Hmm I think I'll need a section without walls to build, I don't have the pieces for the top of the walls , or maybe I'll do without it and we'll suppose that I have it ^^

My only problem with the new wall is the baseplate - I only have one of those green small flat baseplates. I have loads of stackable baseplates, though, but in my experience the two types of baseplates can't be put side to side very well...

I still question why everything has to be located right next to the outer wall, too. Why can't some of the buildings be standalone?

But I'm more interested in continuing with the rooms for keep, anyway, so it's not such a big problem.

I would say just do it without and we can all assume they're there. Since it's just at the very top of the wall, it doesn't really affect anything and can be easily added.

That's a good point. Maybe if I'm told to do a version 5 of the layout there can be some buildings (houses maybe?) that stand alone. That would probably make the castle look really nice. We'll see what ISC has to say about this...

The pictures of the Wizard's Tower I made are now on show in the Team Beta topic!

And since Trash requested it, here's what I was thinking for the layout of the castle:

West Wing: 1st Floor

Kitchen

Wine Cellar

Servant's Quarters

West Wing: 2nd floor

Dining Hall

War Room

Middle Part: 1st floor

Entrance Hall

Great Staircase

Middle Part: 2nd floor

Knights' Quarters

Middle Part: 3rd floor

Throne Room

East Wing: 1st floor

Library

Guest Chambers

East Wing: 2nd floor

Royal Chamber

Princess' Chamber

East Wing: 3rd floor

Wizard's Tower

Treasury

And of course there's the Courtyard and the Gatehouse in the middle of the keep. How does these sound, everybody?

I like those ideas Sandy. As promised, I'll get out the old drawing board and see what I can come up with...

EDIT: Here it is!

NOTE: The following is just a proposal for a possible layout for the keep of the castle. The layout and list are not final unless ISC puts them in the first post.

2965374588_4a0cdd92ce.jpg

2965374552_3be0dcb054.jpg

That slight change in numbers would cause the list to be updated like this:

1. Main Gatehouse - Dragonator

2. Oil Smelter

3. Bakery - Erdbeereis

4. Jester’s Joke Shop – Thrash

5. Wizards’ Guild – Adam

6. Thieves Guild - Thrash

7. Tavern – Captain Green Hair

8. Apothecary

9. Adventurers Guild - GloriusShadow

10. Brothel

11. Dungeon

12. Torture Chamber - Pickerel

13. Alchemist – Thrash, Pickerel, Quarryman

14. Troll Embassy - Thrash

15. Tax Collector

16. Back Gatehouse - Adam

17. Falconer - Lalande

18. Fighting Arena – I Scream Clone

19. Poleturner/Fletcher - randomparrot

20. Training Ground - sgt stickey

21. Barracks

22. Armory - Jifel, Guss

23. Blacksmith - Thrash

24. Tanner

25. Stables – Stash2sixx

26. Carpenter – Lasse D

27. Mason’s Guild - Stol

28. Monastery - Stol

29. Chapel - Stol

30. Mystery Play

40. Dock – Wouwie13, Captain Green Hair

50. Courtyard

51. Secondary Gatehouse - Pickerel

52. Servant's Quarters

53. Wine Cellar

54. Kitchen – Wouwie13, Erdbeereis1

55. Entrance Hall w/ Great Staircase

56. Secret Room

57. Library

58. Guest Chambers - randomparrot

61. Garderobe (Medieval Toilet)

62. War Room

63. Dining Hall

64. Knights' Quarters

65. King’s Chamber

66. Queen’s Chamber

67. Princess' Chamber - Sandy

71. Throne Room

72. Wizard's Tower - Sandy

73. Treasury - Dennimator

Other Ideas:

Knacker

Butcher

Jeweler

Archery Range

Physician

Barbershop

Fighters Guild

Gambling Den

The only changed to the numbers from V4 is that the Wizard Tower on the outer wall was changed to a Wizards' Guild since Sandy built such a nice Wizard tower in the keep.

Also, I'm assuming that the Secondary Gate will be a few stories high, and then the empty space on the 3rd floor will be used as a large catwalk.

What does everyone think?

Super.

One question: Is the wall meant to be primarily light or dark grey?

It would look strange having a primarily dark section next to a grey section.

So I think a decision on that would be very useful.

Fairly sure we'll go for light grey - just checking :classic:

When we decide to do EB Community Castle Build II, I suggest the organizers have decided such things beforehand. Just to ease the build.

Great work ISC trying to keep up with the vast amount of posts and comments.:thumbup:

Thanks KimT, It has been a challenge to get it all organised, but thouroughly enjoyable once you see the beautiful creations like Sandy's

So you are going to build now?

What would you like to try?

I thought you were holding off until PtV was finished?

You can use stackable plates, its not like we will join the up any time soon. You just keep doing your thing and let the others worry about the outer wall  Castle Keep Mistress

Nice start on the layout, I especially like how the dining room is directly above the kitchen, as often the wait staff were never even seen, sending food up via dumb waiters, which would be a great inclusion too.

That layout looks really good I think, the design of the keep is very satisfactory. I love the way your Wizard's Tower turned out Sandy!

I think I'll start on the Bakery first to get my bearings.

Again, thanks a lot ISC for organizing this and thanks Thrash for the really clear design plans! :classic:

yes, I almost forgot that I had to keep my PTV entry built if someone want me to photography some details ^^ , and there is a lot of details that you can't see with the actual pics^^

I was thinking about building something like the armoury (is it a 16x16 on the thrash layout ? am I right ? ) but as long as I'll not build until the end of the PTV, I'll think I'll take what remains.. and what the pieces I have allows me to build, but I think I can make it , maybe without the top of the walls, I can try to manage something to make it looks normal, I'll surely find a way as thrash noticed!

No problem! I have a lot of fun doing those designs. :classic:

Yessir, the armoury is on a 16x16. Even if someone's already done it by the time you get around to it, you can still give it a shot and let the community decide who's should be in the final layout!

Hi all,

I forgot to answer KimT's Question about the wall.

It should be predominately Light Bley with some dark bley features.

Cheers.

I will be away for 4 days next week starting monday, though it seems like all major questions have been answered, so keep enjoying the build people.

I don't have all that much light bley, is old light grey with some dark bley accents also ok?

Yeah I'd say so.

Though personally I'd prefer old light grey and old dark grey or new light grey and new dark grey.

Mixing new and old looks odd to me.

I'm in this position as well, as I don't have too many light bley pieces.

I would assume it's alright to mix the two since not all real stones are the same color.

Hmmzz, i think the light and darks mix very well...or shall we witch to yellow instead?

No need for witches.

But yes a switch to yellow would do me good, since I bought quite a few in the past 2 months.

I've got plenty of new dark and light grey, but no time right now. :hmpf_bad:

Honestly, you people keep finding questions that need answering :hmpf_bad:

Go for what ever grey you want, be it old or new light with dark highlights. It will still look like a castle wall.

Could you imagine a Yellow Castle IRL :grin:

Also, Roofing is to be in Black unless you have a damned good reason :laugh:

so what about the sandy's roof, they're sand-green (sandy-sandgreen ? ) , is that ok ? I think that is, because sand green and black roofs can be mixed .. I think ^^

Seems to be the consensus, Dragonator mentioned the same thing.

I have no problems with the Sand Green tiles.

Today I started building the new walls that ISC designed, and came across a few problems:

1. Since the demo that ISC made was 20 studs long instead of 16 studs like all of the outside wall sections will be, the position of the dark bley slants at the bottom will be uneven when all of the creations are put together.

2. People might not know which side to start from, which will cause more problems. If one person starts on the right and the other one the left, then we will end up with two in a row and then 4 studs on the other side that are low points.

3. Two studs wide is a bit narrow for the catwalk. Minifigs would fit a whole lot better if the catwalk was 3 studs wide like in the first few designs.

The below diagram illustrates these problems and possible solutions.

2969834422_7ecd7a1697.jpg

Besides fixing the problem of minifigs not really fitting, widening the catwalk would also create an overhang which gives the wall a little more character.

I, perhaps more so than anyone else, wanted a final wall design that would not be messed with, but I think that these problems (at least the first 2) are issues that need to be resolved early in the process so that they don’t create headaches for us later on. :classic:

I’m going away for the weekend, but I’ll be back on Sunday night when I can hopefully post my first MOC for the build!

Nice work Thrash, That makes a lot of sense to have double supports and single on each end.

The catwalk can easily be 4 wide if you use this brick 3660.gif every second 2 stud space just underneath the catwalk. This would work best under every peak.

Im on holidays for the next 4 days, though I might check in one more time today.

Putting it all together, I have deduced the following to be the standard for 16 stud wide outer sections:

Is this correct?

That's exactly what I had in mind! It might look strange if one section uses SNOT like that and not the rest (even though it does look awesome), but as far as the placement of the supports and everything, it's perfect.
