optimus-convoy Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 I've recently been having an unhealthy obsession with Final Fantasy, mainly VI. So I thought, why not put that obsessiveness into something good, like a MOC. For those of you not familiar with the game, it's sort of a mechanical war machine that enables the user to use magic (A technique long since forgotten). Anyway, to the pics! My newly created Flickr or Good ol' Brickshelf Questions? Comments? Criticisms? Quote

Sandy Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Looks (final) fantastic! You really have an eye for details. Now if only you'd make a Terra-minifig to harness the armor... Quote
Pencoin Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Thats great, doing anymore FF mocs? That reminds I need to finish my FF7 moc. Quote

Thats great, doing anymore FF mocs? That reminds I need to finish my FF7 moc. None in the near future, but I would like to make some custom FFVI minifigs and a Blackjack or Falcon some day... Looks (final) fantastic! You really have an eye for details. Now if only you'd make a Terra-minifig to harness the armor... Yeah, Terra was the original plan, but I just couldn't think of an appropriate fleshie head/body scheme for her without decals. That and the fact I have no blond ponytail hair. Quote
Sandy Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Yeah, Terra was the original plan, but I just couldn't think of an appropriate fleshie head/body scheme for her without decals. That and the fact I have no blond ponytail hair. Why does she have to be a fleshie? I'd use that classic red woman's top from Paradisa/Cit-theme for her, with red pants and a red cape. And blonde ponytail is really cheap to get - I got one from the set that has 50 different headgears. But if you want to stick to fleshies, I believe there's going to be a red female outfit for Willie Scott in one of the next year's Indiana Jones sets. Quote

I think when it comes to licensed themes, they tend to help represent the characters they're based upon more. However, if I was to use yellow that would work quite well, I actually saw something to that effect in sugegasa's Magitek Armor. But if you want to stick to fleshies, I believe there's going to be a red female outfit for Willie Scott in one of the next year's Indiana Jones sets. Interesting ideally I'd like to try my hand at decals, but for the sake of curiosity, do any pics of this set exist yet? Quote
Pencoin Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 WOW, very game-accurate. You think? I'm not sure it looks to dragon-like I think. Quote
Sandy Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 You think? I'm not sure it looks to dragon-like I think. So does the original one. Quote
Pencoin Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 (edited) So does the original one. Snip That picture is pretty alien to me, It doesn't look to much like the actual thing More humanoid. Edited September 22, 2008 by Pencoin Quote
Morgan19 Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 (edited) The "actual thing" is a little murky in this case, Pencoin: you're comparing his model to an in-game sprite instead of the original Amano artwork€“ it'd be like saying LEGO's Boba Fett minifig isn't accurate because it doesn't look like initial concept art, for example. As is often the case with anything vs. Amano's artwork, they're two very different things. Compared to the Amano painting, yep, it looks really good. It's a little on the chunky side and could use a bit more color variation, but recognizable nonetheless. A Magitek armor is one of those thing I keep meaning to making one of these days and just never get around to. m19 Edited September 22, 2008 by Morgan19 Quote

optimus-convoy Posted September 25, 2008 Author Posted September 25, 2008 Doesn't she had green hair in the game? Yes, she did in the game, but in the game artwork she was always blond. (I'm still not sure why they did that. ) I did always like the mint green hair better though, for the uniqueness. Quote

Terra's hair was changed from blonde to green for the sprite to prevent her from getting mixed up with Celes. The same goes for the girls in FF V, whose sprites all have quirky hair colors, but their artwork shows them as blondes. Quote
zero1312 Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Why not black, white and brown then? Quote
Pencoin Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 It was something to do with the atrist I belive, for FF7 or FF8 they had another person doing it (The guy who made kingdom hearts). Confusing I know. Quote
Sandy Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Why not black, white and brown then? You have to remember that we're talking about Japanese here. Strange haircolor was all the rage in the anime of the 80's and 90's. Pencoin, Tetsuya Nomura is the character designer for most of the FF-games from PlayStation 1 onwards. Before that, the designs were done by Yoshitaka Amano. But it wasn't easy to transfer his detailed artwork to the sprite form used in the Nintendo-era games, so the colors were switched around for clarity's sake. Okay, this Final Fanatic will shut up now before everybody starts to snore. Quote

Manta Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 I never played any Final Fantasy games, but this is awesome looking. It would look awesome in any army. Quote
Cameron_Talley Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Regarding the hair: I have read that in the original game she was supposed to be blond..blond is a rare colour among the japanese, and thus exotic. However, Blond is pretty common in the west, so they changed it to green. Quote
slimninj4 Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Wow this looks pretty accurate to the FF machine. Quote
