Ralph_S Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I don't quite see the appeal of using Fabuland figures nowadays, but some people are doing some pretty funny things with the figures. However, when I was a small child I used to love Fabuland -much more so than minifigs. Minifigs all looked the same with their silly smiley faces, whereas Fabuland figures actually had some character. I still have about 30 figures. Indeed, as a few other people have mentioned, the utensils can come in very handy. Cheers, Ralph
Bundalings Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I don't actually like it, but it's funny. ~Bunda
Shadows Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 You're smarter than I give you credit for. I'm not sure in his case that's saying a lot. Do you mean this site? Have you included my poll? Yes and no. In that order. Fixed now! I actually went to that parts page but I guess my connection was sucking so bad it wasn't loading the images, so I thought it was just an impossible to read yellow text on lime green list. The pics loaded this time and it's the one. Lay off Fabuland. It never hurt anyone. But if people keep poking at it, that could change.
Stauder Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I'm not sure in his case that's saying a lot. You have me confused with Staudie of EB News... That reminds me! I have to go watch Black Adder! Stauder.
Shoc Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I like Fabuland, it is crazy but not crap. I like the anthropomorphic animal characters in the theme, and the general cartoonyness. I unfortunately have no Fabuland sets as I wasn't around at that time, but I might get some somewhen... I was actually surprised that so many people discovered Fabuland through Hinckley. I didn't, I had heard of it one time and looked it up, BrickZone was one of the things I looked at though. The real value of Fabuland comes in many forms. The innocence, the simplicity, the vast array of new parts that might not exist had it never been created. Yeah, I love all the parts. We still get a lot of them in sets nowadays, but only about 20%, I'd love to have more. All the wheelbarrowy things and accessories, I'd love to get them in new sets. Do you mean this site? Wow, that list is really great. Like I said, we should get more of those bits. :skull:
hollisbrick Posted September 20, 2008 Author Posted September 20, 2008 Lay off Fabuland. It never hurt anyone. I find that...very hard to believe
Admiral Blockbeard Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I find that...very hard to believe Well not that we can A. Prove happened B. Say with out fear of the bulldog C. Say happened directly, (often it involves some system weapon) D. Prove its non-fiction Regards Cpt. PB
Adam Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 (edited) You MEGABLOCKER!!!!! How could you insult Fabuland so, when it is the holds so many cooky, funny maniacs, like myself?! How DARE you! It never hurt you! Come on, how is this not cute?! Especially since it will be the cast for my upcoming mafia game?! He was my first, too! And he's still pretty much together, except for some improvments! Sure, I know you can't see the attachment, it was meant that way! So ha! Manic, dark Fabuland lovers ON!!! SirNadroj Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Why don't we open a thread asking why Galidor is stupid? Or Duplo? Znap while we're at it. I'm honestly surprised this thread is still open. People liking or disliking something is a matter of personal preference, so who really cares what other people think? Bashing a theme and calling it "retarded" is both rude, blunt and "retarded" in and of itself. It seems like the majority of people like it; the ressurection of this theme by AFOL MOCs is probably attributed to the nostalgic qualities the theme has for some people. They remember growing up with it as children, and they want to share it with a younger generation. Be appreciative Fabuland is the bandwagon and not Galidor.
WhiteFang Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 How could anyone ever think Fabuland is crap..... Fabuland is a wonderful theme, which stirs a great interest in our childhood back in the 1980s. In fact, it's one of the most innovative theme ever released, by using innocent animals to illustrate pure heart and imaginative thoughts within a child. Looking at these figures and simple construction, it was a fanastic theme, in its own way. I appericate Fabuland theme very much. In any possible, I will like to see it coming back in the near future. Fabuland is never a crap, and shall never be tolerated as crap... Look at these lovely figures!
Fluyt Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Fabuland isn't even close to being as wierd and retarded as Bionicle (which I don't even see as LEGO, Fabuland at least has the "LEGO-feel", Bionicle doesn't). I'm not really fond of Fabuland and it is kinda wierd, but I don't think it's crap/retarded and it also has usefull elements.
Norrington Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Look at these lovely figures! The figs are fine, but the google-y eyes look awful. I prefer the shimmer-y eyes with no distinct pupils.

I certainly agree with that statement. I think Fabuland is beautiful. It is so simple and innocent. I think it is very rude to insult it and call it "stupid" or "retarded", it has been a source of inspiration for so many beautiful MOC's. It provided so much happiness to children (so much that they never outgrew it as seen in many of EB's members ). I find it humorous that my relatives owned Fabuland, a toy designed for children, and as a child I absolutely hated it. Now that I'm much older I absolutely love it!
Eilif Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I would like to add, that I don't see myself actively seeking out fabuland stuff, but I'd take a bag of Fabuland over a bag of Bionicle any day. The only Fabuland I've seen in person has been a sample of Hinkley's stuff at Brickworld. Thus for me, Fabuland still has a kind of mythical quality, and if a fabuland fig ever shows up in the bags of LEGO I buy from Salvation army, it's definatley going to get a place of honor in my minifig collection.
Batbrick Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Myself I quite like it, not enough to buy but I do love its innocence and benign qualities. The fact that it never really had any "battles" is wonderful, and it is nice to see them alongside current minifigs in funny vignettes. But I must admit I've had quite a beef with them lately due to overexposure, most likely due to the Fabuland Builder's Guild, the style which was once unique and vibrant to me became a relative standard. Still, I do admire its qualities. Batbrick Away!

A few people do truly lovely stuff with Fabuland figures and before you know it, there's lots of people who start using them, but hardly ever as good as the people who started the trend. It doesn't have to be Fabuland or in fact LEGO building either, BTW. There are always people who are original and do their own thing and there are people who are followers. Cheers, Ralph
VBBN Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 I just like fabuland because they are classics.... And I like fabuland housewives by Hinckley. Well I hope you don't think I'm like that; I wouldn't say I love Bionicle, but I certainly don't hate it. Afterall, this guy was my first post Dark Age set... ...and he's still together! Ohhh...Kopaka Mata..
salty tbone Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 I love Fabuland. I had a much larger post in my mind, but I'll just leave it at that.

Znap while we're at it.I'm honestly surprised this thread is still open. I can't see any reason to. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, even if it's wrong. Providing this doesn't get to personal or offensive it isn't doing any harm. If anything it's become a "why I like Fabuland" topic. (I wouldn't mind some Znap actually! )
