Badsneaker Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Has anyone here actually built something on LDD and purchased/received their creation? Was curious as to how it went and if it was worth the money. Quote

Badsneaker Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 Well, I am currently building a bar (Almost finished! ), but I can't find out how to purchase it.Lego12 Well I've gone through the whole process except for the purchase. After you finish you have the option to price your model, then purchase it, but I have never purchased anything yet. Quote
VBBN Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 (edited) My creations always say unavaible, so I quit LDD. I look forward to your bar, lego12! Edited October 1, 2008 by ~VBBN~ Quote
Badsneaker Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 My creations always say unavaible, so I quit LDD. I look forward to your bar, lego12! I think it may depend on what LEGO has in stock. I have had some projects say a certain brick was not available for purchase. Quote
Lego12 Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Thanks VBBN! Same thing happened to me, they don't have some pieces availible! So I can't buy my awesome bar! Quote

FreeBee Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 (edited) Has anyone here actually built something on LDD and purchased/received their creation? Was curious as to how it went and if it was worth the money. I bought several things through ldd: - a house - a train - some bricks to complete an extra traincar - and some other traincars It all went fine. I got exactly what i ordered within a few days. But if its worth the money ? You can get cheaper bricks but it is all about if you are willing to pay it. Extra: You also get a nice box with it. But u don't get printed instructions Edited October 1, 2008 by FreeBee Quote
KimT Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 LDD has a feature that allows you to go through all the steps in the building process of your design. It's not very good, but it's better than nothing. Check the help index within the program to find out how to upload, price and look at the instructions. Quote
medib Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I have bought a few models off Lego Digital Designer and it isn't too bad. I like the box that it comes with. I don't like the fact that you don't get printed instructions with it. With the relative high cost per element from Lego Factory, I would think that they should include instructions.... Quote
Eilif Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Has anyone here actually built something on LDD and purchased/received their creation? Was curious as to how it went and if it was worth the money. I've seen alot of designs on LDD that I would like to purchase, but everytime I check the price, it is prohibitively expensive, and not getting printed instructions makes it seem like an even worse deal. However, I have used the PAB function to acquire pieces that are hard to find in quantity or high in price on BL. Certain minifig parts, architectural details (lions heads, iron gates, etc), owls, specific doors, and dark red 1x2's are some of the things that i've gotten. Quote
xenologer Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I'm happy with LDD. Here's an old thread showing one of my Digital designs, along with some photos of the Real one after I bought it: Skull and Crossbones Prices don't have to be super high to be awesome... most builders just end up getting carried away and forget to be careful in their choice of bricks and effecient design... try using a mix of large and small bricks, hollow spaces, etc, build the way official sets are made. Badsneaker Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 Thanks for everyones input on this. I may give it a try. I am thinking if you want something special with a lot of specialty pieces, this may be the way to go. I've ordered tons off PAB, and it works great. Shipments to the US are fast and cheap. They don't have everything though. I also order a lot from eBay and Bricklink. My thinking is if I want to build a great looking house, with lots of non ordinary pieces LDD may be the way to go. I think by the time I source everything I need from eBay, Bricklink and PAB, it may end up being less $$$ on LDD. You can't find it all on one place, eBay, Bricklink or PAB. I usually end up buying from all 3 to get a project done. Quote
strider406 Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Was he happy? Did it come with printed instructions? Yes he was happy but he had to look up the instructions online. Quote
samthelegoman1 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 If it says "unavailable", you can just change the bricks to a different color or replace them with similar looking bricks! Quote
Lego12 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 If it says "unavailable", you can just change the bricks to a different color or replace them with similar looking bricks! I would, but I don't know which pieces are unavailible! Stupid LDD..... Quote
Voodoo Hand Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Has anyone here actually built something on LDD and purchased/received their creation? Was curious as to how it went and if it was worth the money. I never tried the Officialy lego program in that way but I did try to get my MLCAD stuff made in real legos, unfortunatly they sended me lame messages that the law prefends them to do so etc etc... blah blah blah... well basic nonsone. so kinda only way you can try seems by the official program and other wise you just can not try anything at all.
