DoubleT Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 I must say, I find it great that Lego makes "new" kind of sets :) And try something new :) Quote
Orlego Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 It just may be a good rendition of a horrible Ep. III ship, I don't know. I have not seen a pic of the one in the movie. I just know what I like and don't like and this is a bad set. Quote
Orlego Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 Sorry, I can't say bad set because I have not seen the movie version. I should have said it is a bad ship. Quote
sam89 Posted December 22, 2004 Author Posted December 22, 2004 I've seen a pic of it which I can't find anymore (it was a drawing from Clone Wars Series 3), and it looks pretty much the same as the Lego version. Quote
Vader Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 Thats the main problem, no pics of the actual ship itself. Quote
DoubleT Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 Well i think there is the teaser trailer... Quote
Orlego Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 I was almost 100% sure that it was a bad Lucas design. Lego does a pretty good job with the sets. I have not been real happy with Lucas's ship design for Ep. I & II except at the end of Ep. II and Jango's ship (really just a rip of Boba Fett's ship). Quote
Cello Collin Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 [...] except at the end of Ep. II and Jango's ship (really just a rip of Boba Fett's ship). *cough* It IS Boba's ship. Boba just repainted it. ;) Quote

Vader Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 true but its a little hard to make out. Quote
jonfett Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 Wow! I am suprsied that you guys are arguing over each others opinions. Ok, so some people don't like the set.. whatever the reason is, maybe they don't know or they don't want to say. This is fine. You don't have to hassle others just becuase you disagree with them. As for me, I said I don't really like the design of the set. I have no idea how good Lego's rendition of the ship is, it could be really good or it could be poor, but I just don't like the ships design. So why buy it if I would not like to have it displayed?? Hope you understand what I am trying to say. :) wondering if everyone has noticed that there are THREE curved wing parts on this set, and not two? Well, Tri fighter kinda implies that! :P Jon. Quote
Vader Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 Does anyone have good pics of a buzz droid?? Quote
sam89 Posted December 22, 2004 Author Posted December 22, 2004 I've seen a few, I'll go find them. Quote
jonfett Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 All I can find is some concept art - http://www.starwars.com/episode-iii... Jon. Quote
sam89 Posted December 22, 2004 Author Posted December 22, 2004 And here's another pic of it on a Jedi Starfighter: http://www.sithclan.net/SC4/write_access/d...3/buzzdroid.jpg Quote
Guybrush Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 Well, I WAS hoping for something blue to build, but this is a bit silly for my tastes. I smell a new snot piece. 1x2x1 with 2 studs on both sides. Also the new 2x4 double wedge plate intriques me. Hopefully it will come in halves too. Notice that the hemisphere pieces use clicky connectors instead of the older hinges. The journey to the clicky side is now complete. Quote
Vader Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 Well IMO legos version dosent look to good, hopefully ill be proven wrong. Quote
Guybrush Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 On reflection I think I have to agree with Collin. This is actually my favorite of the ep3 ships I've seen so far. While it is a little silly, it's certainly no sillier than any other SW designs (I'm looking at YOU, b-wing!) but it doesn't have the problem that the new JSF and Arc thingy do. It's not trying to look like the midpoint between two totally disparate designs. Both those ships suffer because they try to look like a midpoint between two two utterly different ships, and wind up looking entirely too complicated. Design doesn't evolve that way. The midpoint between a WWII tri-plane and the stealth bomber is not a triangular, 3-winged ship with propellers AND jet engines. If Lucas wanted the JSF to visibly evolve into the tie fighter he should've started it out looking more like one. Design doesn't evolve like a morphing animation. I think part of what makes it look so ugly is that the colors in the top pic are way off. The sand blue looks almost like Maersk (which while rare, is rather a butt-ugly color) Does anybody have any pics of the non lego version they could link to? (meaning the ship, not the droid) Quote
ApophisV Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 (I'm looking at YOU, b-wing!) :D :D :D Thanks you rescued a bad evening with a BAD sneak preview movie.... ;) ("The Legend of the Evil Lake"... |-/ ) For the set: - Shape: Erm.... Ugly, but interesting... I could imagine that this is supposed to be the successor of the Genosian Fighter, a weapon in the middle and three (instead of two) wings pointing (more or less) to the front.... :/ At least it fits a bit into the Genosian ships category.... - Colors: Fine, I always can use non-basic colors.... ;) - Parts: :oo Click hinges, those wedge plates (they look like one part... :( ), the sphere, and some interestingly printed tiles.... Looks good from what I can see.... :) - The droid: *wacko* Now, THIS is really ugly.... I think this thing shall be some crossover between a Matrix drone (forgot the name... :$) and a missile.... It's design is even worse... *sick* Quote
DoubleT Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 As you know Apu ;) Something ugly can be loved ;) Quote
Cello Collin Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 The midpoint between a WWII tri-plane and the stealth bomber is not a triangular, 3-winged ship with propellers AND jet engines. And why the hell not!? ;) You're right about the colors being wonky. I'm tellin' y'all, this is gonna be a real pretty little model in real life. EDIT: I got to thinking, and you know what's really cool? The arms are identical on each side of each arm. It sounds minor, but that really is a nifty little bit of... stuff. I dunno, I love this thing, shut up. :P Quote
Precious Jazz Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 I like the ship itself but that buzz droid isn't anything spectacular. This is probally going to be one of the last sets I pick up. Quote
Orlego Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 I will still purchase this set because I'm a sucker and must collect them all, it will just be placed at the back of my bookshelf. ;) Quote
Darkkazmo Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 Definitely this walker is much better than the previous attempt LEGO did with that weak AT-ST.. Plus it looks that LEGO did "borrow" some of those building techniques from some AFOL members that I know very well. ;) Great parts pack as well. Good work LEGO Quote
Darkkazmo Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 This is another great set for the new year. I'm sure I'll buying bunch of those. It packs a lot of useful great parts. Clicky hinges and those wedgie plates are always a must have. Quote
