Zepher Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 It can seem incredibly untasteful if done badly though I've got lots of ideas, and will get to work as soon as i can run to a Pick a Brick and get a few simple sets that i need. Quote
Zorro Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Nope, I don't think he went too far. I don't see any staff member telling him something inappropriate had to be removed in that entry. Our members are allowed to post adult content on EBs. It's all in our community guidelines and in the post you have to accept when creating an account on EBs. I didnt HAVE to remove it either, the staff said it was OK, but because a few members were against it, i decided to remove it anyhow to prevent a discussion around it. i repeat: i didnt want to "shock" or be funny, I just wanted to try how it looked as an extra detail. Pirates stripped officers from anything, especcialy their expensive uniforms. THATS a HISTORICAL fact! It wasnt finished either, if it wasnt critisized, i would have improved the looking of it, it actually was a surprise for me to see how some people seemed...well...."offended" is a big word but... Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted September 23, 2008 Eurobricks Emperor Posted September 23, 2008 It can seem incredibly untasteful if done badly though Maybe, but this isn't a contest to demonstrate pirates having good taste Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Maybe, but this isn't a contest to demonstrate pirates having good taste Correct. This contest is about showing the cruel, criminal, evil, treacherous, pillaging, plundering, savage pirates! Quote
Sandy Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) it actually was a surprise for me to see how some people seemed...well...."offended" is a big word but... They were offended because the LEGO figure had a bigger "arm" than they do. J/k! Edited September 24, 2008 by Sandy Quote

Big T Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Sweet! I'll get to work on an entry or two after I knock off some assignments, great to see a long period of working time. Thanks again guys for getting such an amazing collection of prizes. Quote

Captain Zuloo Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Has my wife been telling short stories about me again? Tony Ah. Is sandy your wife? I though your wife wasn't a fan of Lego. Guess I was wrong! Quote
Gen. Knowledge Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Ah. Is sandy your wife? I though your wife wasn't a fan of Lego. Guess I was wrong! No Captain Zuloo, Sandy is not my wife. And yes, my wife is not a big fan of adults playing with Lego. She says there are age limits on the Lego boxes and I should follow them. OK, lets get back on topic with the contest questions... Zorro Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) You are only as old as you feel yourself ! Just a little concern: It is being checked that no one is cheating the system by making multiple accounts to post more entries and to bring more votes, is it? I heavily trust into the competence of our great staff members, and into the integrity of the members of this forum, but its just that so many new members are joining just for the contest ?! (yes i know im new too, but I (think) i joined 2 days before the contest) No... I am NOT seeking to cheat... I dont have enough bricks to build multiple entries and some members of the staff lives just a little bit too close to my house Not to speak off MY unbreakable integrity..only breakable by a very large amount of money/lego bricks. (OH-OH...there are large amounts of expensive lego involved...BAH, there are still my first 2 reasons eh...) SUCCES, everyone ! And play it fair and square ! Dreamweb Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 You are only as old as you feel yourself ! That's the spirit! Anyway, me large entry is more or less 80% complete, I hope to show it to you in a couple of days. Yeah, I know I could've created a WIP thread but I usually prefer just presenting the final thing so I decided to skip that one. This be my second ever Lego contest entry, and a first large one... Zorro Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Im waiting anctiously to see yours too (way too few MOCs comming in for the contest now) I want to see more MOCS ! This is my first Lego contest entry, so im trying to learn as much as possible! I have entered 1 Old Glory contest one (napoleonic-25mm) but that was years ago-and no Lego off course. People, show us more MOCs for the contest! I noticed dozens and dozens of you joining, so where ar you?? Quote
Trexxen Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I know this is probably a rather stupid question, but I haven't seen it answered yet and I'd hate to have my first chance to lay my hands on a pirate set (I'm a sad, sad man ;_; ) squandered by such a petty thing, so...uh... Can the Pirates be pillaging/backstabbing/fighting other Pirates? I don't have any imperials yet, although I do have two shakos and another on the way =P ~Trexxen Quote
Erdbeereis Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I don't see why not. As long as they are being evil, I don't think anyone will complain. Quote
pe668 Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 There's a lot of messages here to wade through, thanks to all the off-topic posting. I wanted to ask some questions: - Does a Moc have to be normal orientation, or can I build a skinny boat that is standing on it's nose and on a small base? - We have to use pirate mini-figs (set in the Caribbean somewhere roughly in the period from 1600-1800) does anyone have set references (range of set numbers?) or would any fig in the pirates category on Lugnet be ok? - Do all mini-fig pirates have hats, or do some have hair or bald? - We can use custom sails, so can we use all other Lego set boats, specifically the very cool 6057, without that sets figs, with pirates added and the boat with a new pirate sail. At what point does it become a custom and ok to use? - Who will do the judging, is it public voting or EB staff only? - Is it considered better protocol in EB Moc's to use tiles instead of studs showing for water? Pe866, A large amount of these questions have already been answered, and it isn't fair on us all to have to reply to the same questions again and again. However, I will help you out with a few: - We have to use pirate mini-figs (set in the Caribbean somewhere roughly in the period from 1600-1800) does anyone have set references (range of set numbers?) or would any fig in the pirates category on Lugnet be ok? Yes. They can't be vikings etc. - Do all mini-fig pirates have hats, or do some have hair or bald? Of course they can be bald. Some pirates were most definatley bald. Hats are not an issue here. - Is it considered better protocol in EB Moc's to use tiles instead of studs showing for water? Water can be whatever you like, but as a rule of thumb, water is usually flat (tiles, SNOT) so as not to detract from the rest of the model. I hope these help, but next time please read the post as there arn't really that many off topic posts. Regards, Captain Zuloo Quote
Sandy Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Water can be whatever you like, but as a rule of thumb, water is usually flat (tiles, SNOT) so as not to detract from the rest of the model. In my opinion that's a matter of taste. Sure, flat pieces as water look more realistic, but if someone uses eg. a blue baseplate, I think it goes without saying that it represents water as well. Go studs! Quote
Dreamweb Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 (edited) It depends on what kind of water you want. Sometimes flat fits better, sometimes not. When you use blue baseplate with studs visible, it looks like hundreds of small ripples on the water surface and I like it - have you ever seen a flat sea? Edited September 25, 2008 by Dreamweb Quote

No, but I havn't seen a sea with hundreds of perfectly placed ripples exactly the same uniform distance apart from each other either. Quote
Big T Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 No, but I havn't seen a sea with hundreds of perfectly placed ripples exactly the same uniform distance apart from each other either. You need to get out to the sea more how do you think Jesus walked on water? The ripples were perfectly sized for him to fit right on each one Quote
pe668 Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Pe866,A large amount of these questions have already been answered, and it isn't fair on us all to have to reply to the same questions again and again. Caploo Zutain, I disagree that the majority of my questions have been adequately addressed. In fact after drafting my post I went through and read every previous post. I'm glad you could find the time to answer some more. Do you know of any Lego sets which contained bald pirate figs? And can pirates use any hair? I have only ever seen skeletons in pirate sets with bald stud heads and all the pirates I have seen have hats. Many answers can be interpreted differently due to their subjective nature. So I was seeking clarification. For example, I have only two boats in my entire collection and was asking if a 6057 knights boat, packed with pirates and with a pirate sail was eligible. At the end of the contest, violations will be disqualified OR subject to a penalty as determined by the staff. Please avoid this by clarifying any rules which you don't understand in this thread. So one last clarification. LDD or digital work will not be accepted BUT backgrounds can have digital manipulation. So can we have real lego Moc’s displayed with LDD backgrounds? The staff's judgment is final. Violations may be mentioned in the discussion thread, or not. So staff determine eligibility, but are they judging the competition? Tell me you're not one of the judges, aaaaarrrrg, I'm sunk. As for off topic posts, I stand by my original assessment. It took me quite some time to trawl through 90 posts seeking some answers. And IMHO naked mini-figs should be allowed to show off their banana’s and water built with plate looks the best. Quote
Zorro Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 There are no OFFICIAL sets containing bald Lego pirates as far as i know, but it is clearly stated is is allowed: I have seen tons of MOCS with bald pirates/men, even prizewinners! Pirates can use ANY official lego hair. i fully agree with the banana-thingie Shouldnt we open another thread on this, with only Q&A / FAQ ? This isnt readable anymore... I also would like to know more about the 4 th prize division, which you can win for creative critisism and so on, EXAMPLE: we dont have to ENTER that "division", that is what I can deduct, IF I am WRONG, please respond. No official pirate set contained bald minifigs, but you don't have to make an official set, so bald is a good way to go! Knight's ship is fine, although I would modify the hull as well as the sail if I were you so as to make it more original. I'm going to say that I think the LDD backgrounds will be fine as long as they arn't the center of attention, as it is the same as just google image searching "lego backdrop" and digitally inserting the background image. Don't quote me on this, but I think the EB community is voting and if there is dispute, the admins and mods will clear it up. I hope this helps and good luck! I wouldn't use the exo-force manga hair in your MOC without good reason. Let there be no more discussion of the so called "banana thingie" in this thread. It is for PTV questions only. I suggest that you take a listen to this for some more details on "Creative Critic". Good luck! Quote
