If the Sandcrawler is "anything" like that so called prototype or made for fun modell that was seen in the LEGO Mania Magazine from a few years ago this will be a great set indeed. To do the Sandcrawler in any other way then the LEGO designers did that protype or made for fun modell would be a really big misstake. To do it the way Gareth "Guybrush" Bowler did his over at From Bricks to Bothans would be a big misstake as the set would be way to small and disappointing. The LEGO figures aren't really scale figures and none of the vehicles and spaceships aren't really scale models or in scale with each other but some scale ought to be concidered. The Sandcrawler is a rather huge vehicle and should be done quite huge as well in order to do justice to the design and details. Okay, I know that LEGO is being made for and aimed at children and younger teenagers but there's also a lot of adult builders and collectors. No matter what cathegory any of you guys belong to I assume that many of you would want a decent "scale" model of the Sandcrawler or at least I would want one. Then again if you guys look at that prototype or made for fun modell it isn't really that large as an R2-D2 unit is placed at the loading ramp but it sure looks darn nice anyway. To do it with plates like the AT-AT would also be another big misstake and the choice of using bricks is to me at least a very wise decision.

Have any of you guys ever noticed that the so called prototype or made for fun modell of the Sandcrawler looks like a finished product ready for distribution? It's designed the same way the MTT was with odd colors and like a huge play set.

Kindest regards,

Lars "Sweden" Olsson in Sundsvall, Sweden.

Well, Lego did a much better job on their AT-AT than Gareth predicted, so I hope this happens again.

Maybe they finalized the design, and just waited for the right time to release it as a set. Though it would've made more sense to release it last year, when there were so few new Star Wars sets.

From a marketing perspective, it's a smart move. Assuming that they knew about the color change, and knowing that the sandcrawler is mostly brown, they probably decided (wisely) that releasing it in 2005 would be smart. Think about it; half the appeal would be for the coolness of a Star Wars set, and half the appeal would be for the first REAL new brown parts-pack. This would make it attractive to the mainstream LEGO market as well. ;)

It would be great to have this set made primarily of bricks. That way I could really build my new brown collection when Wal-Mart has this baby marked down to $30 after Christmas. :P ;)

I am hoping for an AT-AT / AT-ST style Sandcrawler... :P I dunno why, but somehow I like this plate-covering system more than the classic brickbuild one, propably because models made from brick walls are more difficult to shape nicely angled...

And by using plates as hull there will be even more space in the inside for a nice interior with looooots of details and droids!!!! *wub*

(Damn I think the chance to see the crawler I already have in my mind when the set is released is almost zero..... :| Otherwise 1500 parts... mmhh.....)

It most likely won't be sold at Wal-mart. It'll be an S@H Exclusive.

S@H & Lego Store at least. I will still get my 30% off :P ;)

Luckily I have a Lego Store about half-an-hour away from me :-D

i've just seen a drawing of the "real" turbo tank on "star wars.com"... i'm quite happier with the lego set now. it's simply not a GREAT design... sure... it's not bad...

but what is it supposed to do? just driving around in the desert? I can't really see any big gun or a turret, so i'll assume that it's more of an armored transport vehicle, not a tank.

one of the pictures of the tank on "legacek" shows the interior of the cockpit.... hm... there's this (yellow?) trooper sitting in there with two pistols in his hand? So... who's doing the driving? and where's the steering wheel or computer to control this thing?

I feel that the AT AT was a bit more sophisticated than this tank. however, i will buy it anyway! it's a great resource for all sorts of parts i can use for MOCs! if TLC is going to release this one in Belgium anyway. i never saw one AT TE in any shop in Antwerp! Eventually i bought one in germany.

Well the tank is supposed to be a trooper carrier that would be later replaced by the at-at, lego has made this vehicle look very good and i for one shall be buying a few.

You are right about the driver though, no sign what so ever of a steering wheel so i guess its auto pilot all the way :-D ;)

Hehe, snefroe, I could tell you where an AT-TE is still hanging around at a local supermarket here in Aachen, but I won't since I hope for some bank accident that gives me 89,99 Euros... ;)

(Don't worry I will tell you what store it is if you want to... ;) Besides they also still have the Gunship and the Yoda sculpture.... I wish I had 300 Euro.... :| )

But lets get back on topic (at least as much as I can.... :$)

I would really like to own the AT-AT, the -TE and the Turbo Tank and have them all displayed next to each other... :oD THis should look soooo great.... :')

Heck i cant wait to add the tank to my display next to the at-at and at-te, i try to keep all the clonetrooper sets together.

It just looks so cool to see them all togther, like a real force to be reckoned with.

I will check TRU today and report back any findings. Damn I'm going to need more bookshelves and a bigger room after this year. ;)

That really is a problem when collecting all the big Sw sets, just having the at-at, at-te, rgs and the arc all together im really running out of space now and by the end of the year im gonna have to put up even more shelves.
