What's the unluckiest country in the world for a lego fan?

That's easy, Arntartica ofcourse. (the south pole):grin: There only are scientists there and if one of them is an Afol, It's is not easy for him/her to buy some new lego in a country I don't believe have even a shop.

But now serious, In the Netherlands we have shop@home, but no brandstore. And we have (mostly expensive) toyshops were most sets are available. So it's not that bad in the Netherlands.

Like Norro and Dragonator said, NZ is pretty bad.

We do get most of the smaller sets, but we're lucky to see many of the larger sets, and if we do, only 3 or 4 will appear momentarily before never coming back.

Being a BIONICLE fan, last year I had major trouble finding any of the larger sets released in the second half of the year. Only one smaller store had them all stocked in decent numbers, while major toy stores got only a couple of the larger sets. This year it seems to be worse, because the store that I got the larger sets from last year only knows about the smallest of the large sets for this year's line of sets, so I doubt I'm going to be able to get any large BIONICLE sets from stores near me.

It’s an useful topic since I thought that Russia is most neglected by TLG county but now I see that it isn’t.

Nevertheless we didn’t get any Indiana Jones last year (there were rumors that it was due to anti-Russian context of the movie, but we got some sets this year, so I doubt that that was the cause), we didn’t get any Mars Mission-08 either, there were not Aqua-raiders in 2007, no SpongeBob ever, and there’re a lot of other sets that aren’t being officially delivered in our country.

There’s no S@H, only 1 shop with very limited pick-a-brick, so I bet you’re already getting that we have a very close world of fans when It’s almost possible for AFOL’s to be acquainted with each other in whole country.

Australia seems to only get City and Creator sets, with a fair amount of Star Wars sets as well. Though stores really like the pirates sets now they've returned (we love our pirates  ). Anything else is touch and go; you usually find only 1 or 2 sets from any other theme, if you're lucky.

Finland has strange unavaiblity for some sets, like in Agents 2.0 line we don't get Robo attack or River heist, but others normally. Also we we get only one set in third wave of Batman, no 1st or 3st wave of Spongebob, and no Bionicle 2009 vehicles and Tuma (not sure about Cendox.) Luckily we still get most sets.

I would say North America is actualy the best for stocking them. They mostly are best on S@H, but TRU and Target are plentiful.

TRU is plentiful, but also unsettingly expensive. :hmpf_bad:

But I would agree that N. A. is the most plentiful and Target is one of the best places to buy other than S@H.

Another vote for Serbia

Bigger sets do not appear here, nor the unpopular themes.

Prices are funny, approximate 2.5 times more expensive than on Lego site.

But, Bricklink is saver! Mainly 90 percent of my lego supplies comes from BL. Thank you, Bricklink

In Australia, most of what happens is dictated by the huge power a handful of retailers have (Target, K-Mart, Big W, David Jones, MYER, Toyworld, Toys R Us). Those big retailers do things like:

Hold back new sets (either because they have too many of older sets to clear first or because they dont want the new sets until a certain date due to sales, school holidays etc)

Buy (and have on the shelves) LOTS of stock of crappy sets (Racers, Bionicle, Clone Wars) and NO stock of good sets (some new Creator, Space Police III, Indy)

Secure exclusive rights (or limited-time-exclusive rights) to sets and themes (Space Police III, Wind Turbine Transport, new City, new Castle, Pirates, Spongebob)

Remove sets from the shelf just before a sale (I have no proof this happens, just anecdotal evidence based on what I have seen)

A question that may or may not have been answered already. How come lego has such short release times of their sets? How come they don't sell sets indefinitely? I am sure if they still offered older sets through some sort of special order system (so that they only produce when ordered) there would be plenty of people still wanting to buy them.

And what does S@H stand for? I know TRU is Toys R Us.

How come lego has such short release times of their sets? I guess, they think if a set doesn't sell now it won't sell next month or six months from now.

And what does S@H stand for? Shop@Home.

Back on topic: today (September 1st), a friend of mine found the 2009 June-December Italian catalog. In Switzerland.

Sets that Italy will miss: (a '*' means this set isn't available to Italy even on S@H).

Space Police III: 8399 K-9 Bot, 8400 Space speeder, 5972 Space truck getaway*.

City: 7747 Wind turbine transport.

Agents: The only 2008 sets still in the catalog is 8635 Mobile control center. That probably means "grab the old sets while you can."

Star wars: 7754 Home one blah blah blah It did not make the catalog, but it hit selected shops!

Just like 2008, there are tiny pics of both Advent calendars. It would be nice to actually find them in Italian shops, which hardly happened last year.

Hm, legoshop castle product line just added "The Knight" impulse set onto the shop page, but as sold out. Why did they add it back to the shop page? If they start producing more, I am going to buy like 30 of those.

And here comes complaining time... well, not this year!

2010 Jan-May Italian Catalog

I have to say that most every new set is there (except the two SP3 sets; full 2010 line should be available later in the year. Still, no Impulses), but lots of 2009 is gone:

No Castle at all :hmpf_bad:

No Agents at all (I don't care if I can't own a single set from this theme)

Few Pirates sets (I already bought what I wanted to, plus there's some still around)

Few Power Minsers set (see above)

No Bionicle except the 6 new sets (hooray!)

No 2009 Tiny Turbos

If you look at the last page, you can see there are three brand new Italian sites. Actually, there WILL be three new Italian sites (domains not working and Italian only available in the Atlantis site)

I think both of these are not just italian problems: :classic:

- Castle isn't there because of the new Castle line coming out in the summer. Old Castle sets will probably be on the shelf still for months.

- Agents is over.

I am not sure but I believe that many of these "hard to find" or shop-exclusives are not usually included in catalogs but then can be still found is shop chains which have some special deal with TLG. The 7747 has never been in any Finland catalog, but you can find it for instance in the shop chain BR. The question remains if any italian shop chain at all has made such deal for this set and other shop-exclusives.

BTW, I would certainly not vote for Finland, where I live, as worst place for buying Lego: the set availability is almost total and the prices in retail shop are fine. Furthermore, it's quite easy here to find almost any Lego set you want with at least a 20% discount if you have patience (I myself have yet to buy my first Lego set that was NOT discounted!).

On the other hand Finland is probably the worst place for the Exclusives, since there are no Lego brand shops, so you need to get them through S@H which has the highest prices of the world (like 200e for the Fire Brigade or the Imperial Flagship).

Overall I think Finland is a good place for Lego fans, except that I have yet to find any AFOL club...

I'd say the same, you just have to learn where to look for sets (Citymarket, Stockmann, TRU) and where not to look (Prisma). Only downside I can think of are the high prices at S@H and which you mentioned. As for the AFOL club, I think the closest equivalent is probably Palikkatakomo, which I wouldn't have found myself if I hadn't ran across the name in a list of new ambassadors...

Hi!

I travel to Israel quite frequently (work). LEGO-wise, I consider this a developing country.

Really? I haven't found any LEGO-builders in Israel actually.

Really? I haven't found any LEGO-builders in Israel actually.

I'm Israeli, and Lego is really overpriced here. Brickbeard's Bounty, for example, costs more than 700 Shekels (about 200 USD instead of 100).

The little impulse sets cost about 25 to 30 Shekels (6 to 8 USD).Israel also has no LUG (as far as I know) or Shop@Home.

It's been a long while since the I last complained. Let's see what Italy is NOT getting in 2011:

- the new cargo train 3677

- the limited edition police sets (Police chase and Bank & money transfer)

- The Cannibal escape from PotC.

- Alien conquest (yes, the entire theme)

- Pirate plank

- Spongebob

(All of the above are available from the official Lego Shop and other online retailers, what would we do without the Internet?)

On the other hand,, we ARE getting a couple of Ninjago books, 4,90 Euros each, but the catalogue comes with with a 1 Euro coupon for one of them.

Costa Rica must be one of the first in the list. It seems like a bookstore here has the "monopoly" on Lego, so they literally double all the prices. They don't even bring all the cool Lego sets! We need an official Lego store here. :classic:

I understand you. Same here on Guatemala, prices are high and there is not much diversity of sets.

In fact some sets are triple of their original price, we surely deserve a Lego store for Central America.

By the way nice to see another latin here.

Greetings. :classic:

No exclusives in Indonesia like the modular houses, the 787 dreamliner of 2008, everything in the Exclusives line is very very hard to find.

The time the sets arrive is also delayed, ussualy 2 months off the US and Europe release time. For example the City 2011 Police sets arrived in the US in December 2010 or January 2011, and I saw them here in February 2011. The harbour line of Summer 2011 arrived in August 2011 then the May 2011 US got.

Price is also ridiculously high. The Passenger Plane 3181 of 2010 is 39 USD and it is 600 Rupiahs here, equivalent of 70 USD. The Passenger Train 7938 of 2010 is 130 USD and it is 2 million Rupiahs here. Equivalent of 200-250 USD.

One more thing, the triple the price for Duplo, let's compare the 3365 Moon Buggy and the Duplo vet set. Box size is same. Duplo has less pices than the moon buggy. Price for 3365 is 90 Rupiahs which is 10 USD. Vet costs 130 Rupiahs which is 15 USD.
