Here's a little WIP picture of the courtyard.

train_014.jpg

I want to fill it up a bit more, but I'm not sure what to add. Let me know if you have any suggestions. :classic:

ISC, I don't think I'm going to build anything for the CCCCCCCCVIIVSXS or whatever it is now. I'm not sure if I'll find the time and bricks to do it, but we'll see.

That fountain and tree looks really cool!

Do you have a close-up pic of the fountain(esp. the upper part) and one on how the tree is built?

What are the birds supposed to be? They are very cute! (I suppose you got the idea from The Penguin´s penguins. Um... that sounded wierd. )

That's a really sweet garden you have there! I have to say, though, that it isn't really suitable for a courtyard. Courtyard is the place directly behind the outer gate of the keep, so people who visit the keep ride there with their horses and carriages. All those delicate flowers and fountains would unfortunately get trampled in a courtyard.

But nothing prevents the keep from getting a garden of it's own, maybe in the back or somewhere like that. Someone can even build the aforementioned hedge maze!

Hey, I'm not a castle expert!

I still have a few more things to add to it, but I think Ill keep the flowers and such, and if we want to just consider it a garden, that's fine with me. But I don't think it really has to be 100% accurate, it is LEGO after all. :classic:

Dennimator, I'll post close-up and white background pics of everything once it's all finished, but here's one of the fountain for you.

Hi all,

I like Sandy's idea about the ground being a lot more used by horses, cattle etc, so muddy paths could be expected. The Garden itself would have to be a fenched off area to keep the traffic from stomping all the beautiful flowers.

Erd, you don't have to raise any of the ground up, its merely to make the garden appear more landscaped than beaten tracks that are around it I guess.

I wasn't talking about accuracity, I just thought about functionality. Courtyard is an area where people can access the castle, so putting flowers and benches there wouldn't be a very smart idea.

But I'm sure you had something like the garden of Versailles in mind, where the entire area is covered with flowers and benches like in your MOC. Sure, it's not very "medieval", but it still fits the keep in my opinion.

Should I build a fence around the courtyard/garden or whatever it is then?

I think I want to somehow incorporate it in to the castle. I like the idea of having a separate area with a garden and hedge maze or something.

Hi guys, just wanted to give a quick update. I've finished (or almost finished) 3 modules. The Tax Collector, something I'm calling the Elf Archer Barracks (not too sure yet), and a more conventional Brothel with alleyway. I'm just waiting on some more parts that I've ordered and then all I need to do is take some pictures.

3 modules?! What a treat! Just when I thought people had lost interest, Josh does a brothel, Erdbeereis posts a courtyard, and you tell us you have 3 new modules.

The Elf Archer Barracks sounds interesting...I'm sure we'll be able to find a place for it :classic:

Can't wait to see the finished products!

So are you making it as 50 Courtyard, or other castle grounds between the keep and main walls?

If its outside the keep you can make it on a few baseplates, fences maze etc. If its the courtyard, perhaps make it more organised and formal with defined gardens and angle etc like you already have. :classic:

Sounds good, can you post them into the Beta Thread as you are now part of that team, Cheers

Pardon me for asking, but what exactly is a "50 courtyard?"

Anyway, I think I'll build a garden that is outside of the castle, because I think that it leaves a little more room to be creative, and a beautiful garden rather than muddy tracks is more what I had in mind. Like I said before, I'm not much of a castle expert.

If I do build an outer garden, where would it rest in the general layout of the castle, and how big should it be? Lastly, if I do the garden, can i kepp what I already have built and just add some things?

Thanks for listening to my endless questions! :sweet:

I finished my Tapestry Weaver, head on over to the Alpha thread to see more pictures. There's even a little story to follow! :classic:

I don't see any reason that the courtyard can't be a beautiful garden. I mean, people can leave their dirty wagons outside the keep in the walled city and just walk in.

What I would say is the garden's a fine courtyard. If someone else wants to try to do a more historical courtyard, that's fine too. As with all of the other modules, we can just have a vote at the end and let the community decide which should be the courtyard. If yours loses, I'm sure we can find somewhere else in the castle to put it! :classic:

Should I just leave at that size then, or should I enlarge it?

I have an idea, I'll have what I've already built stay that size and I'll add a few more things to it, and then I can build one or two things on smaller baseplates like a hedge maze, and if we decide to make it an outer garden, I can add those to my already existing build. How does that sound?

I think it would be fine to have a slightly unrealistic courtyard, as most of the modules so far have a lot of themed elements to them which I love, but aren't super-accurate.

50 is the number on the floorplan that corresponds to courtyard, perhaps you should recall that as you are down on the list as building that module

Im happy either way the inspiration takes you, sorry I couldn't steer you in a direction you wanted, its just all the ideas sound cool. mmmmmm hedge maze, sweet!

Im off to check out 'mums' entry.

The tapestry maker is a really great module, I think we should invite Thrash's whole family to the build!

Ha, everyone should be home for Christmas. I might be able to convince my older brother to build a module. He used to build stuff and he was pretty good, the difficult part would be getting him to join.

I might be able to tempt him with some Christmas cookies though...

This looks really great, good work so far! Can I still participate in this? If I understand it correctly: the meaning of this that the participating members make the different modules of the castle. That sounds great and I love to help with this, but after I've made pictures of a module, can I break it for parts for other MOC's? Or does the building have to stay built?

And what's the purpose of the two teams? Are they making the same castle modules, but offcourse by other members?

That are a lot of questions, I hope somebody can explain it, thanks.

Yup, you can still participate! You're correct, the participating members do make the modules.

Once you've made a module, you just need to take enough pictures of it so that someone could pretty easily recreate it. It may require you to take one or two pictures while taking it apart if you used some interesting building techniques, but it shouldn't be too much extra work. I'm not sure what's going to happen with this when it's all done, but it's likely that the only way these things will all get together is if a few members living relatively close by have enough bricks to rebuild all of the modules. Then they could take them to a lego convention or something.

I won't go into the entire debate about the two teams, but as it stands right now they are just used as two different threads to show off your modules for the build. Once you say you want to join, I Scream Clone will put you on one of the teams and then that's the thread that you post your modules in.

Hope that helps!

By the way, it's great to have you join the build. I just looked at your PtV entries and they're excellent. Can't wait to see what you build for the EBCCB!

Thanks Thrash, I fully understand it now. And now I'm pretty sure I'll enter with this so, sign me up please I Scream Clone. I would love to start with the Apothecary, and perhaps the Tax Collector.

And thanks for the comment on my PTV-entries, Thrash.

Welcome aboard Matn! Nice to see another accomplished builder contribute to our project.

Could you please post your pics in the Team Alpha Thread. If you cant see the topic, there are links to both in the first post.

The two team format was a decision made a long time ago, when the project was relatively small. It gives a more manageable approach to wading through all the creations, allows a bit of team pride, and keeps the topics on the first few pages, as well as the pinned discussion page, to allow new recruits like yourself to see that its constantly having new contributions etc.

Thanks Thrash for the updated links/list btw, most impressive.

I have gotten to work on my Barracks as I have finished my Tapestry entry thumb.jpg

Im off! :classic:
