Why would we want a hayfork? when we've already got this:

4496.jpg

(And yes I know it's a pitchfork)

Simply because it's not included in the excellent 10193 Medieval Market Village set (or am I wrong?) and because it's a very important accessory for a medieval town.

I would enjoy having a town hall with a prison and a church. The criminal that I want would go in the prison, and the priest could lead the church, and perhaps lead the soldiers into battle. What, haven't you ever heard of warrior-priests?! Oh and I would also like more cargo and market stands, all the more to be plundered by the forces of darkness. One more thing that would be cool is more peasants. One like the city one would be very nice.

Rather than a church, perhaps a monastery or an abbey would be a good idea. A bunch of monks would be better than a priest I think.

Gotta get some more peasants in there too - I agree.

I unfortunately think that they will not put any add-on for next year, simply because people will either not be able to afford it and children might not be interested. If the latter is true, and they don't even like the original, then they'll lose even more money. Hey, we have different mentalities then the focus group. They might not like this as much as we do!

I suspect the introductions of add-ons will depend on how well this set does. It should do really well as it's a fantastic looking set - and really playable with it, if you like the whole mediaeval thing, (which I do very much). Bit pricey in the UK though, grumble, grumble...

Only a rhetorical question which should not discriminate against any person or any religion:

When TLG is afraid of a church being too political then why have they released the Taj Mahal since it's the expression of a religion, too? :sceptic:

Honestly, I think it's a matter of context. I don't think LEGO would have an issue releasing a model of Notre Dame for example. On the other hand I can imagine several parents becoming upset by a church mixed in with a theme that incorporates orcs, witches, dwarves and the undead. It's not that a church is too political, but rather the fantasy context of the current castle line may not sit well with some individuals. Just my opinion mind you.

The target audience I suppose was AFOLs, but I was thinking in general about the broader audience. But you may be right, this set does contain two knights. Those always help, but there faces are kind of generic. I want different faces..

I think a bar of some sort, though not really a bar because of kids, would be cool too. Some guys get drunk and you could have a village brawl. All the glory of those, with lots of people thrown into carts. And someone could get pushed into the old man. Hahahaa... yeah.

Why would monks be better than a priest? I'm kind of curious about that, since they generally appear to be the same. Religious devotes. I would probably use my bishop from the old Castle Chess Set as the priest. He unfortunately got replaced by the Good Wizard, whom I've yet to obtain since that Impulse Set is not available in the US! TLG can't possibly thing children here won't like wizards!

I would be very surprised if they added onto this concept, of course happily surprised though! But this is on the same token as if you would have told me a week ago that Lego was going to unveil a medieval village complete with new accessories, plenty of villagers, without any catapults, I would have said you were crazy.

This is a double edged sword for me (much like the one that blacksmith forges  ). On one hand, I feel as though this was something to satisfy those of us who have been longing for such a thing, and not something they are going to build upon. Castle seems like a theme that has had the focus on a younger audience, with a few various things thrown in for AFOLs to see the value in it again. It just seems like 10193 would almost have to have it's own line for additions to continue coming.

On the other hand, I see this with Castle as Cafe Corner and the rest of those incredible buildings are to the City theme. The thing is, I can't see Green Grocer along side of the newest police station as well as I can see these beautiful new medieval buildings next to the latest castle. Star Wars has a great mix of large special sets mixed in with the ordinary line, and the thing is, they look great with eachother. If Lego was going to put out further sets along the lines of the market village, one every year or so, that would be great!

It's a shame, though, that the regular castle line can't be designed in the style of the market village. I can see the rumored Orc stronghold as a fancy outer wall on one side, and not much on the other, much like the bandits hideout was in the Ninja line. Back on topic though...

I'd love to see a bakery! Those neat bread pieces and croissants with a hard-at-work baker. As far as when could an add-on be released? I honestly couldn't see it happening before 2010. Lego goes into production long before the release, and until the marketing department sees how well this sells, any idea for additions wouldn't escape the design room until summer, and then production through the fall into winter, and possible pics leaked late '09 and finally hitting S@H in the spring. Obviously this is all coming from someone who has no clue what really goes on behind closed doors in the corporate office, and they could have a slew of prototypes ready to go.

Overall, I would love to see this type of set continue with additions, but as has been said before, civilian sets haven't play tested well during pre-production. I really think this was a one time only deal to appease AFOLs, but I would love nothing more than to be proven wrong on that!

(No flick-fire missiles in my bakery though! )

That pitchfork is gone because they lost the mold for it guys. The way for them to get it back is to design a new one by replicating the old one as best as they can. Finally, they would also need a good reason to make a piece that is only usable for this theme. I want it to come back though =\ it's a great piece.

I don't know - I can just picture a mediaeval monk better than a priest. What did priests look like in the middle ages? I can just see a bunch of monks wandering around drinking mead and fighting off thieves with their pitchforks.

The biggest difference between a monk and a priest is that monks live secluded in a monastery, while priests take care of churches and the congregation. I don't think that has changed since the middle ages.

So what type of minifig to use depends wholly on what type of a religious building you're going to build.

Question 1 - Bakery, Water Mill, Church, Butchers Shop.

Question 2 - Yes, next year (1 set).

Question 3 - Perhaps (If I have the money!).

Question 4 - Draw Well, Hay Fork, More Animals, More Food.

Question 5 - More women In general, more kids in general, more townsfolk in general.

Man, I like basically all the ideas on that list, but I had to pick some favorites.

I'd like a baker for the market place, just as the blacksmith it is one of the basic buildings in a medieval village. I hope i can buy all the sets of this line; otherwise, i'll have to do it with 10193

as i could vote for a number of buildings i did.

i found it odd that there were no wind-mill option, so i voted other for that one.

as for more releases, that would depend entirely on how good the medieval market sells

(same as the modular town buildings really) but i doubt they will make a new set this year(2009)

unless they pull a market street.

i would like to think that i would buy anything similar to medieval market that tlc spits out.

but getting a job, moving and buying transportation will likley put a dent in my lego spending.

Thank you all for your many votes and comments! :sweet: I didn't expect a so big interest!

Here are now at long last my votes:

Which ideas would you prefer?

Bakery

Pharmacy

Shop (non-food)

Town Hall With Little Prison

At the first place for me would be a bakery. A bakery would fit perfectly in the great 10193 set. And it would offer some - perhaps even new - food pieces and a central part of a city - the maintenance with food. And btw I think that a bakery would be very in demand by JFOLs, too. And since these medieval sets can not only be used for the Castle theme but even for the City and Pirates theme, too.

At the second place for me would be a town hall with little prison. Every town - if medieval or modern - needs a town hall. Combined with a little prison as addition to the governor's office inside it would even include an element which is interesting for JFOLs (there might be some function that the wall can brake and the prisoner can escape).

Do you think that there will be some add-ons in the future?

Yes. Next year (2009). One add-on.

But I must say that I'm not very sure. Firstly a long time after I had posted this topic I realised that this question with the possible answers is really a bit too much point of speculation. But now it's here - so:

I think finding a solution is here very difficult. To the different possiblities:

1. There might be one add-on already in 2009. TLG might - like sombody already mentioned - have thought about the brilliant 10193 set as a big set to begin a whole line of exclusive medieval sets in comparison to the CC styled buildings in the Creator/City theme. If so, they might have planed to do the same with which they did with the CC styled buildings last year: One big set in the beginning of the year and one not that big set in summer. Surely TLG awaited a huge enthusiam among the (mainly) AFOL community with the excellent Medieval Market Village. So why should they leave it at only one set whereas there are lots of good ideas and possibilities to release more sets which the (mainly) AFOL community surely would buy, too?!

2. Imo it's unrealistic to believe that there'll be more than one add-on in 2009 since this would surely go beyond the scope of the producing capability of Lego and even go beyond the scope of the money which many AFOLs can use for Lego sets.

3. It might even be that there'll firstly will be an add-on in 2010 because TLG firstly wants to wait how this awesome set sells - and firstly after let's say about around summer then decide whether they'll release an add-on (which they by that time already must have designed) in 2010 or not. In 2011 or later it's very unrealsitic to believe that TLG will release an add-on because then there would be a break of minimum one year - and that's surely not sales-promotional.

4. I don't think - and mainly do really not hope - that TLG will not release add-ons on this brilliant set. But of course you can't be sure and it shall only be a "stand-alone". Imo this would be very stupid from TLG because 1. they would give away a lot of profits since (mainly) AFOLs would really, really like to buy some add-ons (which you can see on the reaction on this my topic and The Rancor's great topic) and 2. a lot of AFOLs surely would be very disappointed and angry if there isn't an add-on.

Would you buy some add-ons to 10193 Medieval Market Village?

Yes. At all events.

Of course I would buy every possible add-on as long as it doesn't include any fantasy stuff (like in the regular new "Castle" sets) and as long as it is in the same "style" as the amazing 10193 Medieval Market Village (meaning including nice interior in the houses, minifigs and the hinge system).

Which accessory would you like to be included in the add-ons?

Draw Well

Hayfork

More Market Stands

More Carriages

Don't be angry with me - but it's really a shame that (after my knowledge) in this long time of the Castle theme (I don't mean only the last two years but all the time when Lego Castle sets have been released) there has been (despite from the little fountain in the big castle of the king from 1995/1996) no draw well although every castle had to include a draw well in order to maintenance its knights, soldiers, buttlers, ... with water when there was a siege. :cry_sad: Consequently a draw well is really needed. The best would be to have a draw well on a seperate disc (like the big tree in the amazing 10193) so you can put it where you want to.

It's really a pity that the mold of the old nice hayfork is gone. I had luck and bought two of them at an auction on ebay. But it's very seldom that they appear there - and if any then mostly at a totally overpriced price. To design exactly the same hayfork as the one which was included in some few Classic Castle sets is surely nearly impossible. But what about a newer, perhaps more modern and in grey color painted version? This hayfork then could be used for the great City Farm theme, too, where it regrettably really lacks, too.

More market stands are a must. I shouldn't be unfriendly and should be happy that we actually got one - but only one market stand is for a whole market (even if it's only in a little medieval town) much to less.

More carriages are really needed, too. What about a carriage filled with vegetables? And/Or what about a carriage for the princess and/or the king? (I already thought about a year ago why TLG doesn't release a "Castle" set with the princess'/king's carriage and some bad knights to attack it - like they did in the Duplo theme?!) And/Or what about a smuggler's car - a carriage with some (beer) barrely on top and a secret compartment in the underbody of the carriage filled with gold/jewels/...?

Which new minifigs/characters would you like to be included?

Baker

Shop Owner

Night Watchman

Governor

Pharmacist

More women in general

More kids in general

More Town Folk in general

Tax Collector

Nothing special to say here.

Since for a bakery, a shop, a town hall and a pharmacy a baker, a shop owner, a governor and a pharmacist are needed they should be new minifigs.

A night watchman and a tax collector (which was zorro3999's great idea) would be a nice and senseful addition, too.

More women, more kids and more town folk in general is really needed, too.

To put it in a nutshell:

The most I'd like to see a bakery  , then a town hall with little prison (inside) and then a shop and a pharmacy.

As additional stuff I'd like to see mainly a draw well and the comeback of a hayfork. And of course more market stands and more carriages.

As minifigs I'd prefer a baker, a governor (for the town hall), a shop owner, a pharmacist, a night watchman and a tax collector. And of course more women, kids and more town folk in general would be great.

But of course I'd like to see all (the) other ideas for houses, additional stuff and minifigs becoming true, too.

I personally think that there surely - and hopefully - will be one add-on for about half of the price of the awesome 10193 Medieval Market Village either already in 2009 (which would be much better) or then in 2010. :sceptic:

I would buy every possible add-on as long as it doesn't include any fantasy stuff and as long as its houses include nice interior and the hinge system.:thumbup:

Thanks for reading this short comment (:laugh: )! :sweet:

The market set won't even be out for three more months, and you're already speculating on what's next.

Glad to see I'm not the only one!

The upcoming market set looks great and kudos to TLG for bringing it to us! As for this poll, the windmill, bakery, and church got my vote. Not only would they go well with the market, but they would be easy to use with the pirate sets and modern city sets also. Yes, a church might ruffle some religious feathers, but a medieval church would look good in any western city. A city hall with prison would be nice, but I've got a castle with a dungeon already.

As for minifigs--more women! After all, the men need something to fight over :skull:

A bakery and a church with a well, on the same scale as the current set.

Minifigs should include a baker, preist, soldier, another kid and a woman.
