Legoman Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 2006 will be the best year star wars *drooling smile* but i do think the sail barge needs more figs :( Quote
HJR-Holland Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 I'm very VERY happy with the Sailbarge; after the Sandcrawler it was the last 'big' vehicle I could have whished for before the end of 2007... :-D Honestly I think there's a certain French MOC builder banging his head against the wall for making a great MOC sailbarge, and three years later decides to sell his instructions, just before LEGO releases his own ;) Quote
Beagle Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 First off, this is great news.... the sail barge is one of the few remaining voids in the Lego SW universe. And the fact that it'll come with a Sarlacc is just the icing on the cake. As for the set itself, I too worry that it'll be a bit <insert that tiresome argument> (though I don't agree with Sweden that the Sandcrawler was <insert that tiresome argument>... quite the contrary, I thought it exhibited a nice reverse trend towards brick-based construction). Though I agree that the "playability" features of the Sandcrawler were lame... I would have preferred a "diorama-style," multi-tiered interior that could be accessed by opening the side panels. I hope the barge tends more toward long and narrow than short and stout... one thing I dislike about the Sandcrawler is that it seems too wide. I sure hope it comes with another (disguised) Lando. It'll seem a little... weird to have a flesh-toned slave Leia. A bit racy for Lego. It would also be great if they re-molded Jabba in tan.... he never seemed right in green (though I realize this is unlikely). Oh, and Snefroe1, I'm assuming that when people mention a "minifig-scale Super Star Destroyer," they're referring to a Cloud-City-style playset of just the bridge or something. A minifig-scale SSD would be as long as a football field! As for Spongebob, this really isn't so strange... it'll probably be the same kind of stuff they currently produce for "Dora the Explorer," aimed at the same demographic. Spongebob is hugely popular here in the U.S. right now, even though they haven't been producing the show for years and all that exist are re-runs. Quote
Sweden Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 HJR Honestly I don't think that Mr. Eric "Baron Sat" Druon is banging his head against the wall for making the instructions for his great MOC Jabba's Sail Barge as none of us have seen the official set yet and as far as I'm concerned he has no need to as his version might be proven superior compared to the LEGO version. So until June... He doesn't need to bang his head to the wall if he ever has to. ;) Beagle I agree with most of what you say but you "do" contradict yourself first saying that the Jawa Sandcrawler isn't <insert that tiresome argument> and then second saying it seem to be too wide and the major reason for that "is" because it's <insert that tiresome argument> because in the movie it's a "huge" vehicle while the LEGO set is just large but "not" huge. A "true" mini figure scale Jawa Sandcrawler would be around 2 to 3 times bigger if not even larger ... ;) Sweden - The One... And Only. Quote
Stainboy Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Circa 800 pieces.Sarlacc confirmed. Definite Slave Leia w/ chain. Coming in June. Think the Sail Barge'll come with a new skiff? And I hope the included Sarlacc isn't that stupid worm thing from the special edition. Quote

As for a new skiff...I'm sorta doubtful at the moment, but I think they might do a re-release Quote
TroyTMoore Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 No chance of there being money in my pocket this upcoming year..... This should be a fantastic set, given what we have seen with Sandcrawler and Imperial Inspection (neither were "perfect" models, but with the figs and all, there was a great atmosphere created). If the KK2:3 stuff looks as good as the megafigs.... Unreal, LEGO seems to be pursuing some good things. 2005 was already sooo much better. Yay LEGO! Quote

Well.... you make a good point, Sweden. I guess it depends on your definition of "<insert that tiresome argument>". I tend to think of it as the use of large, custom-molded specialty pieces that have little building potential outside of their sets of origin. Or excessive use of stickers. But if you are just talking about a lack of accuracy or a discrepancy of scale, then yeah, the Sandcrawler was <insert that tiresome argument>. But so is almost every other large-ish lego Star Wars set: the AT-AT, the Clone Turbo Tank, the Imperial Shuttle, the Falcon, etc. They're all "too small" compared to the scale of the minifigs. It doesn't bother me, though.... if they were to scale they'd be expensive and unwieldy. And it would take way more minifigs to populate them. As it is they still give the sense of being big, and they capture the spirit of the original. Not arguing with you at all, just clarifying my earlier post. :) Quote
DoubleT Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Lego Star Wars sets are toys after all... And are made to kids.. yes even the big ones.... But i agree the size difference dont bother me :) Quote
agrotic Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 sailbarge could be very fun ! exposed near the sandcrawler it may be great ! a sailbarge like this ? http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=101122 groovy ! minifigs don't bother because they're always the same, so... I won't spend my energy on that point. and what about bobsponge on the sailbarge ? lol Quote
KimT Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Mighty Sarlacc we bow before You. - A perfect setup with Boba being chewed up and a blind Han Solo shooting his sports gun in all the wrong directions.....This is good - life is great and I'm getting poor :oD KimT Quote
Rivets Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Great! The sail barge will finally hit the shelves. I think it will be in the new dark grey (bley) colours which is a bit of a let down for me. I hope its interior will be very detailled, probably even with Jabba's gold picture on the wall. I think it will come with an additional desert skiff as the Sarlacc would not make any sense without the small vehicle. Quote
languages Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Maybe the set will be better than baronsat's..... Quote
agrotic Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 better than that ? http://www.baronsat.net/baronshop/Barge/pa...page_barge.html Quote
DoubleT Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Well when i see it, i wont compare to other stuff :) Quote
languages Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 :() how much will it be? About $200 in my oppinion.... Quote
agrotic Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 how much ? I don't know : 1st, see it. 2nd estimate the price. Quote
sam89 Posted October 28, 2005 Author Posted October 28, 2005 If it's got 800 pieces like Bloody Jay said it'll probably cost around $90. Quote

The Middleman Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 If it's got 800 pieces like Bloody Jay said it'll probably cost around $90. Yeah, the price point will be somewhere in the vicinity of $80-$100. I'll try to confirm this. Quote

Jay I really hope you are wrong about this ;) Really, 800 pieces is really short to have a great model !!!! The Sarlacc should be at least like 50 pieces to be good (without even mentioning the pit he lives in). The set is going to be tiny !!!!! Its really weird, I was guessing the number of pieces to be a little less than the Crawler but a lot more than 800 !!!! Oh well, this needs confirmation but I do hope for it to be a great model !!!!
