Dragonator Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Hey everyone, My local club, if you can call us that, is holding our annual Lego show and building contest this weekend. The details are as follows. Where: Coastlands Shoppingtown, next to McDonalds. Kapiti Coast (north of Wellington) New Zealand Kapiti is around a 40 minute drive north of Wellington. The shopping complex is hard to miss, it is right on the main road. What is this? It is a show, nothing like the size of BrickCon, but still a fairly large one (the largest in NZ at least). The show is also a competition, in which people bring in their models and display them to win fabulous prizes, kindly donated by The Lego Group and Toyworld (yeah, I had to say that bit). Entry is free. If you have a model, and you want to bring it along, feel free! There are prizes to be won, I remember last year's first prize was a $100 set. So, if you have something made, or if you can throw something together quickly, bring it along! Registration is being held from 10am till 5.30pm on Friday, and the show is open to the public on Saturday the 11th of October from 9am till 5.30pm, and on Sunday from 10am till 4pm. The prize giving will be held at 3pm on Sunday. So, if you don't want to compete, you should come along for a look as well, I'll be there both days, so it'll be a nice chance to meet some of you who live locally. We have models coming from as far as Whanganui, and hopefully we'll have the Taj Mahal, Death Star play set and Giant Castle Chess set on display. That is not confirmed yet, but hey, we'll try our best. Oh, and the Eiffel Tower too. This may not sound exciting to you people in Europe, but for us in little old NZ, we can't buy these sets in store or anything, so it's a good chance to get a look at them. As well as that, there will be 23 tables (hopefully) filled with Lego models, including a large Hoth diorama for those Star Wars fans, and my own Lego Château, if I ever find enough roof tiles to finish the damn thing. I need a black dragon head as well. I cannot believe I only own three! Right, what else do you want to know? Oh yes, the competition is split into four age groups, they are: 5-8yrs 9-12yrs 13-18yrs Adults So, there's fun for people of all age groups! Except under 5s, sorry guys and girls... As well as prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, there is also a peoples choice award. So come on in and vote for your favourite model! Just make sure it's my castle. In case your interested, here is a link to the promotional poster. I hope it works. Right, that's about everything, if you have any questions, then please feel free to ask. Other than that, I expect to see all 4000 of our members there on Friday registering models, or on Saturday and Sunday voting for my castle. Well, it would be nice if a couple of you could make it. See you there! Oh, and I don't suppose some kindly staff member might possibly be able to front page this? That way we might get more than 2 people to turn up. -ator Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 (edited) Sounds like fun. I may go, if I actually manage to get something built. Edited October 8, 2008 by TinyPiesRUs Quote
Dragonator Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 Sounds like fun. I may go, if I actually manage to get something built. Great! I look forward to seeing you there, and if you don't manage to build anything, you should come along anyway, there's some great stuff to see. NZ Events ON! Quote
WhiteFang Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 I will love to come to Wellington. It's been 18 months since I came to NZ. I assmued you will be bringing Ravine Tavern along. Quote
Dragonator Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 I will love to come to Wellington. It's been 18 months since I came to NZ. I assmued you will be bringing Ravine Tavern along. Now that would be awesome if you flew all the way here just to come to this. I can ask one of my dragon friends to give you a ride if you like. No, I won't be bringing the tavern along, as I unfortunately had to destroy it to build my most recent creation, Lord Dragonator's new Château/castle/whatever it is. It doesn't have a name yet, but it will do soon. I'll take pictures and put it up here of course, and you can all tell me what you think. It is the largest creation I have ever made, and only my second serious MOC, but I think it's turned out OK, and I would appreciate the comments and criticism. I tell you, it has been pretty hard work! I've been working on it for just over a month, and I must say the hardest part is that I keep running out of pieces! Anyway, more on that when I finish the roof and take pictures. I'm looking forward to you coming! Quote

If you ever want to see me down here, I think you will probably need to wait for at least 2 years before I have plans to make a trip to NZ again. I am much familar with Auckland, and able to navigate myself around, if I remembered the public transport well enough. It's sad to know that you have tore down Ravine Tavern. It was one of my favourite Castle mocs and it was actually used and featured in EBRP. All the fun interactions we had, back with Lord Calvin and Lord Dragonator. Now, I know our Draggy is doing something massive which bound to stun us all with your draggy breath. I am very sure it will look awesome. Look forward to it. Quote

Dragonator Posted October 9, 2008 Author Posted October 9, 2008 (edited) Today's the day people! Bring those models down from 10am on, and we'll put them on display for you. I'm looking forward to seeing if anyone from here does actually make it, or whether my advertising was for nothing. Anyway, I'll have my castle there, so if you do manage to bring in a model, you'll get a nice little peck at it before I post it on here. For those of you not entering a model, make sure you come along tomorrow or on Sunday and vote for my model have a good look around. It should be fun. I'll take lots of pictures for those people in other countries that can't make it. Not that you'll be that excited after what went on at BrickCon, but I'll do it anyway... See you there! MagPiesRUs Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Unfortunately I didn't get around to making anything, so I won't be entering the contest. However, I will come up on Sunday to have a look at the entries and displays. Quote

However, I will come up on Sunday to have a look at the entries and displays. Cool, Ilook forward to you coming. A lot of the displays are kids entries, however we do have the Taj, Statue of Liberty and Eiffel Tower on display, plus my own model, another town thingy, and the Hoth diorama, of which I am proud to say I contributed to. I did the laser blasts in the snow, and a couple of other details. We're going to position all the minifigs tomorrow, which should be fun. Another guy brought some awesome trucks too. Oh, and make sure you vote for me! Quote
Legoman Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 (edited) So everyone hows it going? i really look forward to hearing about it. Hopefully the next one is a bit closer, say... christchurch? Edited October 11, 2008 by legoman Quote
Dragonator Posted October 12, 2008 Author Posted October 12, 2008 The event went great, and I'm happy to say that I won my category. I'll have my entry up on here soon. I took lots of pictures, and if anyone is interested, I'll put up a topic about the awesome Hoth base in the Star Wars forum. Just probably not for a few more days. As for next year, the competition will be held in the same place, but in early July. Sorry legoman. Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 Congratulations on the win, it was well deserved. Your chateau was superb. Quote
Dragonator Posted October 12, 2008 Author Posted October 12, 2008 Congratulations on the win, it was well deserved. Your chateau was superb. Thanks. Did you like the Hoth diorama? Sorry I didn't see you around anywhere, it was pretty hectic and so I was probably a little busy. You might have seen me at the desk or wandering around handing out voting forms etc. Anyway, it was a big success, and I'm already planning for next year. I'm thinking of making a large medieval village, which will double for the set in Mystery Castle 2 (hint hint ). Quote
Stash2Sixx Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 I'd like to see the pictures when you get them up. No rush of course, just shoot me the link so I know where to go. I'm slow as hell at gettin' pics up. I got a boatload from BrickCon last weekend and I just need to get them up somewhere, once I get an easy to use program to resize all these pics! Quote

I'll look forward to seeing what you make next year. Hopefully I'll be able to enter too. Quote
Dragonator Posted October 12, 2008 Author Posted October 12, 2008 Yes, the Hoth diorama was great. Did you say you made the marks in the snow?I'll look forward to seeing what you make next year. Hopefully I'll be able to enter too. Yeah, I did the laser holes and some of the snowing on the mountain. Oh, and the snowtrooper running away from the trench was my idea as well. I also helped him work on the shape of the trench, which was pretty tricky. So, not much, but at least I can say I did something. I wanted to put a BrickForge cow on top of one of the AT-ATs, but he wouldn't let me do that for some weird reason... Yeah, it would be cool if you could enter next year. Quote

So, not much, but at least I can say I did something. Ah yes, the trench was very nice. I especially liked the cables and cords running to the power generator, as well as the light-up bricks indoors and the crashed snowspeeder. I wanted to put a BrickForge cow on top of one of the AT-ATs, but he wouldn't let me do that for some weird reason... What, hasn't he seen the movies? Quote
Legoman Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 WHA????? The hoth base is on TM! Does anyone know whos selling it, is it anyone on here? I must say, it's amazing! I'll probably put a bid in - or a few... hundred bids I just can't explain what i'm feeling its so amazing.Does anyone know what he's looking for it ($) Quote
Dragonator Posted October 13, 2008 Author Posted October 13, 2008 (edited) Yeah, he wants ***** for it, or at least that's what he's hoping for. He's a bit over Star Wars after all that, which is why he is selling it. That and he doesn't know what to do with all the thousands of white 1x1 plates. EDIT: ON second thoughts, I'd say he probably want the reserve kept a secret. Edited October 13, 2008 by Dragonator Quote
Legoman Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I already found out Well, a very educated guess anyway. I vwant that MOC Quote

Make sure you check out the Youtube video at http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=EepCyNQJpCQ, and Brickshelf (when the folder goes public.......) under user name harmacy1. The show was really really good - Dragonators Castle build was freaking sweet!, but the standard of all entries was amazing. Bring on the next show..... Quote
