can i use a non lego water such as cloth, because for my large entrie, its too large to cover with my supply of legos at least.

I'm interested in this also- as long as the actual brick structures were on a baseplate this would be okay wouldn't it?

Please someone answer this question.

Isn't it obvious that since you can use a digital background in the contest entries, you can also use a real backround as well.

I think it's common sense that you can place your entry on a blue sheet or paper to resemble water, and have a poster of a palm beach or something as a backdrop, but do correct me if I'm somehow wrong.

one more quewstion, for the smaler areas, must your items be soley built on that small of a board, or can you use a lager board and take the picture so it displays the 16x16, or 8x8 without including aditional area?

Sorry, no. Surely you have enough plates to make a 16x16 base? :pir-wink:

Hi. I'm working on my small entry right now and... uhm... I have kind of a weird question. Did the Brittish have showers back then? I'm pretty sure they did, but what did they look like? Anyone have a reference pic for me?

Just a bucket on a hanging pivot with a rope attached to turn it over, much like you'd ring a church bell. But nothing sophisticated like we English have today. Or you could go down the Swiss Family Robinson route - complex plumbing made out of bamboo, but completely unrealistic.

Does the title picture count as a picture even if it does not display any legos?

Nope. I can't see why you need one though... :pir-look:

Correct

Oh, OK. :pir-look: Does that mean that they didn't have any bathtubs or sinks either? Not even in the late 1700s?

Also, were those bucket-showers indoors or outdoors?

Bathtubs, yes (tin or wooden tubs, but without taps). Sinks - possibly, but these mainly came in around 1850, with the development of better ceramics.

Bucket-showers were mainly outdoors, but with a canvas curtain around them on a wooden frame. When tiling became common, indoor showers were more fiesable, as the tiles prevented water damage to the building.

Here's a modern version of a bucket shower.

But it's completely up to you what you do :pir-grin:

my question was on the baseplates. I meant could i make something lik on a 16x 16 baseplate, and take the pic so it only displays 8x8, would this be acceptable.

I quote:

Can I build on a section of a larger baseplate for the Small and Medium categories, but keeping it within the size limit?

No.

Please read the first post before asking questions, this is to everybody. :classic:

Did they have grandfather clocks during the time of Pirates?

Yup, they had even some simple clocks during the Middle Ages, and Swiss was known for these even back then.

But do know only (very) rich people could afford them, like rich farm- and plantageowners, admirals, commodores, high-ranking officers,... .

Just don't put one in the guards quarters I mean. :pir-grin:

Unfortunately, I am disinclined to aqiuest to your request - Hector Barbossa. Probably not. If the size of the baseplate contradicts the rules and regulations of this contest, even if not visible, then the entry becomes void.

Division #2 - Medium: Maximum size 16x16.

[*]A reasonable amount of overlap is allowed in the Medium and Small divisions, but nothing extensive. Stacking plates/baseplates will not be allowed. If you are uncertain that your entry qualifies, we suggest posting it with a specific request for a review and someone in the staff will make a determination.

[*]SNOT bases are allowed up to the approximate size specified for a normal baseplate.

I have a 16x16 baseplate, and everything sits on it except two round 1x1 cylinders, which sit opposite each other on the sides. Theorhetically the size of the MOC is 18x16, but these cylinders are only for structural support. Would this be okay?

(if it helps I can send a photo)

I don't think that would be an issue, and as the rules say a reasonable amount of overlap is allowed, I'm going to say yes. Although to be sure you should still check with the staff. But like I said before, i see no reason why not.

That's what I thought myself, but always better to check. It was kinda accidental the way it came out, but hopefully it will still eligible.

Like I said, I think it will be unless some particularly grumpy pirates ransacked ImperialShadows' ship.

You can only post 6 pictures in your entry thread, but you can post more in another folder such as Brickshelf or Flickr, and post a link to it in your entry thread.

Ok! Thanks! :pir-sweet: Time to resize the pictures! :pir-classic:

I know what to resize it to. Everybody who posted more than 800x600 will be disqualified. I usually resize images under 800x600.

Well, then I suppose you are in no danger of being disqualified. BTW, I like your new avatar heaps better than the old one. Don't change it back! :jollyroger:

I really don't understand why so many MEMBERS make that mistake, do they think all: "if we do it with enough of us, they won't dare to disqualifie us" or something?? (I would not bet on not getting disqualified BTW)

OR are they just so neglective they don't even care about reading the rules? That same goes for using not-allowed custom pieces and illegal techniques... :pir-sad2:

WAKE UP, boys, do it correctly from the first time and you won't get that much critic either (and it saves us who give the critis LOADS of work as well :pir-wink: )
