appericate your honest feedback.

I have been signed up since the beginning, but haven't made any reviews yet. Once my desk is cleared (about 1-2 months) I should start my first review (Boeing 787). Just thought I'd keep you guys informed.

I'm game for this.

I can actually meet all of these requirements.

I'll be getting some new sets soon, and I'd love to practice with 'em!

I'd also like to be considered for membership, if possible.

I mainly purchase (and build) Technic and Creator sets, and these would be the subjects of my reviews.

I meet all the requirements, and my photography is OK, but there's certainly lots of room for improvement.

Thanks.
