graham g Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Hi After probably 25 years of not handling a Danish designed brick, the arrival of our first son has triggered an upwards spiral into the World of Lego. Addicted as a child and then dismissive as an older teenager (these new computer things were far more interesting) I'm now seriously back in the fold. I'm, still struggling to comprehend all of the acronyms, I still can't work out what MOC means, but I'm starting my first one soon (our house). So please treat me gently and let me make a few mistakes as I meander around the forums making a fool of myself. For a start, is it OK to ask questions about how to achieve a certain look in a model, where to buy parts (especially bulk packs of things like roof tiles etc)? Anyway I hope to be able to contribute constructively (!) over the coming months. Take care Graham Quote
Scyzoryk Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Welcome To Eurobricks, Graham! We hope you enjoy your stay here. And don't worry, we all make mistakes sometimes. If you want to know what MOC means, it stands for My Own Creation. Quote
rriggs Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Hi Graham and welcome. You don't say where in SE Eire you're from? I'm originally from New Ross (Co Wexford) although now living in the UK. Cheers Rog Quote
brickzone Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 (edited) Welcome Graham! Good to have another Irish contributor! If you're looking for getting hold of roof tiles without having to order online and wait for them to arrive - there's a €15 pack of red roof tiles (set 6119) available, although so far I've only seen it in Art & Hobby in shops here. Alternatively the Tan Lego Creator house (set 4954) is a great source of black roof tiles and tan bricks - it is available in Smyths for €55 (link). Edited August 29, 2008 by brickzone Quote

graham g Posted August 30, 2008 Author Posted August 30, 2008 Thanks for the warm welcome. Scyzoryk - thanks, appreciate that - there needs to be an AFOL translation sticky page in the Forums! :-) rriggs - I'm living not too far from there near The Rower. Was in Dublin for ten years before and originally from Derbyshire. brickzone - thanks for that. I saw that in Windsor and again today in Byrnes in Waterford (which amazingly had stock that dates from 2002 sitting on it's shelves) I'll be plunging in at the deep end soon as my MOC takes shape! rriggs Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 I'm living not too far from there near The Rower. Ah sure, I know The Rower. Just on the wrong side of the border if I'm not mistaken! I've used the R700 thousands of times on my to and from Kilkenny. Nice part of the old country - But just a bit hilly for my liking!! ...there needs to be an AFOL translation sticky page in the Forums! :-) How's this? EB Glossary Cheers Rog Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Welcome to Eurobrick, I hope you have a great time here. Quote
legotrainfan Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Hi and welcome, Irishman! You live in a nice country! I was there in 2006! If you want to buy bricks, you can go to www.bricklink.com, where you have to register to create an account. Registration is for free. Or you can buy bricks through lego.shop.com. Go to "Pick a Brick" there. Or you can simply phone the LEGO customer service - I don't know if Ireland has one - and order the pieces you need there, but you have to give the LEGO employee a description of the elments you want. That can be quite challenging. I usually check peeron.com for the element number. Then I tell the LEGO employee to go to peeron.com and type in the number of the brick I want. So I can be quite sure they are sending the right bricks. Again, welcome! Don't hesitate to ask when you have questions! Quote
Norro Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Welcome! Great to have another Irishman about! While I'm on the subject we're trying to start up an Irish Lego group. Please drop by if you're interested... Irish Lego group... God Bless, Nathan Quote
