The Middleman Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 http://www.lego.com/eng/factory/default.asp Knock yourself out. I downloaded it and went for a spin, unless you want generic bricks, there is NOTHING there. Once more parts packs come out though, I'll be using this like crazy, the program is great and the controls are fantastic, very easy to use. No 1x1 slopes, though... :( Quote
Mr. Lego-builder Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Interesting...I'm downloading it now...let's see how it turns out. The previous interfaces were pretty good, however, the program would sometimes slow down or lag. Let's see if this version if better. Good...good...you can now finally buy your own models. Look at the instructions here. Have fun! EDIT: Bloody Jay, if you use the "My Car" and My Animal" brick selection, there should be a 1x1 slope in red and bley. Quote
Hobbes Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Looks like I'm too much of a computer illiterate to use it, I can't even put two bricks next to each other :'( I think I'll pass... Quote
Mr. Lego-builder Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 I found something really wrong...take a look here. It's one of the custom models, but why does it say it has 537 pieces of the Wild Hunters set, but only uses 82? And it costs $30 USD?! I guess this can't be changed... So this Factory thing isn't all that it has all cracked up to be... Quote
The Middleman Posted August 25, 2005 Author Posted August 25, 2005 The parts are packaged in 'groups'... so you'll get extra parts you don't need. Quote
Mr. Lego-builder Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 I see...so the only "real" customizable aspect you'll get is just the box that it comes in? Quote
The Middleman Posted August 25, 2005 Author Posted August 25, 2005 No, you do get to pick what parts you get, you just get EXTRA parts as well. Quote
Akkhraziel Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Based on my initial examination of it, I don't think its an error, but how they are choosing to market this batch of Lego factory. In essence, they are selling you a pre-made assortment of parts, which you just had the luxury of building with befroe you purchased the kit. I'm messing around with it right now...I'll let you know what I come up with. I'm designing nothing special, just a piece of minifig scale wall to link to a piece of castle MOC I've been working on. Akkh Quote
Sastrei Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Uhh, this bites. I sincerely hope they change it for future releases, otherwise the lil kiddies won't be able to afford it. Heck, even I can't afford that, and I have a job! Thought of one thing: if one of us creates a guide to the baggies, we may be able to get loads of a single good parts baggy (like how Yoda back when had the one bag full of tan 1x8's) by building the right model. -Stefan- Quote
Terence Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Anyone got their MOC factory set from S@H? what's it look like? and how about the price?? Quote
Mr. Lego-builder Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 Prateek, what are the problems you are having? I can't upload my model either. The program either crashes or goes back to the model veiwing mode after the progress bar reaches the end. If this mean success, then I think we have to wait up to 4 days in order for it to show up. *wacko* HOWEVER, If you live anywhere else other than the U.S., the the online ordering included in the program will not work. Hobbes Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 In essence, they are selling you a pre-made assortment of parts, which you just had the luxury of building with befroe you purchased the kit. That's right. And I don't like it. I just finished a model out of two assortments because I needed some more parts and didn't want to compromise. I ended up using 393 pieces. After uploading, though, I saw that I would have to buy 1084(!) pieces. Of course, the price was accordingly. I don't mind having to buy a few more pieces than used but almost three times as much?!?! >:( Quote
Mr. Lego-builder Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 This might not be the right place to discuss this, but may I ask you, Hobbes, or anybody else who uploaded their model: 1. How long did it take for the model to be approved? 2. Are there any signs that point to the direction of of a successful upload. As I have said in the Community part of the forum, I am having trouble with the new LDD Version 1.4 software. When I try to upload a model, the progress bar reaches the end, but I am then taken back to the model viewing screen. Is this supposed to happen? Any help at all would be appreciated. *satis* Quote
Hobbes Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 As for the approval I can't say anything, mine's still pending. Upload didn't take long. After the progress bar in LDD is "full" your browser opens and you see some sort of Legal Statement from the LEGO Factory. From there on it's clicky-clicky (accepting the disclaimer, price check, logging in to LEGO, sharing in the gallery) and you're there. So, the "sign" that the upload worked is your browser opening. hth Quote

Jipay Posted August 27, 2005 Posted August 27, 2005 This might not be the right place to discuss this, but may I ask you, Hobbes, or anybody else who uploaded their model: According to the off topic rule of the forum, every place is the right one to discuss :P Quote

I wonder if it's the broswer's problems. I use Microsoft Internet Explorer and MSN. What do you use? Also, it might also be another problem. I hate to be bothering to some people, or the admins/moderators for "spamming" but if you know any fix to these problems, please post the solution here. If it continues on like this, I won't e able to enjoy LDD fully. It does seem like a nice program and all. Please help if you can! Thanks! *satis* Quote
The Middleman Posted August 28, 2005 Author Posted August 28, 2005 Well, as a general rule of thumb, I use Firefox... IE is loaded with viruses. See if that works, and even if it doesn't you have a better browser. ;) Quote
Hobbes Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 My model's still pending approval |-/ Then again, it's 5am in the States where the approvers most likely sit... then again again, online-teams have to be around 24/7 *twisted* Quote
Mr. Lego-builder Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 I wonder why the heck it isn't working! I've e-mailed LEGO Tech Support about this problem two days ago, but they still didn't even respond yet! >:( I have to get to the bottom of this. It seems like I'm the only one who has this problem. I think it's my computer that's defective, and not the program. But I wonder why that is. I have higher than the recommended system requirements... :( Quote
sam89 Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 I downloaded LDD 1.3 from this link after I deleted 1.4: http://cache.lego.com/downloads/create/dig...talDesigner.exe I wouldn't be able to use 1.4 until next year in europe anyway. Quote
gylman Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Well, the whole Lego Factory business seems to be rather disappointing. Never mind the fact that you only can choose from a very limited pallete, the real problem is the cost. This is an example http://news.lugnet.com/announce/moc/?n=2955 very basic set, you get 118 parts you need, and 514 you don't (for the set, anyway) Cost - 43.93 US$ Crazy. I guess we should have guessed it would be this way from the marked overpricing of the three first lego factory sets. I understand why TLC is releasing the 'packs" you need, not individual parts, but it ends up being insanely expensive. I guess what will end up happening is that once all the part packs are known, people will just build MOCs that make maximum uses of specific packs, or just pseudo-mocs just for the parts. Oh well, it was too good to be true. *devil* I look forward to making a house entirely from pneumatic parts! G Quote
