Zarkan Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Lego Batman cartoon spin-off being made! This was really out of the blue - but I'm actually liking the sound of it. Hope this turns out well! Quote
tin7_creations Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 it sounds really interesting... is it going to be a 30 minute cartoon or 10 minute shorts? Quote
Zarkan Posted August 29, 2008 Author Posted August 29, 2008 Well, they said in the article that they're aiming for a 20 minute cartoon - which comes out to 30 minutes with the commercials added. Quote
Pencoin Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 <twitchs> 2009, the best year in mankind? Quote
Batbrick Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 This is the best news ever. Period. They're making a cartoon based on a game which was based on a Lego series which was based on the comics. Win! Seriously though, I hope this goes well enough to make it to DVD, I'd love to see it as a fun but somewhat respectful series which paid homage to the Batmythos. Batbrick Away! Quote

A Lego cartoon, any Lego cartoon, is great. But a Lego Batman cartoon? Wow... I really hope I'll get to see this. It says it's a US cartoon, which means if it does make its way over here it'll be on one of the digital/cable channels... which I don't have. No matter however, as for now I'll revel in amazingness that is a Lego Batman cartoon. Quote

Exactly, in the words of every movie villain who died shortly after saying this: "It's more beautiful than I ever imagined!" I really hope I'll get to see this. I'm hoping a series of enough episodes to make a season, I want to get it! If it doesn't air there or here there's always youtube remember? Hopefully it does though, or maybe they even hold the episodes on their site like some do. Anyway, this also gives me hope on more sets next year. Batbrick Away! Quote

Did it say it was one 20-30 minute episode with the possibility of more in the future? I don't know, I can't remember, and I can't be bothered checking. Ah of course, the wonder of Youtube. Anyway, this also gives me hope on more sets next year. Well it would certainly be odd to have a game and a cartoon, and a 70th anniversary and no new sets, wouldn't it? Quote
Batbrick Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Did it say it was one 20-30 minute episode with the possibility of more in the future? I don't know, I can't remember, and I can't be bothered checking. *Reads Again* It's cofusing, he starts off saying a Lego Batman Series, then as a one off initially he quotes, which could og either way as a one-off show or a one-off ep. Not to mention he uses the word cartoon as a plural and just a meaning for one. I'm getting this impression: One ep first followed by more following what will obviously be a success. Ah of course, the wonder of Youtube. I was under the impression there would be more than one, a few twenty minute eps I read. And I swear Youtube will get its own religion in a few years Well it would certainly be odd to have a game and a cartoon, and a 70th anniversary and no new sets, wouldn't it? Oh yes, things are definitely looking up. Have oyu read that reply from that designer as well? Batbrick Away! Quote
The Brick Rat Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Did it say it was one 20-30 minute episode with the possibility of more in the future? I don't know, I can't remember, and I can't be bothered checking. It said they wanted to do a series, but were initially only going to make one 20 minute cartoon. I suppose that's because they want one episode to shop around to potential network carriers. I'll be interested to see how this pans out. All official LEGO animations that I can remember have the characters using grunts and pantomime to advance the story. If they want this to succeed on television, they are going to need strong plots with actual dialogue (Kevin Conroy for Batman! ). Well it would certainly be odd to have a game and a cartoon, and a 70th anniversary and no new sets, wouldn't it? It would be odd indeed. However, I wouldn't put anything past LEGO. Quote
Brainbox Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Oh yes, things are definitely looking up. Have oyu read that reply from that designer as well? The one form over on Legions of Gotham? If so, yes, I have. Good news indeed. All official LEGO animations that I can remember have the characters using grunts and pantomime to advance the story. If they want this to succeed on television, they are going to need strong plots with actual dialogue (Kevin Conroy for Batman! ). I'm not so sure. I think it works because they can't speak. Personally, and this is just me, I like that they don't speak in the games and such. It gives them a character beyond the voice. Plus, that means that when we're playing with our Lego (hey, we're all just big kids really) we can put whatever voice we want to it, rather than have a set one. However, I wouldn't complain too much if they got Conroy back. It would be odd indeed. However, I wouldn't put anything past LEGO. Yeah, good point. Quote
VBBN Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Awesome! Hopefully this brings Lego batman sets back! Quote
Oky Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Interesting. I don't know if I can believe this or not, but it's all over the net, so there must be some truth to it. Like many of you, I am both excited and sceptic about this. I am quite curious about the whole dialogue/no dialogue thing and about how deep the stories will be. But if this is going to be anything like the Treehouse animations or the videogame cutscenes, it should definately be entertaining. Then again, will it be entertaining enough for several 20-minute episodes? We will see... Quote

But I also believe that if they want to make a tv series that fits into a half-hour time slot, it's gonna need dialogue. Without dialogue I don't think it will fly with American audiences. Actually, I don't think any networks would touch it. Personally, I think they should make it without dialogue and present it in one of two ways: 1)As an online series in 10 - 15 minute episodes. Much like Josh Whedon's recent 'Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog'. or 2)On television as short 5 minute 'filler' episodes. Like the animated Star Wars, The Clone Wars shorts that played several years ago on Cartoon Network (or was it Sci-Fi channel?). Quote
Shoc Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Hmm, I'm sure I heard this before I went on holiday, like three weeks ago... Anyway, it sounds cool, the Licenced Lego games have great animation and scenes, so this would be really good, especially since it involves Batman! It probably won't be around in England, but as Batbrick says, there is Youtube! :skull: Quote
Batbrick Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 The one form over on Legions of Gotham? If so, yes, I have. Good news indeed. That's the one, good news that hopefully rings true. Plus, that means that when we're playing with our Lego (hey, we're all just big kids really) we can put whatever voice we want to it, rather than have a set one. I'm indifferent over it. If it's shorter then I'm all for non-speaking characters and the ensuing fun. On the other hand though, if they are twenty minute shows, then definitely get voices for the characters I say, Lego is all about imagination, so it's not a huge stretch to imagine a few good ways to do it. However, I wouldn't complain too much if they got Conroy back. Conroy is the king! That would be so cool if he did return. Awesome! Hopefully this brings Lego batman sets back! It's looking promising. I agree with you. But I also believe that if they want to make a tv series that fits into a half-hour time slot, it's gonna need dialogue. Without dialogue I don't think it will fly with American audiences. Actually, I don't think any networks would touch it. Agreement there, it wouldn't fly with a lot of people. Personally, I think they should make it without dialogue and present it in one of two ways:1)As an online series in 10 - 15 minute episodes. Good ideas there, especially the online ones, I'd love to download them. Ultimately though, and I hope I'm not alone on this, I think I'd prefer a twenty minute show with voices. Brainbox Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Without dialogue I don't think it will fly with American audiences. Actually, I don't think any networks would touch it. Yeah, I guess. Some people just don't 'get' Lego. That's the one, good news that hopefully rings true. Touche. Conroy is the king! That would be so cool if he did return. Changed my mind, get Adam West instead! Good ideas there, especially the online ones, I'd love to download them. Ultimately though, and I hope I'm not alone on this, I think I'd prefer a twenty minute show with voices. To be honest, I'd watch it whatever. I mean, it's possible it'll be like the Bat-animations on the official website. They were done without dialogue and they were still pretty cool. But I still want a proper full-length cartoon. Quote
Oky Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Yeah, dialogue would be good (especially with Conroy!). Then again, there are some episodes in 30-minute shows like Samurai Jack which didn't have any dialogue either, and they still had great action and storytelling. Quote
Fire_Mario Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 I gave myself a high-five when I first heard this. Man oh man, this is gonna pwn. Quote
Flatfoot Thompsen Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 I don't know how that would work since none of the characters in every LEGO video game talk. But, LEGO cartoon? SWEET!!! Quote
Wilhelm screamer Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 I gave myself a high-five when I first heard this. Is that even possible? *brain overload, self destruct activated* Anyway... This sounds very promising. Quote
