Hi everyone,

I love MOCing, but am not very good at the SNOT windows you see on some of the best builds. I'm trying to MOC one of my local pubs in Whitstable and am having huge difficulty doing the windows. Needs to fit 10 studs along, with no real height restrictions. Link of said pub attached...

Any help would be of HUGE assistance to me, so that I can learn!

Cheers,

M.

A very simple rule regarding SNOT'ing: Five plates on top of each other equals two studs in length. Basically, five 1x2 plates on top of each other will shape a perfect rectangle. For a 10 stud wide window, the window construction you're looking at will need to equal 50 plates, or 16 bricks and two plates.

When placing your window, remember to use tiles where the window will be placed, and either bricks with studs on the sides or technic bricks with half pins to attach the window to the walls. There are many possible methods of placing a window in such a manner, and you will need to experiment towards the solution you like best.

well, you aren't the only one that is trying to design windows I guess... Bill Gates has also tried it for years without being very succesful so it must be a hard job I'm afraid ;)

Sorry, couldn't resist seeing your topic title.

Unfortately brickshelf doesn't seem to be using an AND search but still it isn't difficult so find quite some ideas of others:

I would love to help you with this, but I'm getting an error when I click that link...

Is it one set of windows (one wide window with two smaller windows above) that is to be ten studs wide or is it both?

Probably because it was a real life pic of the thing I'm trying to MOC...

:o|

I'll have to open a Flickr account or summat!

EDIT: Well, here goes nothing! http://www.flickr.com/photos/16575376@N07/2815764650/

Well, it is a nice pub! But maybe the old windows (<1980) can also be used for this?! Those large 3 x 6 ones and 3 2 x 3 ones on top of that?!

It's the whole window array, yes...

And JopieK, as my signature states, I have no Lego from my childhood. Everything I have is post-1997! If you could give me a link to where I might find said windows on Bricklink, I might see if my purse strings go that far!

I was thinking you might be able to use 2 of THESE directly above 1 of THESE. There are tons of window types available on bricklink, but some can be pricey.

2 sets of those would make the entire construction 8 studs wide.
