Sir Dillon Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Just a reminder to please stay on topic guys. There are other places you can discuss elves and other possible factions. Quote
Stash2Sixx Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 I kind of like the three options. Like many have said, the first torso for Archers/Crossbowmen, the second torso for axemen/spearmen, and the third torso for whatever. Doesn't really matter though, my Orc army would just stomp right through them and leave nothing but blood! Quote
Doom Saber Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 I also was curious of what to use the third torso, but after seein that the new torso are in sets that involves them holding treasure (village) and another transporting weapons (Orc Wagon,) I guess I can have these as units who transport things or those who are not defending the castle; sort of like a group that does diplomcy or hauling money around. I mean, the seige set uses the 2007 torso of the crown guard. That pattern might be used for crown ppl who guard the castle while the new one is used as an offensive group. The other zets like the battlewheel and the army builder set do use the new torso, but the latter is a set to build an army of the new torso(olike how the impulse orc set is for those to buy more of the new factions) sorry if I am sentence structure iz not makin sense but my obsessive compulsive disorder is actin up since I am under a lot of stress I thought the old infantry torso was better because of the detail, but that doesn't mean that the new one is bad! Usually it depends in what mood I am what role the new torso guys take. Unfortunately for them, they're almost always equal or less than the regular soldiers in terms of strength.1. Archers, crossbowmen, artillery managers 2. Regular Infantry (Men-at-Arms) 3. Traveling Infantry (for example to the Dwarven Mines), Squires I actually arrange those guys sometimes to be like a knight's entourage. Extra guys usually go to the lead general, just cause. On the uniformity issue, I would actually like to have all my soldiers have armor. Big dream, yes, but I would like that. And the helmet would probably be the crossbowman helmet as well, since I like those. The only non-uniformity thing, which is where impulse sets kind of fail, is I like different faces. Oh, and now I'm officially a citizen :D That's what I was ponderin as well because of how the sets appear to have the new pattern of guards hauling stuff like wagons and gold while the previous torsos are used in defending a tower. Norro Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 I'm all for variety.I actually like the third torso. It has a classic feel to it and helps integrate the new crownies well with earlier castle lines. Don't forget that for much of the middle ages surcoats (displaying a knight's coat-of-arms) were worn over top of any armour or chain mail. While I like the other torso prints as well, I don't see the problem with the newer ones (which actually look better IMO). If you have an issue with the new torsos, why not treat those figs as squires or heralds? I only wish we had some new (human) factions as the Crown knights are getting pretty repetitive on the whole. Much as I hate bulk quoting, blueandwhite managed to say everything I was thinking (on the subject) in one tidy little paragraph. Thanks! God Bless, Nathan Quote
pedro Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 (edited) I don't think these are meant to be shirts as such, but tabards which knights often used to wear over their armour, with an aventail protecting the neck lying over the tabard. If you look through some historical knight and armour reference you'll see what I'm talking about. Technically these knights still have their armour on - just underneath their tabard I think any alternate torsos are a nice addition to the variety on offer for the Crown Knights, whether you like one particluar torso for regimented displays or the personalisation as historical battles would have seen. I was about to say I like No.3 but theyre not armoured but then I read this! I dont know I would only use No.1 for Archers or artillery or something And No.2 I would probable use for Heavy Infantry I need more castle sets... And I prefer Crown Knights instead of Dwarves..
