I don't know if persons from the lego company ever explore bricklink, but I would just like to put this idea out there - I'm a huge fan of the Star Wars & Castle themed sets, and am a little dissappointed by the return to the Pirate theme in 2009 instead of an Elf theme - but what would be the coolest would be a Romans vs. Egyptians History theme or Greeks vs. Mythological Creatures Theme like greek minifigs fighting Medussa, The Cracken, The Hydra, etc. - there is just a weath of material there to draw from - this is at least a new idea instead return to the Pirates

While I have no complaints about more Pirates sets, these are great ideas!

But there has been a variety of both historical and mythological themes, or at least sets. Thus far we've seen Vikings, Ninjas, ancient Egypt, South American mythology, Chinese mythology, colonized India, Native Americans and cowboys and who knows what else!

Perhaps we'll get a theme from the classical antiquity sooner or later. I wouldn't mind seeing Greeks and Romans legofied, but we still have to remember that TLG's main target audience are children below the age of 14; historically accurate sets would probably not sell well among them. :sceptic:

But if they treated Greco-Roman mythology like Disney did with the movie Hercules, the company could have a new hit theme on their hands.

A mythology or proper ancient history theme (esp. Greek, Egyptian or Meso/South American) would be the best! I've always thought that would be great!

What's this to do with Bricklink?

If there is an Elf theme it would be a sub-theme of Castle, so even though we get Pirates we might still get an Elf subtheme in Castle, we don't know of next year's Castle sets.

But... The Egyptian sets, as great and ancient looking as they are, weren't set in ancient Egypt - they were set in the 20th Century. And... We got South American sets, but where was the South American mythology?

:skull:

Well, like Shoc said, don't count out elves yet. We already have some great evidence that they will be the main focus of this year's castle sets - which is the best place for them to be.

Yes, that would be awesome! There's tons of ideas that could be done in a theme like that - giant Greek structures with Greek soldiers and gods fighting against the army of Hades. We could have Hercules, the Hydra, the Titans, the temple of Zeus - etc etc etc. It would make for a great theme and would combine all the great elements of a normal history theme and a mythology theme. :sweet:

I don't think it would be necessary to use Romans though - most of their main myths are just copies of the Greek myths.

Great ideas. It would be cool to see mythical creatures!!!

Whew!--I keep hearing about 2009 sets, but no reference to the castle theme. After hearing that the castle advent calendar won't even make it to the U.S., I really started to worry.

Back to topic--many of us would love a Greek or Roman line. The idea of using mythological creatures as foes follows the strategy used with the viking line (less human-on-human violence). Something I'd love to see would be the seven wonders of the ancient world done similar to the Eiffel Tower and Taj Mahal sets. They wouldn't be minifig scale, of course, but they'd still be sweet.

I guess we just have to hope that the Playmobil line of Roman sets sells really well and Lego picks up on it.

Back to off-topic--does anyone remember the Asian adventurer sets? There was a temple accessed by a wooden bridge, the yeti set, and the dragon emperor's castle--all which seem to tie in with the latest Mummy movie (saw it last night). All that was missing were the dragon boats. Coincidence?

I have to agree that pirate and elf sets aren't mutually exclusive. However, I'd love to see some ancient mythology sets. Obviously it's wishful thinking, but an entire run of sets could be made from Homer's Illiad and Odyssey alone. Trojan horse, cyclops, sirens/ship, etc. etc. Lego wouldn't even need to spend any time on the war aspect involved, and could focus simply on the fantastical.

With this, an historical Greek/Roman series could be quite exciting as well. Coliseum and gladiator sets, a town series of ancient buildings, 7 wonders sets, etc.

Yar! Don't be wishin' away Pirates ye scurvy dog! :pir-hmpf_bad: I think Roman or Greek soldiers would be cool but with Castle already out there it would be a poor business decision. Perhaps they could be another Castle faction but that would begin pushing the number of warring factions too far.

They do have have a lot of history sets, and that's not bad. I'd like your idea of mythology, it'd be awesome. Let's hope TLC picks up this idea.

While having mythology sets would be awesome, If we're going for history, why not just go with Britons vs Saxons, Carthage Vs Rome, or Persia vs Greece...

Mythology is great, but seriously, do we need another line of people going up against monsters, It's a reoccuring lego theme that sometimes doesn't Continue over a year... :cry_sad:

I think that TLC has listened to some of our 2009 ideas, we shouldn't swamp them over with new themes... New themes = less sets for other themes, for example Castle or Space.

Can't we just be happy with the Return of Pirates!:sing::thumbup:

I really wish the TLC release a theme of greeks v.s. mythological creatures, the first thing that come to my head with this is the God of War series :cry_happy::thumbup: , I want the TLC release something like that but obiously more "peaceful" .

Uh, BWK, the Kraken is pretty Scandinavian for a Greek theme.

Still, those would be awesome themes.

I always wanted a theme like that! Mainly Greece Vs. Mythological (lol fancey word) creatures! Although we have had a lot of mythological stuff in some of the themes, a whole theme based around that we be bloody awsoem
