ApophisV Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Though my bank account isn't happy about eleven new SW sets in the first half of 2005... ;) Quote
Vader Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 I know what you mean, im going to start filling out forms for a bank loan now ;) . I wonder if the light up lightsaber features will increase the prices of the sets??? Quote
ApophisV Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Do you think those things are included in regular sets?? If so, they will increase the price for sure.... |-/ Maybe those light-up lightsabers are sold as separate sets, like e.g. the key chains.... (Yes, I know, the Hasbro thing.... But maybe they found a way to release single figs that can't be called "action figures" or whatever....) Quote
Vader Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Well on galactichunter it states: 'In addition, a nifty new feature for the ROTS sets include light-up lightsabers for the mini figures in "Try Me" packaging. Enjoy!' Seeong as they say sets i would presume that they will be in all the new sets that have jedi in them. Quote
David85 Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 I don't understand these light up things? The lightsabers are too small to light up so are the lights like that of the Trains and have some wire connected to a box? Quote
ApophisV Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Hm, this would be the worst and most silly case.... I HOPE for something like the light-up lightsabers that where shown at FBTB (don't remember the guy that made them....) There was a small LED insert into the lightsaber hilt, wires went through the arm into the torso and there was a small battery... So the hilt was attached to the arm constantly... Maybe TLC found a way to include a LED AND the battery into the hilt, but I can't imagine this (I haven't seen any batterys in this size) I'd say there is the LED into the hilt, some metallic contact parts at the outside of the hilt, then contact parts at the inside of a particular fig und the battery into the fig.... Quote
sam89 Posted November 5, 2004 Author Posted November 5, 2004 Someone on FBTB said he saw a picture showing that you push down the head of the minifig to make the lightsaber light up, so I'd guess that the battery is inside the minifig. I PMed him, and he said he'd try to get a scan of this picture. Quote

Morel like sams suggestion with the push down head. It will be interesting to see what they do. Jon. Quote
David85 Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 maybe thats why the lightsaber dual cost $30? :) Quote
Vader Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Push down heads? well as long as there put together better than those NBA figs. Quote
Sarg_Kulo Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 I hope the Light up sabers does not mean we can't move parts around in them, I would be really disapointed if that happens :/ Quote
jonfett Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 Maybe we won't be dissapointed, maybe TLC will have produced a really fantastic design to keeo to us happy, maybe... The jedi figures could actually sense the force and then their sabres would not just light up, but would appear from out of the hilt... maybe... Jon. Quote
David85 Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 Maybe we won't be dissapointed, maybe TLC will have produced a really fantastic design to keeo to us happy, maybe... HAHAHAHAHA Right.... I will be inpressed if the minifig can move around corectly, unlike the NBA ones, and light up. Quote
Vader Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 If the hilt dosent contain a battery ( which is very, very unlikley) then the fig must contain it. So this would no doubt limit the movement of the fig. I wonder what sets will include the light up feature? probably the Ultimate Lightsaber Duel but which other one(s). Quote
David85 Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 What I mean is that as long as the legs and hand move I'm happy. I see no reason why the feet can't move in the battery is in the shirt area, and the hand better move otherwise it is pointless. Quote
Vader Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 I would be surprised if the legs didnt move, however my main concern will be as to weather one of the arms/hand cant move which would indeed be pointless, lets hope lego have an ace up there sleeves on this one. Quote
Jipay Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 I think the arm with the torche in it won't move but for the rest it should be ok. I think it ios nice to see the light system back in a miniaturized way. Maybe we will get a nice light city system like in the past :) Quote
Vader Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 Ah those were the days when legos police and fire vehicles would light up, still we should give lego a pat on the back for at least trying something new. Quote
clecle Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 Ah those were the days when legos police and fire vehicles would light up, still we should give lego a pat on the back for at least trying something new. Yeah, they're trying their best to add value to their sets. That's their only hope, they focus on high quality bricks, this shows they don't want o lead their war on price Quote
David85 Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 Lego tried something new a few years ago too, it was called City Center. Quote
J1A3L5 Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 In my opinion, the best way to do the lightup function is something that Rob did to one of his: A contact between the palm of the hand, and the outside of the accessory to be lit. I believe in this case it was when the blaster was turned sideways it broke the connection, but when it was facing ahead it was lit. Still a cool idea. What about if the lightsaber was in the figure's hand it lit, but when you removed it from the hand it deactivated? Quote

It shouldn't be that hard to do because all they need is a little medal on the hand and some on the saber. Quote
Padawan716 Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 Well, I'm not an electrical engineer or anything, but I think the LED could be contained within the body, with the battery. The thing would require the hollow arm to be filled (or made of solid) transparent plastic, as well as the hand. Then, the lightsaber would *also* need to be trans plastic (painted over, of course) and, if I'm correct, the light should go down the arm and light up the saber. It's similar to the way the train headlights work. The problem is that you'd have to be careful about the paint because it would rub off like the chrome used on other pieces (I think, I'm not sure). Quote
David85 Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 Welcome Padawan716 The only difference is that in a minifig they need to have a battery pack fit in the thing that you can change out. Maybe it will be a rechargable guy, you stick the minifigs head in something to recharge the lightsaber. :) Quote
