KimT Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 I am going to Berlin next week and wondered if anyone know any good stores for LEGO shopping in the city center? I'll be visiting LEGOland Discovery Centre naturlich and check the store there, but I think it's a great opportunity to do some serious shopping as well. Help Me! Hilfe Mich! Please add the adress of the store as well
-JD- Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Try this: http://service.lego.com/en-us/Storelocator/Default.aspx If it isn't there, try the 'find a store near you' option. Hope I helped. J
Zorro Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 SPIELE MAX AG, as written down in the Lego store locator, I go to germany at least once every year, and have been in Berlin for a dozen of times. (I mainly go there to shop anyways so...) I always shopped at Spiele MAX gruppe, there are at least 3 Spiele Max stores located in Berlin I can recall, probably a lot more... Spiele Max looks a bit like "Bart Smit" toystores. This is their online link, you can find their adresses here as well (and on TLC store locater, as said) They often have a larger Lego collection in their stores, mostly even some older models ! Spielmax Have fun shopping in Berlin. ICH BIN KEIN BERLINER ! (zorro3999)
Dfenz Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 (edited) I was in Berlin last December 2007 and stayed just off the main shopping street where a number of department stores had excellent Lego sections. The Discovery centre was disappointing. The following is the post I made in another thread about Berlin lego shops back then. I'd add that I found an excellent hobby shop on a side street near the Swissotel (behind C&A) that stocked current Lego sets and was selling many of them at a 20% discount (for cash). regards David Given that this post refers specifically to Lego in Berlin it might be useful to repost some comments I made in the 'what did you buy today thread' (see below). I don't think you missed much at the Discovery Centre although if you have a 2007 Merlin or Legoland annual pass you might be able to get in for free. There are a few non-Christmas giant lego displays in the Sony centre including a giraffe. Not sure if you managed to get over to the Department Store at Alexanderplatz but there was an excellent castle display there last week when I visited. David "As an aside I also got a small amount of bits and pieces at Legoland Discovery Centre Berlin. But it wouldn't have been worth the entry fee if I had to pay into it. Fortunately I was allowed to use my 2007 annual pass from Gunzburg to get in for free but its pretty lame in my view and unlikely to generate much repeat business except for those with annual passes trying to kill an hour or two with kids. It is badly located within the Potsdamer Platz complex from a retail perspective, mostly underground with no shop open to the general public except through the cinema which wasn't open when we visited meaning that its only customers were coming from the discovery centre itself. Only the exiting elevators from the cinema were operating!! What a lame idea to have a discovery centre that does not have a high profile lego shop readily accessible (FOC) to the public. In any case the shop itself was nothing to write home about - ridiculously expensive with a very limited range especally when compared to the three Department stores, Wertheim, KadeWe and Gallerie (in Alexander Platz) that had extensive selections. By far the best display is in the Gallerie centre adjacent to the Alexander Platz train station where there is an absolutely amazing moving castle display with the skellies storming the King's castle over a ravine - the cliffs, caves, and lava effects in particular are brilliant. I took some pics which I'll try and post when I get a chance." PS there are some additional comments on this in the Eurobricks event thread in the past day or so! regards[/i] Edited October 8, 2008 by Dfenz

Spielmax Yes, I can recommend Spiele Max as well! That's where I used to go for most of my Lego needs when I was living in Berlin, and they had some good sales from time to time! For instance, they are having a 20% sale on all Lego from the 20th to the 25th, so I really hope that you'll be there during that time! This is the one that I always went to: Schloßstraße 1 Berlin, BE 13467 Germany +49 (0)30 790 1290 Open Hours: 10a-8p M-F, 9a-4p Sa And yes, the Discovery Centre store sucks. Viel Spaß und auf Wiedersehen!
Holodoc Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 I was in Berlin last December 2007 and stayed just off the main shopping street where a number of department stores had excellent Lego sections. The Discovery centre was disappointing. Exactly my impression! I´ve been to the LLDC in Duisburg - see my description here. I would bet my head the one in Berlin isn´t very different from it. As for more shops: I´d try the ordinary suspects: Galleria Kaufhof, Karstadt - (they´ve got some Lego sets on sale right now), TRU, etc. Have fun in Berlin!
brickzone Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 I have just myself booked a trip to Germany! Going to Munich just before Christmas for some shopping. I found the "usual suspects" fantastic last time I was there - one of them even had a pick-a-brick section (I hope it still does) - think it was Karstadt. I wish we had such department stores in Ireland. They are absolutely wonderful for Christmas shopping and getting a range of items for people, and the toy sections in general are fantastic - not just the Lego section. They seem to have far more traditional and interesting items rather than cheap junk (which the main toy stores here have aisles of). I love the Christmas atmosphere there too. Reminds me of how it used to be here in Ireland at Christmas time (now it is pretty much entirely just marketing - even from Sept in some cases). Also, nowhere has more delicious Christmas food than Germany/Bavaria.

Also, nowhere has more delicious Christmas food than Germany/Bavaria. I agree 100%! The Christmas atmosphere (and food) in Germany is fantastic! It's the thing that I miss most about Germany. And it's true that the toys there are of much better quality too, like pretty much everything in Germany. Why the megablocks do you people have to be so crazy about quantity here in America? Oh well... Back on topic: I don't remember there being a PAB in the Karstadt in Berlin, but I haven't been there for over 3 years now, so that might have changed. But it's true that their Lego section is pretty good. There is a Karstadt very close to the Spiele Max that I recommended above. Its address is Schloßstraße 1, 12163 Berlin. I do remember, however, that KaDeWe used to have a small PAB section. KaDeWe is located at Tauentzienstr. 21-24, 10789 Berlin, and it's opening hours are these: Monday - Thursday 2008 10am - 8pm January - October 2008 Friday 10am - 9pm Saturday 9.30am - 8pm
